I'm aware that this type of question crops up regularly but I have been given the task of building somebody a website for their business which they can update easily. It won't be a massive website (5 pages) but it will be responsive and will contain Youtube and Soundcloud embeds. I am well versed in HTML/CSS and jQuery but need to employ, I presume, a CMS to allow the content copy to be updated easily. Is using something like Wordpress over the top for this kind of requirement or is there a better, more simple solution ? I don't want to have to learn PHP etc.. Many thanks

My client is looking to launch a marketplace business where they can upload their suppliers products but they will manage the distribution and liaise with buyers. The site will have multiple sellers, all selling multiple products. Some of the functionality that they are looking to include are: Ability for a seller to view when they have made a sale (possibly ability for seller to update stock numbers) Ability to show each sellers product as a 'shop' I have only had experience with creating a straight forwa…

For this example I took free bootstrap html template from http://www.templatemo.com/templates/templatemo_395_urbanic/ then I made administration for services, our team, portfolio and blog sections. So, site is here: http://somehost.bl.ee/ Administration panel for end user is here: http://somehost.bl.ee/objengine/admin.php?userid=testuser3&password=testuser3 Please fell free to add/edit/delete posts and upload pictures. Anything you change will be visible on http://somehost.bl.ee/ Can you suggest how to make admin UI more user friendly?

  4. Hi All, I have a problem where Wordpress crops any thumbnail from the very middle of the center of the image. This is a problem however as I really need it to crop from the middle of the top of the image instead. I've found a post on the wordpress.org forums that gives a fix but it edits core files and I really don't want to have to do that. The forum post is here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/thumbnail-cropping-from-top-left-instead-of-middle-center Does anyone know how I can do this without a plugin and without editing the core files? Any help much appreciated. Thanks, -Jack

  6. Hi, I have one main WP site. Now, I have designed some custom WP themes and I want to put them on sale on my main site. Now I want an option to show buyers, the working live demo of my designed sites. How can I achieve that? Will I have to create sub-domains for each demo site, install WP on that and then activate the theme on it? This will take lot of server space. What is the easiest option and what people do generally? Thank you. Update: I found these 2 links. http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Multiple_Blogs http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network Are they the only path to opt for? They look difficult for me. Is their any other method?

At the moment when you click on "properties to let" it takes you to an external website, which is something we don't want. 20. As of yesterday I decided to scrap my drupal development site and move on to WP. It wasn't an easy move because I've spent the last 6 months learning drupal and customizing it so much that it was barely possible to say it was a drupal site! My only gripe is that it takes balls of steal and patience to hack/tweak drupal and it's much easier to break than we think! Don't get me wrong, I am a drupal lover but sometimes patience has it's limit and I sure hope that d8 will be a lot easier for us al! Anyways, I am tweaking WP right now and I find it quite easy editing templates! I will have a working prototype to show soon and will start writing articles. Cheers!

Pixel and Tonic have just launched Craft in public BETA, which looks very promising. I thought id share it here http://buildwithcraft.com/. I like the emptiness of it, the fact you choose your content, fields and literally 'craft' a CMS without having to start writing custom PHP. For those who are used to ExpressionEngine, you will be familiar with this style of building sites and just how effective it can be. I think initially people will comment on the price more than anything, but honestly I see no issues passing costs on for enhancements to my clients, if it's a requirement. It would of been nice to see a bit more information on the add-ons though. Thought…

For all you EE developers ExpressionEngine 2.8 has been released and includes lots of lovely new features. Here's some of the highlights: 1. Template layouts You no longer have to embed common page parts separetely like header, footer, asides (or use Snippets). Template layouts work like embeds but work for a whole page. Typical layout template: <html> <head> <title>{layout:title}</title> </head> <body> {layout:contents} </body> </html> Of course you can create as many layouts as you need, and calling the layout into a template is one simple tag syntax: {layout="site/wrapper…

They only contain basic elements + usually large animated slider (taking half of screen), which is not what I'm looking for. Just wondering what you guys think of the plethora of instant site builders out there? All the major hosting services offer them, some seem to be terrible, whereas others offer a decent range of features. I made a quick website earlier using on of these sites, and shared it with a few friends - http://www.socialexperts.info/ The general consensus is however, that we are better off coding from scratch or using wordpress type sites? Can anyone recommend to me which host has the best instant site builder type features available? As these are the ones that I am really interested in.
