I'd like to draw graphics in a similar vein to what I'm sure most people have seen here on Rob's amazing Rawkes website. I'd like to create underwater-themed graphics for a site I'm working on using the same smooth cheerful sort of style. However, my graphics skills are not that amazing. Are there any particular things I could do to improve my own skills, or any tools/software you would recommend to help? I will also need to look for tutorials, but its very difficult when the question you are asking yourself is "how do I draw pictures"? All advice greatly appreciated

I'm just curious as to whether or not it's "safe" yet to use PNGs in websites, i'm aware that IE6 has a problem rendering transparencies in PNGs. Does anyone know the percentage of the web browsing population that uses IE6 or of any other browsers that throw up problems? I only ask because the alpha channel stuff in PNGs is far superior to GIF transparency.

I am having trouble with optimising images through photoshop. I use "Save for Web and Devices" and no matter how I configure the settings and which file type I use, I can't seem to stop my images losing a lot of their color. Could I please get some suggestions on how I could optimize my images differently, or what I am doing wrong?

Hi All, I am working on my first website which is for my business. The software I'm using is Dreamweaver MX2004 and for graphics I have Fireworks CS3. The situation so far I have created a logo in Fireworks along with a page that has a menu along the top with a drop down menu with all the right colours and rollovers. I can upload sites to my host server as I have tested this and I have created simple pages with links and buttons which all work OK. The Problem I need to be able to get my page from Fireworks into Dreamweaver so i can use it as a template for the site. I have imported it as a background image but I can not seem to place editab…

hey all, i am having a few issues getting to grips with photoshop - dreamweaver - css/div technique all my previous experience has either been straight (fairly basic I'll be honest) html code or simply slice and 'save to web' from photoshop and then load into dreamweaver... i have been playing around with creating divs and using css in dreamweaver - thanks to various tutorials, mainly this one - so, i can do the basics of html/div/css page layout - and then build the images to go inside each div - fairly simple stuff - but feel that I am missing something... maybe I am being really stoopid and just not 'getting it' but - as an example - on this site here - I…

Hi there, I do some basic web design (more of a print designer) and usually I design my flat design in illustrator, slice it up and import the images into Dreamweaver in a table format. Usually I leave the cell in the middle of the table free for text. However, I am doing a design, laid out in Illustrator and the background is not a solid colour so I just want to convert the whole file straight into a format that will recognise the text as html in Dreamweaver. Can I do this? Can anyone point me in the direction of some tutorials or a good book? I have searched loads and I can't seem to find anything of great help! Thanks in advance to anyone who can …

  13. It's not web-related, I know, but I'm hoping someone can help... First, you have to understand that if someone asks if I can do such and such, I always say 'Yes'. Then I Google for it... Well, this time I've gone and done it. I'm in over my head, and really need help with a business card that I've put together in Adobe Illustrator. The printers keep returning my pdf because it's not showing crop and bleed marks. Now, I know how to do that - you just put ticks in the right boxes in Acrobat. But my file shows neither, and I'm tearing my hair out going through all the settings to see what's amiss. I've attached two files - what the printers want (printe…

What's your choice between Fireworks and Photoshop? I personally choose Photoshop. I use it all the time. I been using for over 3 years. I can't see my self changing and going to Fireworks. Some people have been telling that Fireworks is pretty good, but I fail to listen to to them. So whats your choice?

Hi I'm trying to get to grips with designing my own images and am making steady progress - most of this is thanks to all of you on this site. My current problem is that I am trying to design my site selling kitchens. I have a number of kitchen pictures but not pictures for the whole range - ie not all pictures for colours and styles available. What I've been trying to do for the last couple of days (and failed miserably) is to change the colours of the kitchens by outlining my kitchens using the lasso tool and then modifying the hue/saturation. However this isn't working and I was wondering if one of you experts out there could help me out please? I know it can…

Having trouble finding the right colour scheme for your project? Look no further than Adobe Labs http://kuler.adobe.com/ This little gem allows you to choose from hundreds of user created colour schemes and give a rating to them. Not only that you can create your own colour schemes for the world to see or just for yourself. The colour wheel is amazing you can select different colour rules like Analogous, Complementary, Monochromatic etc - It's a very useful tool. Also, once you have found the scheme you want you can download it as a palette directly into Photoshop CS2 and work from it. Fantastic! Please check it out, it's by far the best colour schem…

It's been brought to my attention that my company will be buying me Flash along with anything else I need to build interactive software. At this point, they are also trying to save money, so should I tell them to get just flash and photoshop? Or should I just tell them to get the studio and use fireworks.
