  1. Hi, I'm looking to create a website that can show a preview of a personalised book. On this site a user should be able to enter their name and choose a character with different hair colours, skin colours and then hit 'preview'. This opens up a flipbook with just these variables replaced. Please see a great example here: Click HERE for website with customization page I know that templates exist for things like flipbooks (personally i use Wordpress as a novice, so a wordpress plugin would be useful), but how would this customized feature be created? For example, would i use a PDF, convert to a flipbook, and then layer (css?) the name, character on top with HTML5 code? Are there any existing templates that do this already or simpler alternatives? Thanks

    CSS caption placement

@Seth and I are working on a website that uses Envira-gallery and are unable to use CSS code to move the image caption (which is currently located in a white font in the top left) of the front-page gallery images to below the bottom border of the image (in order too see the caption you have to first click on the image). We are looking for a way to center the caption below the image in the same spot regardless of what the viewport size is. Here is a link to the page: https://webdesignstaging.site/firstfloorflow/ Any help would be wonderful, thanks so much!
  3. Hi Guys, looking for a bit of advice if possible? I am doing a car sales website in WordPress. It will be fairly basic, you'll be able to search for new and used cars based on the users criteria and it returns a list or cars, you click through to see the details page with all the jazzy information. Fairly simple. However, it needs to have the following functionality on each detail page... "The ability to store finance information so a customer can choose from different options for eg: how many payments up front, how many months term and how many miles a year from drop down boxes and it will pull a payment example from the behind the scenes of the info we have entered." Any ideas on the best solution? I am toying with the idea of doing something non wordpress specific but wondered if anyone else has dealt with this kind of thing before in wordpress? Thanks for any input in advance, I owe you guys a tea/coffee/beer

    CSS for fixed header

Morning all. I was hoping for a bit of help. So I added the following to the Additional CSS field, in my wordpress theme. .site-header { position: fixed; top: 0; width: 100%; z-index: 2000; } .container { padding-top: 120px; } And it worked, the header is now finally fixed. But the problem I have now is that even though it's fixed on every page, it overlaps everything at the top of each page. Is there a way for it to not do that, or will I like have to make sure there is enough clear space on each page I add?

    Widget Title Font Colour

Hello there, I am currently working on a Wordpress Website. https://nationalexecutivechauffeurs.co.uk/ If you scroll down the homepage you will see a display of cars. I have added these using the single image widget. I also have titles for these cars, but you cannot see these as the text is white instead of black. I am really struggling to change the colour to black, does anyone have any advice? Thank you

