Feedback please- How can improve the design of site
Ok, a few things. 1. I really really like it. It is set out well and seems easy enough to use, the only complaint is the text on the main page when selecting a house. The 'choose from thousands of households'... it just doesn't suit. it might be the changing of many colors but I think that could be changed. It might by my network blocking images or too many people on at once but the buttons after you scrolled off them didnt' change color for a while. Apart from that, they just went the same color as the background they were over but I feel this may be my connection atm being stupid... Other then that it looks really good you should be pleased with how it turned out!

Starting out, cms or code? :O
Ok, i got time to work on the site a bit today and I revamped it a bit I created more pages, put images in and experimented with the ftp client again I redid the nav bar, changed the color scheme. Now I have a future updates list that also has questions I come up with incase you feel like answering any of them My first question though is how to get the word site name (to be renamed afterwards) to the left hand side of the page while keeping the navbar to the right. I tried creating a seperate id for it inside the list. eg. <li id="navbar"> while it already had an id tag that encompassed that plus more code but it didn't work. Help would be appreciated http://logam.host56.com It also looks a bit nicer too

Starting out, cms or code? :O
Ok, im going out to work now but I will put it in when I get home. I will be making a few more pages and attempting to interlink the pages to the home page tonight! I also need to think what else I could add to the site, maybe some pictures and try to start experimenting with backgrounds and css background properties

Best - html - css - php - javascript editor
im not expert but im learning on notepad++. Just like notepad but I can have tabs, text is highlighted in different colors for different meanings and there are tones of helpful little things that make life easier and the experience more fun then just using plain old notepad. Have a look if you want @ notepad++ i know some other users around here swear by it

Starting out, cms or code? :O
I had a bit of spare time today in between classes to do a bit of googling and see if I could find out for myself how to set out navigation bars through lists. I found this tutorial that gave you the code but explain which parts did what. There were quite a few snippets of code I don't quite understand yet but I will get them in time. I learned about how the inline style and how the text decoration css code can remove link underlines from text. After tweaking the code to my liking, adding bits and subtracting others I have come up with a not quite working menu bar yet. I still have to create the other links and pages but I am learning more and more about css and html as well as the correct use of ftp clients. If you want to see and suggest improvements on my navigation bar, please do so! http://logam.host56.com/ is the link BTW, I want the background on my first website and the nav bar to extend across the page, im unsure how to do this help would be appreciated thanks all again for the amazing help!

Starting out, cms or code? :O
ok so good morning all i have classes today so I will be on sparingly but enough to ask any questions that bug me I have created a free hosting site and learned all about uploading pages. I got lucky that the css and html files liked each other and it all seems to be as designed. http://logam.host56.com/ This site uses the code I posted above Not the best looking but it's definitely a start EDIT: forgot this bit ^^ the questions from the code. Basically the google and yahoo links :S i tried doing these in a table but I saw on helen's portfolio site she uses lists to structure her's. Some info about this would be amazing Basically the heading contact me and the text note: have a big gap between them. I am not sure how to get rid of that gap The post or get function in regards to the form is referring to html dog's explanation of forms and how post (hides) and get is the default. (i did not really understand it :S) So a form element will look something like this: <form action="processingscript.php" method="post"> </form>

Please review my blog
Hi I like your site first off but I am not sure what the birds in the logo have to do with anything technological or to do with languages. Your adsense placement is good I think, it is right in the direct point of vision for the user when they click onto your site so that they don't have to scroll to see it. It also blends nicely with the colors you are using on your site. I think the categories work but might take up too much room on your page, if you can compress those to be smaller like drop down menu's or something, it might help you fit everything else in so its easier to see when the user lands on your site. Content wise you are doing well, best of luck and hopefully my hints are helpful

Starting out, cms or code? :O
Hi helen thanks for your advice! I took the past few posters advice and decided to just roll with it and see how good my code remembering skills were and I admit I had to glance back at the lists of tags/properties a few times and the site doesn't look the nicest but I managed to get a form (not functioning but able to be filled with text) and a few other bits and pieces. I am going to post the code because it contains questions I came up with as I created it as well as if you could point out any errors or ways of simplifying things. thanks HTML Code - My First Website <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Logam|First Website</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="web.css" /> </head> <body> <h1>Logam's First Website</h1> <table class="titlenav"> <tr> <td><a href="http://www.google.com"> Google </a></td> <td><a href="http://www.yahoo.com"> Yahoo </a></td> </tr> </table> <!--- My sad attempt at a navigation bar, help would be appreciated ---> <p> <h2>What is this site?</h2> <ul> <li>My first site</li> <ul> <li>Ever</li> </ul> <li>Completely handcoded in notepad</li> <li>A demonstration of my basic coding skills</li> </ul> <h2>About Me</h2> <p class="intro">My name is Chris Newman, a reasonably young designer attempting to get into the world of web design. I can't really decide what to write here... hopefully it isn't too boring. I am trying to experiment with formatting blocks of text using the css class function however I am not sure it is the correct method in comparison with ID.</p> <h2>Contact Me</h2> <!--- How Do I remove the space that appears between the h2 and h4? ---> <h4>Note: Doesn't really work.</h4> <form action="contact.php" method="post"> <!--- I need some clarification as to when you would use post or get ---> <p>Username:</p> <p><input type="textarea" name="nameinput" /> <br /> <p>Password:</p> <p><input type="password" name="passinput" /> <p><input type="submit" name="detailsubmit" value="Log In" /> <input type="reset" name="detailsreset" value="Reset" /> </form> </body> </html> CSS Code body { background-color: #EAEAAE; font-family: arial, helvetica, "times new roman"; font-size: 0.9em; } h1 { border: 0.1em solid navy; background-color: #0276FD; text-align: center; margin: 0; } h2 { margin: 0; } .intro { text-align: justify; text-decoration: none; color: #0276FD; } .titalnav { text-align: center; } I wanted to expand on it a bit more but it's getting late here in Australia and I need some sleep :S When I wake up I will read if any posts have been made, thanks to all so far for your amazing help in getting me started BTW, if a question in the commented area of the code doesn't make sense please let me know and I will try to explain it better. The post or get function in regards to the form is referring to html dog's explanation of forms and how post (hides) and get is the default. (i did not really understand it :S)
