What are the best ways to approach the branding side of a new website?

Just wanted to say I am only half way through this book Ignore Everybody and 39 other keys to creativity by Hugh Macleod. I must say it's a really good book, very insightful and has brought to my attention something I had never considered before, Creativity! Well obviously we all know what it means but have any of use really quantified it? I really like this book so far and I would definitely suggest you give it a read. One of his points is that creativity brings responsibility and often people will be resistant to your ideas or concepts because they fear change feel threatened by you or cannot see an idea the way to do, no matter how hard you try to explain it. Hi guys, I thought I'd get a head start on this problem at the weekend before I go to work on Monday. It’s a new job and I'd rather not ask my manager yet. Seem to be scratching my head about a poster I am creating at work, I don’t really get the dimensions. It had been a long day on Friday and I thought maybe my brain was not working as usual! But having a fresh look at it and after drafting up the dimensions in Photoshop, it still does not make any sense to me. I know I seem to be missing something here! Hi all. I've recently joined the forum as I'm looking to become a web/logo designer and create videos. I would be interested to find out some info from you guys who can relate to this or even if you don't, I'd still really appreciate some feedback. My biggest concern is logo design. I'm not an artist in that I'm not great at drawing really precise drawings. Design software allows you to bring your ideas to life and I feel I can create eye catching logo given the right software, as I feel I understand what is required when designing a memorable logo. I've had my new Sony Vaio since Christmas and it's quite annoying. When I'm using my Bamboo graphics tablet in Photoshop and want to either zoom in or use the bottom click to move across an image, the action has a massive lag and isn't smooth and precise, like it was on my old budget laptop from 2005. It's so poor that I don't even use the tablet for zooming in any more - I just use the zoom keystrokes on the keyboard (which take longer and shouldn't have to do). What can I do to have the graphics tablet working as it should and might it be the Win7 OS that is causing this?

This is my second website so I am still a newbie to web building. www.inthepouch.com The footer colour (curve) does not match the content div. Although when I look at the file in both Dreamweaver and Photoshop the colour blends perfectly. I have used the same colour codes in both applications. However once site is viewed in Safari, Firefox and Explorer there is a noticeable difference. Can anyone explain this, please Cheers

Hi Guys, I need to resize a barcode, so you can imagine it needs to be proportionate, pressing down the shift key doesn’t seem to do anything and rescale it through the object>transform works but the barcode ends up as a black blob as opposed to individual lines, any ideas how to do this? Hi, I am coming to the stage of where i need to design a logo for my site (which isn't live yet before people ask). My site is split in 3 so i am going to need 3 diff logo's but to keep them the same. Hi have this logo that i want to put a stroke around. Im good with photoshop and on tere the effect i want can be done by either giving the text a stroke or a zero distance drop shadow or outer glow... So could someone tell me how i do this on adobe illustrator as i cant seem to find helpful tutorials either?

I have made a logo of a website am gonna startr soon enough. I have pretty much made it up, with pen tool and stuff. But the problem is that bit is all black and white. I am looking to colour the face of the guy, and add some colour to the text and make the supposedly horns adjacent to text red or atleast understandable that its horns. I need some tips on coloring it And how to do some expressive colouring.

the last few days ive been starting to use photoshop and doing some photoshop tutorials and learning some new skills i want to create a logo for my music site, and here is my first attempt Im not sure what the whole design process is but my website is about music so the vinyl and tonearm forming the first letter 'b' is pretty self explanatory but the rest of the design i guess its meant to mimic the cardboard sleeves that hold vinyl in and i try to make the rest of the text look like it was stamped on what do you think? any feedback will be much appreciated see the full size here -

Hello I have a gif image. Half of this image is blank and I would like that this part were transparent. However, another part of the image has colors with some white in between. What can I do in fireworks cs4 to make transparent just the first part of the image which completely blank but not the white colors which might exist in the other part of the image? Thanks

Maybe a simple answer but im doing a wedding website and the client has asked for a beige pattern background to be on the website. How would i go about creating a wallpaper pattern look her site? I know the css etc to set it to repeat the background. But just wondering how to go about creating a custom pattern and having the pattern colour a creamy/sliver and the background of the pattern beige? Thanks

I really don't know the correct term for this effect. I'm talking about the faded colours in the background creating some sort of blurred lighting effect. any input would be appreciated. Cheers

I'm looking for a way to achieve this "squares" effect. I'm probably correct in thinking that I can use photoahop to do this, though I have absolutely no idea how to go about it. The first image shows the effects I'd like to apply to the second image. I'd like for the left hand side of the building (or part of it) to have the squares effect blending into the solid photograph to the right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no problem opening camera raw at the start, only mid-way through. I can't open it back up after I have closed it the first time. (I've been blissfully unaware that was even possible for a while now.) On my Google travels trying to solve this, I came across this which explains my problem http://photo.tutsplus.com/tutorials/post-processing/bring-a-photograph-to-life-using-levels-with-zones/ On step 9 there, double clicking for me brings up Layer Style, not what this guy describes. Other tutorials too describe it as double clicking. So where have I gone wrong here? Cheers.

How do I make the top left and right corners of a rectangle rounded in Adobe Illustrator CS5? I'm trying to add a black overlay on to a shape in Illustrator, so I can use it to show text, this is what I have so far. But I just need those bottom corners unrounded. So how can I only make specific corners rounded?

Hi, I thought this was best place to ask, in Photoshop my mouse scroller has all of a sudden started scrolling horizontally it's very frustrating. Does anyone know how to switch this back? I'm using CS4 by the way. Thanks, Josh

Hi guys, im new to web design, but ive got the basics of HTML. There is one big thing i dont understand... This is a tutourial one of the forum members directed me too : Web design tutourial I have seen tutourials that do exactly the same thing and i dont understand it, if you scroll down ont he tutourial you will notice there is a section where it says "Get in touch" and below it are boxes in which people will be able to click in. But surely if your making it in Photoshop, then when you export it it will just be an image? SO you wont be able to click in it and write... So I'm doing this tutorial and when it comes to this part "In your canvas, marquee select your header size which will be filled with a gradient effect. Height of 60px and width of 800px." I'm confused as what to do. I understand everything in that except what a header is in this context. I know what a header is in terms of a web page but not for this. Hi everyone I wondered if anyone with good Photoshop skills might want to help me out by designing a button for something I'm working on? I'm after a circular button which is this colour #7D1F17 and shiny. On the button I want the words "Rhyn Park blog" in Gill Sans, colour #FFFFFF, angled upwards from left to right Next to the button I want the three words News, Events, Jobs, in Gill Sans, also #FFFFFF I'd like the words stacked one on top of another.
