    My first choice is Photoshop then AE. You can use them both to make an animated .gifs.

    If you need to add audio in GIF then choose an HTML document, or Flash to make an .swf animation.

    I'm using Notepad ++ . and It is too much good for me. I saw many expert inspired me to learn by it. By they way, I'm new yet. This thread really helps me so much.
