Notepad - works a treat!

I would recommend Aptana, which is a windows alternative to Coda. It has cool features like built in FTP/Project Management, File tree project structure, and more!

I checked "coda" and was disappointed that it was mac.

Glad there is something like "coda" for windows!

I guess Coda is quite expensive - you have to buy a new Mac Book Pro to run it!

Ever heard of netbeans?

Notepad++! It has syntax highlighting, macros and functions, auto-FTP and multiple windows. So useful and best of all it's free.

starting out, i find dw has too many functions that I wont be using.

Notepad++ ,htmleditor , and dreamweaver all these are best software for html designing. you can use free version of any software.

DreamWeaver has never ever failed me and is the industry leading standard as a text editor.

I vote for Codelobster PHP Edition

It is very handy free HTML, PHP, CSS editor.

+1 for netbeans.

Another vote for Coda. I used to use Dreamweaver, which was great but just not worth the money as I didn't make any use of most of its features, using it only as a code editor.

If your using Ubuntu. Bluefish is my recommend.

as a beginner you can use NOTEPAD++ and when you get some knowledge you can use Dreamweaver, by the way use w3schools.com to learn more about html,css or many web based language!

Dreamweaver and notepad++ I have already used it. Dreamweaver is good but Is there any other option so that I can use them too...?

I'd prefer Dreamweaver, I have tried many other HTML editors but they all worse than DW. The codes created by DW are more organized and DW will give us some prompt when creatping a new tag. What's most important, as far as I know, many other HTML editors don't allow us to add local link and image but DW can.

i think using notepad++ will improve your memory

Komodo Edit fast, works with many and has inbuilt preview function and FTP client.

Netbeans IDE (my favorite, any language) all in one, for html/javascript live view in Chrome with Chrome plugin.

Both are free.

is that some special version of notepad or the plain one that has no project management, no syntax highlighting, no code completion, no code collapse...

I currently use Coda. Did use Dreamweaver until a few months ago.

I used Dreamweaver for years (loved the code editor) but now using Visual Studio, and it's great. The only thing I dislike is the fact I can't minimise code blocks the way I used to with Dreamweaver. The good thing though, is being able to create your own code themes.

I either use notepad++ or cpanels inbuilt editor.

Dreamweaver and Notepad++ is the best. i am not using coda but my friend told coda is also best editing tool.
