Hi Not strictly a graphic design question but I'm hoping to get luck and there some InDesign guru lurking around. Basically we have exported our 68 page A5 booklet to the printers, they have ok'd it, but once its actually got to print stage there's a problem. We have 16 colour pages and the rest are black and grey, but all the exported pages on the PDF are CMKY when only the colour pages can be on 4 plates the others need to be on just the 1? How can I get the mono pages to export in such a way, or create them in wuch a way that it will allow 4 plates for the colours (images pages) and only 1 plate for the text pages? Regards Ashley --…

Not sure what the issue is here, but having major problems when copying and pasting in Photoshop and Illustrator. If I copy from one document to another I lose color, it appears all washed out (see below image). However, if I copy to the same document, it is fine. That, to me, says a color setting somewhere, but as far as I can tell both documents are the same?? Ideas anybody?

Hi All, How are you? I have been busy creating a PSD template for an up and coming social network and because I'm not a great designer, I'd love to hear your opinion and feedback on it. I am really interested on making it more professional and bringing it to "the next level". Any feedback, opinions, criticism however good or bad would be highly appreciated. Hey, so i have a small business called Vinyl Penguin. I sell vinyl graphics, design services etc. Im trying to get a fresh new look for my branding but am struggling. My type for the logo is fine and im happy with it but i need something else. Seeing as i sell vinyl stickers, i wanted to go around slapping little stickers everywhere. Not with my business name, but like a little picture that people know as Vinyl Penguin. Im just after a simple penguin design that i can use to plaster around. This sounds simple, but getting something im happy with is hard. I have pages full of designs of penguins and im losing my tether! Doesnt have to be a 100% peng…

Hello, I hope I am in the right forum. I am starting up a website and have trouble finding the right background. I have went through thousands of backgrounds that dont fit. The big prolem is that plain colours make the theme look extremely dull. There needs to be some object or extra colour to make it look fresh. My website runs on the template: http://themeforest.net/item/next-responsive-wp-magazine/full_screen_preview/2459941 I use the SKIN with the dark blue header with the white post page(blue-lower right corner) BTW: I was inspired by this websites background: http://iheardin.com/ (wich uses the same theme) because it looks fresh and …

Hi All, I'm doing some branding for my Father-In-Laws business as the doesn't advertise and has some poor business cards. Once thing I have outstanding to do is design a Logo for his business so we can get some printing done for his car. The business is called J & S Plastering and as you can guess from the name, he's a plasterer. I'm not looking for a freebie logo or anything, just simply some ideas/inspiration. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I started as a programmer several years ago, and then began working as a PHP Web Developer. In the past year, I've tried to learn front-end web design. I thought Photoshop was the right way to go initially. I am by no means a Photoshop expert, but I am fairly well versed in many of it's primary features. Now, I'd really like to learn Illustrator as well. Generally when learning, I really prefer a series video tutorial to introduce myself to learning features or technique in any technical aspect. Usually, if those are not sufficient, I then look for articles online to fill in the blanks. However, my initial search for a series of video tutorials to learn Illustra…

Hi, i was wondering if anyone would be good enough to create a logo for me. It is for a charity called Woodlands Animal Sanctuary based in Holmeswood, Lancashire, i am i ideally looking for someone to create this for me as a big favor. The website for this one is a template that has already been created, i am simply going to edit it for the Animal Sanctuary needs as i am doing all the editing as a favor for them too. Their current website is www.animalsanctuary.org.uk. The attached image shows an idea of what the new website will look like, so the logo basically needs to fit it with that design. If it helps, the sanctuary deals with cats mainly, small birds,…

Hi there, Please can someone help me. I have recently purchased a logo pack from Vistaprint and am trying to use it to build a website. They have sent me 3 images 200x200 pixels in jpg form and 3 images in pdf form. (I have managed to change these myself into png and bitmap files.) I am trying to change the images to transparent logos in order to put them on my new site. Currently, they all have a block white background Does any have any helpful hints on free software or programs which will allow me to do this? Many thanks.

