Not sure about everyone else but most us design our sites on paper/photoshop well before we kind of get into the code.. Drawings/design/artwork comes first almost like the blueprints, then we grab the code and convert it into a living breathing site. So it's quite possible you've nailed the technologies to a decent level e.g HTML/CSS but next step is to start coming up with ideas, sketching and basically drawing your sites. Ultimately the technology is all scaffolding

I normally go for VB but as above it's pretty spammy since it's the most popular of the paid forum scripts. IPB is clean and simple to use, I like them a lot.. If I was you would probably go for IPB....

Hi John, I actually prefer the original one, the colors are brighter and sharper in the newer versions but the overall images don't seem to blend well.. The second one is better than the Xmas one.. I think you're getting there, use of colors are decent but just maybe try to blend the background elements a little more. do you make use of adjustment layers like curves, levels, hue, saturation... those are good things to experiment with to really help make the imagery pop... Overall nice job!

Based on your experience and what you're saying, doesn't sound like you should be charging people anything at all... No point thinking about charging money if you don't have much of a portfolio.... this industry works like this... 1. ) Do some cool work items (mostly personal to begin with) 2.) Share on places like deviantart, various galleries etc 3.) People automatically start coming to you for requests 4.) Charge them whatever you want... I personally charge around £40 per hour, but most people prefer fixed projects and these can range from anything from £1000-£10,000. But your prices are only as good as what people are willing to pay...

In the end you can build most types of sites with most types backends. It's all down to whatever you're comfortable with and what you can afford at the time. Wordpress, Joomla and the rest of the non bespoke options you might find are a good start for the beginner and I recommend them highly, just don't expect to build something truly amazing. Good luck!

I think what Andy's saying is pretty true,,, it happened to all of us at one time.. In the end you have to start learning the hard way without the funky code builders and the shortcuts... (they're not really shortcusts of course, just quick and cheap work arounds). If I was to recommend one thing it would be to get really good at HTML5/CSS3. It's the way forward... We develop mobile apps, but HTML5/CSS3 and the various assigned Javascript libs will in the future take over... Learning those is a Banker! P.S Glad you're taking this in your stride, it's good to get the wind knocked out sometimes, happens to me every few months lol..

I think what everyone is trying to tell you is that your whole approach to building sites is wrong.. You're never going to build reliable stable, modern solutions using the methodologies and techniques you're using... In all honesty go back to the drawing board, do some reading and re-think the solution... Read up properly on HTML5, CSS3 and good coding pracitices.. Wish you the best of luck. P.S If you're using IE and they're png files then older versions are notorious for rendering them really poorly.....

Which version of IE are you on and I'd leave those pesky polyfills behind....

Seriously if you're new to OO then get a book and learn the basic concepts behind it... It won't take long the theory will ground in you in how you should be developing and why it can lead to better code.. Once you've read the book then come back and ask specific questions.... You won't learn OO from just messing around with PHP Beyond learning about OO principles you then have the massive world of design patterns and all that lovley stuff...
