  1. Please don't say anything like, "it looks better", "it's more stable than Windows", "it performs better than Windows", or "it has better programs". I'm interested in what programs found only in Macs are better than Windows' programs. Everywhere I look, people are recommending them but use the reasons stated above as their backup. Are there programs found only in MacBooks that are superior to Windows' programs? I understand some people may charge more (for printing services and the like) if any graphics are presented on a platform besides Macintosh, but is there any other solid reasoning?

ok heres my latest one for a client, would be nice to get some feedback on it before showing it to the client. Please bare in mind the content isnt exactly lined up 100% i tend to leave that for the coding side of it so im just looking for feedback on the actually design itself not the content and its alignment. Thanks in advance i might not make the banner carry on into the contents background and just make it simple semi-trans peach im also not sure on the footer i was fiddling about with it for a while but couldnt find a nice colour that fit (probably due to the main content background

Ok, so I've been working on a template for a venue in Hertfordshire, now before I get slicing and dicing, just thought ask for peoples thoughts on positioning, fonts, colour scheme, presentation etc. Now I know the actual content isnt 100% perfectly aligned within the boxes but it doesnt normally need to be when its all getting css'd into place. (bad practice i know but im not asking about my methods ;] ) Anyway just let me know what you think and what needs to be added/changed/removed Thanks, Carl

Hi I want to get some T shirts printed to promote my website. The URl will be printed on the back. The URL is quite long, 16 characters, so I have two options Option 1 www.My16letterdomain.co.uk (1 line, in a medium sized font) Option 2 www. My16letterdomain .co.uk (3 lines in a much bigger font) Option 2 would obviously be easier to read. My site is a shopping directory for a particular city and I shall be wearing the shirt around town. Readability is therefore very important. Please can you let me have your views and votes Option 1 or Option 2 Many thanks !

I need to display various graphs on my website and have designed them in PS (btw, there isn't a graph generator in ps is there?). The plan is to display a graph on the page that can be enlarged when clicked into lightbox. So I designed the graph at 864px x 504px then saved as a GIF as 40yrsboebr.gif - This image is the one that will be opened when clicked. I then went back and reduced the image size to 600px x 350px as a gif that would be displayed on the page. Have I done this in the right way? The smaller resized image doesn't look that crisp to me so should I have designed 2 graphs in different sizes to get the max sharpness for both images is is reducing the…

Hi guys! I'm in the starting process of coding a new website and I've already run into a problem. I have a background image which I've been working a bit on in Photoshop and now I've saved it and on my computer it looks fine. But as soon as I upload it it gets some strange lines through it. Especially noticable in the bottom of the picture. You can see it here: I've tried to save it with different variations of quality without any success. Hoping I can get some help. EDIT: Seems this problem only persists in Firefox 4 B1 so i guess that is the problem

How it works: The gimp user and photoshop user agree on a goal and they both complete it in their separate applications. Then they write a tutorial on how they did it and post it here. This should be handy for people on either side to get a handle on the other application if they ever need too. Right now its myself (Photoshop) versus Guezala (Gimp).

Hi, I, like many others, have not got a genuine copy of Photoshop. Its such an incredible piece of kit, and would be much more useful if I had a genuine copy. Thinking, as I'm a student, of getting this: Adobe Standard Collection Just had a few questions.. 1)Is there any difference, in terms of the functionality of the product, compared to the normal versions (This is an educational version) 2)Is there anywhere this is cheaper, for genuine kit ? 3)If I buy it, and say.. have to re-format my computer, is the license transferable if I need to re-install again ect..

It really can be frustrating as a graphic designer, everyone has an opinion and everybody thinks they are a graphic designer. It takes a lot of time and effort to develop a set of skills to be able to design and gauge an appropriate piece of visual communication, not everybody is capable of this however everybody has an opinion on the work you might create. I think one really valuable skill as a designer is managing clients and building a relationship to a point where they trust and respect your opinion. It would be really interesting to hear about some ways that people have managed this and of course to hear any horror stories people might have about this process.

Hey all, We mostly design websites with companies who already have branding in place. However, we now have a client who has asked us to develop a new brand/logo for the company. They just want the price for the logo, with all otehr design costs to follow at a later date (i.e. business cards, letterheads) What are the typical costs for this? As I don't want to appear too cheap or too expensive too. Any advice is appreciated.

Helox, my name is so important you should delete your own name from your memory in order to make room for mine! Today we will look at the Gimp! It's an open-source GNU program. (Yap, 'tis free) It's also... Rather powerful. If you want to see -exactly- what I mean google this phrase 'Gimp Gallery', you will be impressed with what this program can do. It's a little tricky, but so is photoshop, and considering the difference in expenditure... I am rather satisfied with my beautiful graphics program. Granted, it does lack a few things. It is image editing software so it lacks free-hand drawing functions like: Straight lines, boxes circles. There are ways to get arou…

There's been numerous accusations on this forum of 'stealing' work since I've joined. Most of which have been defended and accepted as mistake since we're all nice people here (say it with me). In about 5 minutes of browsing latest discussions here, I came across two sites both of which had a logo which I recognised as another, much larger, brand/company logo. I'm not talking about, 'that's quite similar' - I mean it's the actual logo with different text. I'm interested as to how far you can go with a logo before it's classed as an infringement of copyright material. Is there even a risk of this? Is it just going to damage your own image since people will notice this…

We have also considered using an arrow, but would like peoples opinions. I've attached an image showing the different between the two states. Here is a good tip for remembering colours when you’re designing a website for a client or for yourself. Trying to remember colours can be a bit daunting at times so I devised a way of remembering the colours you want to use when designing a website. I got the idea from a magazine actually… not literally, if you look at any magazine there is always a colour swatch somewhere at the back of the magazine down the side of the page. Well I was thinking of using the same technique when designing a web template in Photoshop. Create a Grope and call it Palette, then create a series of layouts. Name the layouts as the colours you’re using for the design, for example… #5381ac. …

Hay guys first draft, tell me what you think. I am probably not going with this now as I am starting to think the dark background isn't for me. perhaps light and crisp like slightly on cartridge paper with a creamy hue and use sepia tones for the tree (leonardo-esque)<= is this a word? You decide! Then that would go against the night tree idea? The typography is definitely being changed and 'Designs' is being switched with 'Development'. Please, please, please some good honest constructive criticism! Cheers.

Hi, In the process of a personal project at the moment, and am now working on the front-end. Just wanted to see what people thought ? It's supposed to be simple, and straight forward. The words: type, enter, relax -> Will each have an image-over popup which will in turn explain how to use the site.. even thought for many it would be self explanatory. This is only the top part of the page. Will be a bit more at the bottom, showing the most recent "emotional releases", and the copyright statement. This will be both vertically and horizontally centered in the browser. Thoughts ?