  7. Hi Guys, Let me start by declaring that I'm just a kid trying to self teach myself wordpress, simply because I enjoy it as a hobby. This is my first ever website, so constructive criticism in easy-to-understand terms is welcome! I have made a website advertising myself as a web developer. Let me remind you I'm just doing this as a hobby for friends and family - so don't expect the website to be anywhere near the standard of a professional designer!!! I think I have just about finished the website, however there are a couple of issues that I would like to clear up that I don't understand. Website: magnifiweb.co.uk 1. When I am on the website and switching to and from the different navigation pages it loads very quickly. However, when I haven't been on the website for a few hours and load it up by typing 'magnifiweb.co.uk' into the URL, it can take at least 5 seconds to load the home page. I have used some speed test websites like Pingdom, and it says that the wait time is mainly down to the URL 'waiting'. I have absolutely no redirects set up to slow this process down, so can't understand why only sometimes it can take this long to load. 2. Using the same Pingdom speed test website (see attached image), there is an image called 'logooriginalwhitebg150px-150x150.jpg' I have circled this in red. This is an OLD image that I decided to remove from my Wordpress media library and and not use anymore. I navigated to the location of this image in my File Manager in Cpanel and deleted it from the folder as well - but for some reason it keeps coming back! Every time I go and check that folder in cpanel the same image has come back on it's own. Very frustrating. Any advice on these matters is greatly appreciated!
  8. I have a boarder around an image, but when a caption is added underneath the image, I am after the boarder to encapsulate the caption. .php <div id="attachment_55" style="width: 810px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img class="wp-image-55 size-full" src="http://ithorizon.online/wp-content/uploads/britain-at-war.jpg" alt="britain at war" width="800" height="600" srcset="http://ithorizon.online/wp-content/uploads/britain-at-war.jpg 800w, http://ithorizon.online/wp-content/uploads/britain-at-war-300x225.jpg 300w, http://ithorizon.online/wp-content/uploads/britain-at-war-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"><p class="wp-caption-text">Britain at War</p></div> .css /*-- image, video --*/ img, video { height: auto; /* maintain scaled height. */ max-width: 100%; /* width of container. */ } img.alignleft, img.alignright { float: none; margin: 0; } img.size-full { padding: .4rem .4rem .4rem .4rem; background-color: #fdf8f1; border: 1px solid #f8e4ca; border-radius: 4px; -webkit-box-shadow: 1px 2px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, .5); box-shadow: 1px 2px 4px rgba(0, 0, 0, .5); } /*-- image, video caption --*/ .wp-caption, .gallery-caption { color: #666; font-style: italic; margin-bottom: 1rem; /* margin before text */ max-width: 100%; } .wp-caption img[class*="wp-image-"] { display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; } .wp-caption .wp-caption-text { margin: 0; /* text padding */ } As you will notice, I am creating a WordPress theme. I am not sure if I have called up the all the right tags in CSS for the image and caption.
  9. Hello, I'm new here. I don’t know if anybody is able to help us with a project we have started or know of any plugins that can help us. Project Title: Document Printing PDF Proofing Tool (Linked with WooCommerce) – Pre-Flight Tool Description:- We are a print shop and we require a plugin/solution that works with Wordpress & WooCommerce. The plugin/solution needs to allow our customer to upload their pdf document/artwork that they want printing. This needs to be done during the product (i.e. Business Cards, A4 documents etc…) buying stage and once they’ve checked out - the pdf documents/artwork needs to be displayed in a proofing tool that shows them how it will look before we print it for them. If the customer is happy they need to accept the proof shown to them and then we can process the order like usual with WooCommerce. Alternatively, the product (i.e. Business Cards, A4 documents etc…) can be purchased and then the customers pdf document/artwork can be uploaded. However, the uploaded document needs to be associated with that order number. Once the document has been approved using the online proofing tool we will download the customers upload document and save it to our computer ready for printing and delivery. Requirements:- • Works with Wordpress (However, Magento is a possibility). • PDF needs to be uploaded to WooCommerce at product buying stage before checkout stage. However, if this isn’t possible pdf document/artwork can be upload after product check out but it needs to be associated to that product in WooCommerce order management system. • PDF then needs to be displayed after checkout stage in a PDF viewer to act as a PDF proofing tool (like Adobe PDF Pre-flight tool) • If possible it would be good to have a red dotted line border 3mm from the edge of the document to show where important detail must be placed within to ensure they don’t get cut off when printing/producing the documents. Similarly Function Websites include: - https://doxzoo.com/ https://www.doxdirect.com/ https://www.route1print.co.uk/ These website have good examples of how we would like our proofing tool to work. Suggestions: - Other possible solutions can include using a Magento platform and extension or any other solution to have a well-functioning proofing tool but Wordpress & Woocommerce is preferable. Any other ideas are welcome to achieve our goal. Thank you, James

    Beginning with WordPress

I have created a few websites for personal hobbies, along the way I have gain some HTML & CSS skills. So I thought now is the time to look at creating a theme for WordPress. So far, I have installed WordPress and created a page of content within the standard theme that came pre-installed. It all looks very alien now until I get my head around how it all works, how a theme is used, where it all the files are saved, etc. I know about Treehouse, due to lack of finances I am left with looking at a Free learning solution. Can anyone recommend any good videos that explain right from the start of what WordPress is, how it works, how to create a theme, etc.?
  12. I’m very curious about this topic cause the definition of web designer is different from country to country, for example some countries define a web designer as a person who knows design and programing (Javascript and php etc). I wanna know where you are from and which language you need to be web designer like the following. Country : Japan Language: HTML,CSS,*JavaScript, *wordpress *As to JavaScript, you don’t have to know everything about it but at least how it works. Plus you basically just need to know how to customize jQuery. I really wanna know to what extent I should learn JS or php if I need to learn them as web designer in some countries. Thanks in advance for your help !

    Ads in Drop Down Menu

Ok, so this is a slightly strange request but my clients have asked me to put in some ads that appear to the side of the drop down menu text... I have had a quick couple of searches of plug ins but can't find anything suitable for this. Any suggestions? Or what alternatives would you suggest? It's a tourist website that also sell advertising space to local businesses and vacation rentals

    Help please

Hi. I'm pretty new to web design, having taught myself Wordpress last summer and having worked with only a couple of themes/builders. I've recently been asked to do a bit of work on this site https://www.katerinasteventon.com/ (which uses Avada theme) and have done a few small bits but I can't find out how to remove the white area between the sliding banner and the navigation. Can't see any padding anywhere on various settings I've looked at. Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

    Web ??? What am I?