This sounds like a simple photoshop effect but it's not. What I need to be able to do is take a picture of some retail space and then make them look like they have been hand drawn in colour. The examples I have been sent look like they have been drawn with coloured pencils and it's not just outlines but fills as well. Now I have been outsourced to do this work and the company mentioned sketchup. I know this is a google product but never used it. Is there a way to do this via photoshop? Or is sketch up or another program my best bet? Will upload an example later once home. Craig

New to these forums, but I'll post an introduction later. Anyway, I'm simply looking for constructive criticism concerning a personal logo I recently designed (attached below). It is in fact my first official logo design so be gentle It's pretty plain for now. As you can probably tell, the logo has the form of a butterfly. However, unlike the left wing, the right wing is formed out of two "P"s (for the initials of my name. Actually, there is a deeper meaning behind the form of the logo, but I don't feel like boring everyone with the explanation. I tried experimenting with it a bit (for example, making the image symmetrical), though I personally prefer how it …

Hi, I do voluntary web design work, and I've just been asked to improve a website for a charity - shivia.com. One issue I'm currently tackling is the main banner (brown map of the world) - they want to replace the text that is overlaid on this (i.e. "Shivia Microfinance Charity welcomes you ..... etc"). I have asked them to get hold of the original artwork, but the upshot is that it is no longer available. So the option is to either edit it in Photoshop, or commission a totally new banner. But my question is: Is it possible to edit this with a professional result? I had a quick go for 10 minutes but to be honest the result was awful. Is anyone aware of a strai…

I am trying to figure out where to start making a widget for a project website. The idea is to have it similar to the ford.com site ( http://bp3.ford.com/2013-Ford-Mustang?branding=1&lang=en#/Exterior/Config[|Ford|Mustang|2013|1|1.|400A.P8F.....~YZKAA.443.GT.CON.PRE.] ) I want an image to be set in a specific location and have some color options around it so when you hover or click the color, the image will change to that. Places for me to reference would be amazing and any other help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help on this topic. (hope I put this topic in the right place!) Fitzs83

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right forum but of the ones available it seemed to make the most sense. I'm working on a project for a large (A0) poster which I've been designing in Photoshop. The file contains the layout of the poster but no text, which I was planning on doing in InDesign. I'm not sure if that's the correct method, so any any advice would be welcome on that point, too. I've saved the file from Photoshop as an un-layered TIFF with LZW lossless compression. When 'Placing' the TIFF onto the paste board in InDesign, the image looks very low quality. Thinking perhaps the compression was not lossless after all, I opened the file in Photoshop. However, …

Hi guys, I've been running an entertainment site for the last four months (critics unknown), it's been going quite well so I've decided to give my basic logo a change. But that's we're it stops; trying to come up with a striking but professional logo is harder than I thought. I have tried playing on the word critics and unknown, tried a variation of fonts, colours you name it but still nothing. My question is to you professionals out there, we're would you start, can you come up with any quick examples or just any pointers for a novice graphic designer such as myself. Thanks in advance, will appreciate any advice. Jack www.criticsunknown.com

Hi, what's the best way to get into graphic designing for a living? Should I go on courses? Online courses? What is the most common program used? I'm guessing Adobe Photoshop, what is the latest version of Photoshop? Basically, I'm a 27 year old lad and I'm desperate for a career change. Iv always been good on computers and I want a job involved with I.T. Graphic designing is something I think I would really enjoy, I used to make graphics when I was younger in my own time out of boredom using Photoshop 6, I got pretty good using that just from teaching myself. Obviously that was years ago and I just need some advice on where to start, Iv just started a Ci…

Hi everyone. This is my first post here in the graphic section, so I hope you can help. I have designed a 24 page brochure in InDesign CS5, designed for print. The brochure is heavily image based, as it is advertising a show. When I export, the brochure is 37MB. I can send the file via Dropbox to the printers, however I was concerned with this file size, as I have seen other large documents at much, much smaller sizes. My PDF export settings are set to 300 dpi for the images, as I need 300 dpi for print. Is this correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
