This is a great site that lets you try out some of the free and open source software systems. http://www.opensourcecms.com/ It should be useful to all of you who are unsure which CMS is the right one for you. It has information, ratings and also lets you go into the admin panels and see what the backends look like and work. So it will save a lot of time as there is no need to download all the different ones to see which one suites your needs as a site has done that for you EDIT: Also have a look at www.cmsmatrix.org it lets you compare up to 10 CMS's in great detail- thanks to rjdejong for the link

I don't really do this work any more but I have come out of retirement to help (another) local charity to have an up to date web presence, so a simple, non commercial brochure and blog site. No great security issues, just a handful of more or less static pages and a news/blog/updates page. It's for a group who monitor the presence of deer in the countryside. Anyway, what little I knew about wordpress is long forgotten and out of date anyway, but would that be a simple job - to set up the domain on free hosting with a free theme would it not? Swap out some header images and make a few other adjustments? For some reason I am slightly intimidated by the complexity WP ha…

  6. Hey guys, I am new here. My wordpress sites are taking way too long to load now [over 2 seconds] so I was told on an SEO forum that I can convert the sites to HTML and they will load much faster. Searching the net for instructions I came across this video which shows the process in nice easy to follow steps BUT what's showing in that video is not what I am seeing on my end. So guys, this is what is showing in Simply Static plugin Settings in my dashboard. If anyone can tell me what I should do here please would be great? Thanks in advance.

  7. Hi The company I work for now use a Wordpress site, which I'm getting to grips with. There seems to be an error in the code, which is slowing the site down. I've looked in the theme editor but can't seem to find it. Can anyone help? The website is: https://www.contractflooringjournal.co.uk/ When I load the page it's looking for these in the uploads folder, and I don't know how to remove them: https://www.cfjworkshops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/xxx_bg_xxx.png https://www.contractflooringjournal.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/17.jpg Thank you

Solr is an open search platform that provides balance queries and distributed indexing. It was built fast by the CNET, but later on, it was given to the party foundation. When Apache solr is integrated, Drupal provides an amazing experience. Many big companies such as Instagram, Twitter, and Netflix use Apache Solr. Here are 4 steps that you need to keep in mind to integrate solr search:- Installation of Drupal Module Installation of Apache Solr Configure both modules together Create a web search page

I've recently looked into making a site that allows uers to sign up and create a personalised page of their own almost like a DnD character sheet, quite customisable e.c.t. Although I'm not sure what CMS would be more fitting, I am open to suggetions and paid ones. I did look at Wordpress for their 'Plugins' but haven't found anything concrete (or in at least how I have invisioned what I'm trying to do). Cheers DJ

  15. Hi there, Not here to brag, just trying to get the word out. I've made a new CMS called Siteswitch which is particularly written for websites which are designed by professional web designers, and then maintained by their clients. The look and feel of the website can be altered by editing layout files which are included by the system files. New content can be added using a very simple and straightforward editing environment. It is built to be no-nonsense yet very flexible. Do give it a look, you can find demo versions as well as the download file at https://www.puckbarton.nl/siteswitch/

Is Elementor good guys? I'm a beginner and want something quick and easy I can use to set up a personalised website. So far I'm loving seeing things updating in real time and finding it simple to use but one forum member has advised me that it's 'bloated and will slow down my website.' Can anyone else verify this? All the online reviews are saying it's a good tool but the customer service sucks, which I don't really care about as there are a lot of YouTube videos.

Hi, I am looking to build a new site, i have built a few using wordpress with basic functions. The new site would allow registered users to select items maybe add to a cart and submit to registered suppliers within a certain area (close to customer). Suppliers would get an email notification and could submit there quotes. User would then login and accept quote and deal with supplier. both would have dashboard where they can see the orders etc. Could this be done with any CMS/pluging combination? thanks.

Our website is a large global webshop and uses SAP Hybris as a CMS; however, we're now developing a significant content arm and want to also have a landing page/content hub for daily articles, videos and updates, a bit like a news site. For this it looks like Wordpress is our most flexible option, but how well does WP integrate with Hybris? We don't want these sites to be completely separate, but for the content hub to sort of nestle in the webshop, whilst also being a destination in itself with its own look/design. Has anyone created a sub-site or microsite using WP on an e-commerce site that uses Hybris or another e-commerce-focused CMS?

  38. Pretty new to web development and such. Not too familiar with CMS's. I see many places web developers/ designers saying they create 100% bespoke websites and put it on Wordpress as a CMS for their clients. What do they mean? By Bespoke I presume they aren't just putting on a theme or using the builder right? Are they somehow creating it as a bespoke website through normal means with HTML, CSS, Javascript etc. then placing it onto Wordpress somehow for clients to edit their content? is that how that works?

  40. We mainly work in our in house CMS or Wordpress (it's 50/50), but we have occasionally run into a Drupal site recently from a client with an extensive customization that if we were to move it to another platform would be very expensive for them. And they are on an outdated version of Drupal, which looking at how it's structured is going to be a hugeeee problem to upgrade. It looks to be about the same time to update and give them the features vs. moving to Wordpress for the website. Would you stick with Drupal or would you move to WP thinking that it's going to be the same price and time wise? The client is feeling attached to Drupal...but my inclination is WP. An…

Hey there, I learnt HTML, CSS and JS many few years ago with the intention of going freelance as a developer, and although I'm not there yet I still try and keep up to date with the industry via newsletters and the like, and the passion is still very much there. I was recently approached by a local non-profit charity to create a website for them for free. The site needs to be developed before an upcoming event, which is in under a month, which means that learning whole new languages is out. The content will be largely basic - the most complicated it will get is probably hosting some videos and taking payment for donations, but it's highly important that the end prod…