Hi everybody, Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I would like to know what I am or want to be? A web designer? UI/UX designer? Don't think I'm a developer as I can't really code. I have always been interested in websites and I created my first website when I was about 15 for my uncle's business. It was very simple, written in HTML with a company logo, a few images, text, colour etc. I put this hobby on hold, went to college for a year and then had to get a job, which I stayed in for 17 years. In the last two months, I have picked my old hobby back up and created a website on the Weebly platform, three on Wordpress and I'm just starting to learn Magento. The Wordpress websites, I signed up for some hosting, installed Wordpress, installed a theme and modified it by changing some code, installed various plugins and created the pages. The website address is www.azuredigital.co.uk. Back to my question, is this classed as web design? UI/UX design? I need to get another job but not sure what I should be applying for? Am I even good enough for any of these yet, or should I be looking at entry-level/junior?
  20. Hello guys, I am a HTML Developer and I am inspired by PSD TO HTML Conversion sites like PSD2HTML.com, Codemyconcept.com. So, I just want to know that whether there is any market for such services where designer would outsource their PSD to HTML conversion services. I have launched a PSD to HTML brand called PSD To Manythings and the website name is not relevant. It has almost been a year but I am not receiving any good amount of orders for this service. I want to know how should I promote this service and bring in more business. It seems that there is already a lot of competition going around in the market and I want to know how to be the best . Really need your help guys. Any advice from anyone of you will be really appreciable. Thanks in advance. Regards, Pratik G Ghela
  21. Just curious on how the members here like to build their websites, or do you use an array of methods?
  22. Hello! I am a new webdesigner who has got her first client. My project with this client is to redesign his current website. The problem is that we are going to transfer the domain to my hosting service and once the transfer is complete, his website would be our of service. That's why I've decided to leave the domain as it is for now. I would like to create the new website on WordPress while the current website is still ON... but how do I do this? The solutions I have so far are: - To create the new website in a subdomain. I have read about redirecting but if I do that, does it mean people will have to go to subdomain.com to be taken to maindomain.com? because what I want is to change the subdomain address to the main domain... (subdomain.com to maindomain.com) , so people go directly to it. Is it complicated to do with Wordpress? - I have read about a temporary URL but it seems complicated. - My other solution is to buy another domain, work the new website there and then migrate it to the client's domain. (I don't know why this solution seems easier to me) - The other solution is to create a "under construction page", that's a cool solution but I would like to avoid it. I don't know if this sound dumb for you but I am new and I'm learning in the process. I never imagined I would have my first client this quick and now I'm freaking out. Thank you in advance for your answers! Happy Holidays!

    What Software Should I Use?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone has any idea which is the best completely free open-source software I could use to create my website. I've been using a program called Open Element up until now. But it has some shortcomings including text which changes size depending on the webpage and it doesn't have a built in search engine. The type of software I'm looking for must be drag-and-drop since I only know a little bit of coding. It must also allow me to use a search engine, preferably through something built in, and it must have a good way to change how it displays pages on mobile. Finally, I'm looking for something more like Wix than Wordpress. So something where I have relative freedom to change the themes, increase the size of images, change the layout, move things around freely, etc. as I wish. It must also allow for good SEO. Note that I don't need a url or webhosting, since I already use GoDaddy for that purpose, but only need the design software.

    Advice on pricing a project

Hi, I could really do with some advice regarding a project my company should (hopefully!) be starting soon. The client is a relatively large business, and the project involves over the course of 12 months redeveloping about 24 websites, made up of restaurants, event venues, and cafes. In an attempt to make this project easier and more cost-effective we suggested to the client we set up a base set of web components (forms, navbars, footers e.g.) and put together 3 templates (restaurant theme, event venue theme, cafe theme), with a layer of branding CSS to help the individual arms of the business retain some branding differentiation. As a result of this component idea I suggested to my MD we look at using a decoupled CMS-Frontend architecture, taking advantage of Nuxt.js (my new favourite toy!) and it's component-based methodology for the frontend, and using WordPress as the CMS. With this framework we would be looking at creating a custom set of components, 3 WordPress themes, and 3 front-end Nuxt.js templates for the corresponding themes. Other than some difficulty finding appropriate UK hosting for our needs this was looking like a good solution, however my MD has told me that he was going to quote the client £10k for the templating project because he doesn't feel the client would be happy paying anymore. I responded by saying really that's not enough for the type of architecture we have been talking about. The question I have is; am I wrong to say £10k is not enough for this project? My experience tells me that £10k is fine if we remove the front-end framework from the equation. As keen as I am to do this project in the way I've described above the number in my head was more along the lines of £20k. Am I way out on this one? Appreciate any advice I can get on this. Thanks!
  25. Hi everybody, I hope somebody can help me! I am using a customized WP theme on my site, and all worked fine. I have 1 news article on my website. However I have posted a new portfolio item, only tagged with category 'feature'. But it appears under my News page, where only posts tagged with 'News' should appear. I am not sure if this is being caused by my last update of WP or if it's a bug in a code? There is an option for Blog page settings, and if I choose only the "News" tag, it still shows both articles. What can I do to correct this? Is somebody willing to have a look and help me? My designer couldn't find a solution and is now MIA
