Hi guys. I'm sure I'm missing something simple here. I've updated an old site with breakpoints to enable the site to work better at different resolutions. If I minimise my screen I can see them working. But they are not working for mobile devices. Any ideas? I'm using both, mobile just shows full width site. @media only screen and (max-width : 499px) ............ @media only screen and (max-width : 940px) and (min-width : 500px) Thanks.

I currently run 5 magento stores (all interlinked) on a dedicated server. Unless you get a good deal I would get the SSL separate, we got a SSL wildcard for about £60 this covers all our stores as they are sub domains.

I think there is a little confusion between what the general understanding of copyright is and what the OP's actual issue is. As already stated an artist/ designer retains copyright unless sold within the contract, now that means my client cannot sell on the website design say by making copies of it, be that code or graphics. But the website is theirs and it would have to be a pretty tight contract and a rather stupid client to end up in a situation where a client cannot update or make changes to the content.Unless you did the copy-writing then they'd likely own it anyway. I'd also expect that if I told a client they had to have my logo on their website I'd lose a lot of business from bigger clients, I think its quite cheeky to think it should. Normally designers come up with an extra deal to get the logo put on the site. Makes no difference how big the business/ artist/ website gets your paid to make a website at the end of the day.

I don't know one respected member of this forum who would suggest GoDaddy. I use Heart Internet because of their reseller options.

If I wanted someone to make a news letter I don't want to hear them say they are a standard HTML5/ CSS3 coder. That would slightly worry me. I have loads of experience or even I've failed to move with the times and still use tables would be more reassuring.

That how I normally do it, set it up then add the client, most prefer I stay as an admin just in case they need me in the future.

After going over my spending limit for my girlfriend this Christmas I was still underwhelmed with what I had gotten her. So I decided to create her a website for her hobby of cake making. Kirsty's Bakery The web site wont really get used but I'm sure she and especially her family will get a big kick out of it and appreciate the thought. You could easily do freelance with just HTML and CSS, just as people do as SEO experts, copywriters or a thousand other disciplines. But I think you will need to know a lot more about yourself before you do. You need to know what you can do and understand what projects are for you and which are not. The question you ask about your portfolio suggests you are not ready. The most important thing I have to help my freelancing is resourcefulness, if I wanted to know what to put in a portfolio the first thing I'd do is research competitor portfolios. I started with just HTML and CSS, I picked up a bit of PHP as I went along. I did have a lot of graphic design skills to back it up but a lot of the websites I've done have just been changing a PDF to HTML. I learnt Joomla when I needed to and became a major share holder in a fashion company which meant learning Magneto. It's a lot like modules at university; you start a project with excitement and a bit of fear wondering how you'll get it done, by the end (if your a good student) you have done a professional job and have a good understanding of the subject.

Learn Photoshop to learn Photoshop, manipulate images and other wonderful graphic techniques. Don't use Photoshop and expect it to help you learn web design or logo design. I knows it's hard because you can do some amazing techniques with so little effort but evu has hit the nail on the head. Good logos are simple and convey their message without any fancy graphical techniques. Expect that the use of the logo might be on a billboard or stationary so it needs to be flexible and readable across sizes and materials. Great logos combine simple elements that make the whole greater than the some of it's parts. Here is a great example of this, it's just pure wit. So simple, just 2 colours, no effects and perfectly represents its subject. Remember ideas start in the mind and ideas are what makes a difference.
