Background image + shape + text - how do i remove text to show background through shape?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

this has been bugging me for about an hour now, can't seem to find any tutorials to explain how to do this.

Basically i want to have hollow text through the rectangle shape to show the background image behind it

hope that makes sense :)

Using which software?

EDIT: Just seen tags.

So, go to your text tool and on the layer you want the text to be 'see through' on, hold down the text button and choose horizontal type mask tool. Then all you have to do is push delete.

Another way to do this in Photoshop, try this.

1.) Make sure your background layer is at the bottom.

2.) Put your text layer above, then control click it in the layers panel (this should make a selection).

3.) Select the background image layer

4.) Hit Delete , this should punch a hole into your background image

You can then save this image and use it how you like in your website or whatever... Anything below it will be visible through the punched hole.
