I work at a small agency and honestly we are too busy right now. Its also staggering how many other 'agencies' simply outsource the work or cannot even complete simple WordPress builds etc. If you are good enough, you will not struggle for work or to get a job. The industry is becoming more complex which the requirements are higher.

My 2013 Macbook Pro can barely handle the animations and it heats up like crazy. Who knows what it does on a standard consumers computer.

If you are applying for jobs show us your Portfolio. Can't show a portfolio you will STRUGGLE to land even a junior role.

One of the best pieces of advice I can give any junior dev's is to really remember what your role (normally) is. You are there to learn and progress your skills, but you are also there to make the people above you jobs easier and allow them to focus on what they need to. Offering to pick up any emails, ask if they need anything doing to help them through out the day, re structure some CSS for them or whatever. In a junior dev role you normally get lumped with some not so fun tasks and projects but you just have to show your commitment.

The reason your probably feeling so overwhelmed and struggle to keep focussed is because your trying to learn everything possible in the space of a few months! Your talking about node, PHP, SQL, html + css, angular and whatever else. You don't need to know everything to make some amazing stuff. HTML + CSS will get you very far if you can get good, practice and show examples. I have been doing dev for at least 5 years, 2 of them in an agency 3 just learning on the side. My focus's are php, html and css. Yes, over the years I have learnt more in terms of moving to Laravel, SASS etc but I haven't looked at a Node tutorial in my life. I can write Javascript okay but you know what, a lot of my projects include jQuery and I hardly delve deep into Angular etc (some Ionic work is an exception). I have been working at an agency for 2 years making some excellent things and Im not the best of the best who knows everything with a Uni degree and qualifications. Just something to remember.

The amount of personal and side projects I have got to the 95% point is unreal... That last 5% is killer.

Comes down to experience and practice. Each application you build teaches you new ways of building and thinking. Can't say I have ever watched a talk or read books on how to think, just simply made lots of things. CSS is fairly straight forward, especially if your using Bourbon / Compass to do the browser presets etc for you. However SASS is a different kettle (or the others) and when people say they know SASS but think its just being able to nest...

When did I say about being a master in either? You said you know the basics, which is what I am saying would be expected of any developer. Also, senior NodeJS devs could look at PHP and understand the basics of what is / they understand how languages work. Im more than understanding there is other backend languages... however if you knew NoSQL and Postgre I would image at some point in your learning you have stumbled across SQL at least slightly. Back on topic.

All kinds of skills such as PHP and SQL... They are the minimum I would expect anyone getting a job in development to have. Let alone a 'nerd'. Jesus.

Hey, Been using the latest magic mouse for the past 6 months and its great. Apart from the fact the last few weeks my hand has become incredibly painful. Mainly my thumb and wrist. Any suggestions on a nice ergonomic mouse? I have small hands, using my MacBook keyboard and trackpad is fine but not very efficient when using a 24" monitor as well.

I never once watched any videos or went to any 'code schools' when I was learning at the start. I literally had an idea for a website and started building it. When faced with something I didn't know, I then looked that up and learnt it. I was given a TreeHouse account login by my employer to learn Swift. Spent 10 of so hours going through the videos and hardly learnt anything. Today I have just decided to jump in and start building an app. Have learn more in a few hours than I would have done in a long time watching videos.

I have been so used to the Dell im using, I find that monitors are a minefield and they seem to use model numbers over easy to know names etc.
