Hi guys!

 

I'm in the starting process of coding a new website and I've already run into a problem.

 

I have a background image which I've been working a bit on in Photoshop and now I've saved it and on my computer it looks fine. But as soon as I upload it it gets some strange lines through it. Especially noticable in the bottom of the picture.

 

You can see it here:

 

I've tried to save it with different variations of quality without any success.

 

Hoping I can get some help.

 

 

EDIT: Seems this problem only persists in Firefox 4 B1 so i guess that is the problem

Could you post a link to the original psd?

it shows lines for me - though feint - in latest firefox but when i view the jpeg in psd they aren't there

It is more likely to be something in the coding rather than the image itself..

I'll try that however the size is over 200kb where as the jpg is only 60-70kb!

Well I'm attaching the png file now

 

 

In the png version the lines are gone. However its over 300kbs so I won't use it on the page as the loading time would be significant.

This is seriously strange. I opened up the .png file in photoshop and used the Save for web feature and saved it to .jpg only to find the lines back on the image. However if i just used Save As and made it .jpg (same quality level) the lines are gone.

Can you not scale it, and then have a script so when you click it, it enlarges to fullsize?? Like a lightbox gallery?

Yes, but not for images with gradients and thousands of colours and png may be better quality but the filesize is prohibitive

i only use save for web and devices when doing nav bars etc. Just out of interest, do you use a preset? If not, then i suggest the png-8 128 Dithered. Thats always worked for me Give it a try, muck around with the presets and see what you can get, try some of the others, you may find one that does the job

I wouldnt use png, especially png8 for that image. You are on the right track with jpg. Ash Scott you wouldnt use png for a large image without transparency. I'm not seeing any lines in safari, so sorry cant help here
