  1. I am currently doing a project on promotional products, ie branded products that businesses give away for free, things like that, and I started thinking of business cards, why cant the business card be considered more of a product as opposed to something we take, put in our pocket and then lose/ throw away/ file away and never remember or see again? Imagine a thin plastic or metal business card, say for a British airways executive, where the bottom half of the business card, underneath all the vital details, is a sprue toy airplane, ( a sprue is one of those toy sets where you break parts off of flimsy frames to then assemble them together). So the person who received thi…

  3. Hey guys, new to designing currently been learning about what to use and I found a free design programme called Inkscape. Is this any good it seems ok and I have been studying tutorials but my main question is how do I convert them to Vectors. The reason I am asking is because I want to enter design competitions for now to build up my experience. Anything you can tell me will go very far! Jamie

  4. Right as you may have seen my previous post about inkscape, I have decided to give photoshop a go. Has anyone got any tutorials that can help me learn the very basics? I am using this to design logos for a moment. Is this still good? Jamie

  5. Hi, I'm working with a square logo (dark blue background with white text and an under strip of white background with blue text) and need to fit this onto a rectangular copy space which is 600px wide by 150 / 200 high. I'm struggling to fit this into the header space in an effective yet attractive way. Any thoughts?

Hey guys and gals, I created these forum banners for a very popular forum over a year ago that was eventually shut down. I still have the PSD's and PNG's etc. from this project. I loved being creative on Photoshop CS4 where these were done, but have since upgraded to Photoshop CS5. Here is the original banner that I had to work from: Here is my rendition of above Banner: Here is the Megauploadforum.net Christmas Banner that I created in November 2011: What do you think? Hello, For a project in Ruby on Rails I need to make a custom cms. Now it looks like a good idea to use a dock instead of a normal menu. Now I wonder where I can find a icon set which contains something like images, articles and categories, edit new and delete. Does anyone know a good iconset ? I did google but did not find it. Regards, Roelof

Hi, i'm working on a web project (as project manager), and as it's a new concept we need to clearly and effectively describe the process to the user, in say three steps, which we'll have on the homepage right at the top. Visually, they only need to be really simple (stickman type diagrams) but the concept has be clever such that it describes what's going on to the user without them having to read anything (although text will go underneath the images). How do i go about finding someone who can do this? Does this have a specific job title? How much can you expect to pay? Thanks in advance!

Hello fellow designers, this is my first post here and hopefully not my last. Anyway I am currently working on a logo for someone, I have designed logos in the past but there is a slight problem I cannot get my head around. The client has asked for the 2 Chinese symbols which are basically Chinese words to look more westernized. Now how does on do that? The logo itself needs to be clean, simplistic and to look like it is endorsing an expensive product, so I guess the client thinks anything Chinese automatically makes it appear cheap. There is a word in English as well as these 2 symbols and I think I am heading down a decent enough route, but I would like to hear of s…

Making a logo to put as the title of my website (at the top) and need some suggestions. What ways could I go about making it that incorporate: Name (Iron Hammer Gaming, could also add A Multi Gaming Community in there) A Hammer symbol Not so plain text and that goes along with this background(remember it will have to be at the top of that background as well): Thanks!

Hello, bit of a different logo type for me to create so was quite challenging. A barber shop was looking to change their look and try to look more classy so the task was to move from bauhaus . Here is the final decided product, i don't like the white backing on the BB part but its what the client wanted... Have just finished creating the wall art of this logo ready to fit tomorrow (will update with pictures): Craig.

  21. Hello all, I am doing a favour for a friend of mine who owns a local dance school and am building her a website. I'm still in the very early design stages and was wondering whether anyone could help me out with the logo? I have the original logo that she has used on posters etc. before, but this is rather small and pixelated so isn't very suitable for the website. I have tried to trace the image and turn it into a vector so that I can edit it and make it larger, but haven't had much success with this... I have also tried to use online vector converters, but they make the edges of the cursive letters square-ish. My question is, would anybody be able to spare th…

Hello everybody, Thanks for looking at my topic, I really appreciate it, thanks. I saw a logo of a guy and I found it cool. Here is a SS: As you can see there is a line in the middle of the text. I was wondering how to make that line. Can anyone please explain to me how to make this? Best regards. BTW: I tried to Google this but I didn't knew how to explain this in a good sentence.

Hey, a family friend has just finished building a bar in his house... They wanted some signs done for them so asked me about sorting it for them. Bar name is: Lemon's Bar. Thoughts? P.S The gradients etc are just for presentation to client, i will be creating the signs in vinyl so they will actually just be 1 or 2 colours. Not gradients.

A while back I had a client who asked for a login form where the user could choose "admin", "user", "guest", or "custom" from a thumb panel. He later changed his mind to have a different kind of look and so this was never finished. It's Friday and I'm bored so I decided to try and design it (and perhaps implement it and add JQuery animation magic). Here's what I have so far though it's a work in progress (I haven't gotten to color yet, I'm still moving stuff around, and I'll probably design icons instead of using my ugly mugshot that I use for everything). Any suggestions are welcome. I'm not quite sold on "Amaranth" as the font for the username and I think spac…

  32. Hi, I've always been a web designer and now I'm wanting to turn my company also for print works (packages, folders, flyers, magazines, anything that is print). I would like to ask if using Photoshop (using pixels, not ps vetorial tools) is acceptable for doing such kind of works? I know that Illustrator might be much better, and Photoshop isn't even intended for web design, but my point is that I'm with no time now to learn how to use other softwares, and I want to ask then if I can be in the market using Photoshop for print work, or if the clients will think I'm a swindler? I believe Logotypes can't be made in pixels, right? But print work, that have a specif…

  49. Earlier today I found myself researching web designers and companies around the area where I live. It was a bit surprising to find that our leading web developers had websites that looked as though they were made 10 years ago. Discovering this gave enough motivation to make an attempt at freelancing... which is what leads to this thread. A while ago I designed a logo for myself and I'm asking for feedback on it. It's nothing jaw dropping, but I wanted something simple and professional looking. Any suggestions or criticisms are welcome (especially since I don't consider myself to be a great logo / brand identity designer. Attached is the logo. Thanks in advance.
