I, like many others, have not got a genuine copy of Photoshop. Its such an incredible piece of kit, and would be much more useful if I had a genuine copy.

 

Thinking, as I'm a student, of getting this: Adobe Standard Collection

 

Design Standard combines Adobe Photoshop® CS5, Illustrator® CS5, InDesign® CS5, and Acrobat® 9 Pro.

 

Just had a few questions..

 

1)Is there any difference, in terms of the functionality of the product, compared to the normal versions (This is an educational version)

 

2)Is there anywhere this is cheaper, for genuine kit ?

 

3)If I buy it, and say.. have to re-format my computer, is the license transferable if I need to re-install again ect..

Three great programs there. In my opinion the three best Adobe programs...

 

1) No there isn't. Only the licence. The student edition is "For private personal use. May not be used for commercial gain". (Off the box of my CS4 suite).

 

2) No. Adobe set the prices. It is sold for the same price everywhere.

 

3) The key works on a single computer at a time. So if you reformat, you can reinstall and use the same key. Same as if you get a new computer.

I use my key on two computers. My desk top and my laptop. Actually three if you count my old desktop unsed in the corner.

 

In our field of work I can't understand why people use photoshop over illustrator. Don't get me wrong I love photoshot for photo editing. Anyway rant other for now...

You have already answered your question. To use Adobe products commercially you need to purchase the full licence.

Brilliant. Well, that's that idea out of the window. I'm a student. I can't afford 5/600£ for some software, albeit Photoshop / Illustrator.

 

Actually, its more like £1,180.14.

For commercial use you will be charging for your services so like any other business purchasing the tools of your trade is a neccessary expense.

Of course. I don't disagree with that. My bank balance has a problem with it though. I don't really do much graphic work at all right now, so that sort of expenditure on software I wouldn't really need right now doesn't seem like a great use of cash.

 

If it was a smaller amount of money then yeah, fair enough. But £1000+ on software is a rather hefty amount.

You could purchase the student version to gain experience and prepare portfolio examples then when you line up your first client use the income to purchase the full licence.

Lol, I spent some time looking into this myself some time ago. They changed the rules for the CS5 version for some reason. Anyway, glad to be of help.

Well you need Student ID to get the product key for the student version.

Since my CS4 box says no to commercial use, would that new rule take over?

Technically no, if the license you agreed to for cs4 said no commercial use then the cs5 license doesn't change it. However they may have an FAQ on their website
