Hey everyone, I've got a little problem at the moment and I really need some help... I've got a client who has his current website/domain with Easyspace. He's told me he's got a number of domains on Easyspace (.co.uk - .tv - .eu - .me). Anyway - I normally use UK2 for my domains/hosting and their business package would be great for what I need. The only problem is that my client's main marketed website [and email address] is the .tv domain and UK2 don't support these. I've also looked on Easyspace and it looks like they charge to release domains. Can someone please help me with this as I don't know what to do (e.g. transfer 3 across and leave .tv/find a comple…

I hope you can help, I have just put up a new website. The files in my old website were a bit of a mess with all the html, jpegs, gifs in the root file. I thought I would make it tidy with my new site and put everything in folders. This worked fine, so instead of my htm files being in the root they are now in a folder 'html' the 'index' htm being the only file in the root. A problem has arisen when I do a 'Google ' search for my site, when I click on it I get page not found, the reason being that it is looking for my products page as /products.htm when my new site this is/html/products.htm so the search is not finding it. I thought this would simply be a case of re…

Okay, first the obligatory background. I've got a reseller package, administered via cPanel/WHM, all working nicely. I have a client's web site hosted, and that's working. I have a contact form on the site, which allows people to send messages to people, but that's not working. The problem, as far as I can tell, is to do with the email delivery route. The domain's DNS is handled by another company, so I don't have access to that, but basically the only traffic that comes to my server is for the web site, I have no reference to the mail server at all. When the web site tries to send an e-mail the server recognises that it's on the same domain and tries to deliver …

I need help with disabling read access to files stored in specific directory in IIS 7.0 (Windows 2008). In Windows Server 2003 (IIS 6.0) it was simple: Properties->Home directory and simply uncheck the "Read" check box. I tried to disable read access in IIS 7.0 using "Edit permissions" but then my application also can not access files located in that directory. Thank you! BR Faik

I maintain a website for a youth club (8-12yrs) which contains several photo galleries of children (mainly participating in sports activities). I have complete editorial control over the content and I am very careful not to include photos which could be remotely suggestive or of interest to paedophiles etc. However, on checking my web statistics I realise that a referrers url has linked to us several times and it's clearly a porn site - what 'type' I don't know but having Google'd it, it warns of explicit adult content etc. I'm not inclined to visit to check where or how they are linking as it may conytain child pornography and you'll understand that's the last t…

Not sure if this is in the right section but here goes. I have a website that was hosted 1&1, after a few issues I decided to move to another host. I have now noticed that the internal links on our site no longer work so they can no longer be accessed via www.examplesite.com/sub-page, they have to be accessed via www.examplesite.com/sub-page.html. Does anyone know how to enable rewrites to enable me to fix them again? Thanks in advance.

I mean seriously. Why. I know PHP and .net and asp and bla bla bla developers and they are happy to code with those languages, but when it comes to the frontend stuff they just dont give a damn. So how do you get straight into the server side stuff? Do you have overdeveloped brains in that area, or what?

Hello! I thought i'd post the problem here on the forum, as it's been niggling me for a little bit. I'm normally pretty good with .htaccess, but can't seem to put my finger on the following: I'm looking to re-direct requests for www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.php to just www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/ I only want it to work for requests ONLY for index.php not with anything else e.g. I would not want redirect anything like the following index.php?showtopic=100 or index.php?act=Reg&CODE=00 etc etc... The following code I wrote does this, but unfortunately, people can't register because once they click submit registration - they are redirected to the ho…

With support from my host providers we have deduced this; it can be viewed on two other comps in the house no prob. I have two questions then; Can someone explain to me exactly what this means? Also then are there any mac users that use terminal here that can explain the process? I have found out what the commands are i need to run; dnscacheutil -flushcache I think I just need to type that straight into the window but is there anything else I should know? I do have the missing manual and do plan on learning how to use it prope…

Someone I am helping out has come across something that I haven't tried before and so hadn't found the error until they asked me the cure. Basically, we both use Filezilla to upload files but they have also been using the right click > View/Edit option which opens HTML and PHP files in notepad. Yet, under advice from me, they installed Firefox and now when they right click on an HTML file an error about file association comes up. I get the same error. I have checked file associations under control panel and the file types are set to IE. Yet this is not unusual since I want web pages to open in a browser. But how do I set the edit option? Hope this makes…

I hope I have posted this query in the right area. Trouble is I am not sure what the exact problem I am facing is based upon but I thought it could be server related in a way... A friend of a friend of mine (who I will call bob) asked me to update a very old website which has not been touched for maybe 10 years. It was setup for a company when he was one two of the co. directors and he did not have much dealings with it. Since then his partner left the company and he now wants to update the website. After a couple of weeks research he has managed to provide me with some details concerning the website setup. He gave me a BT Connect administration user name and …

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me. Back when I first started building websites I used a host called Homestead. They had their own WYSIWYG editor (which I now see is a disgrace to HTML) and ftp access built in. I'm hosting about 7 websites with this Homestead and have been for about 3 years. I pay a lot of money each month to host these sites and now I have my own (proper) webserver with namesco I'd like to host them on there. The one problem I have is that I have no direct access via FTP to the server so I can't get to the files. I looked into the program files of their 'sitebuilder' software and found the sites but they're all in their own propietary format …

Hello, Just wondered if anyone may be able to assist. I am currently building an e-commerce site, where files (all different types) that I create can be downloaded. I was wondering if it is possible to protect my files from being copied (after they have been downloaded) and distributed elsewhere without my consent. Is it possible to make my files read only, so they can be used but not copied after they have been downloaded? Of is there another route that I may take to protect my files. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Hi all One of the charity websites I look after is having some issues with regard to the .htaccess file... 301 redirects don't seem to be working, for the main domain, OR the subdomain(s). I know the .htaccess file is right, because it's pretty much identical to the one I use for my own site, save for the domain specific bits in the 301. According to the host, there is nothing wrong with the servers settings, but I find this hard to believe quite frankly. Anyone got any ideas as to what settings on the server could be causing the .htaccess files to be ignored etc? Regards Scott

Fortunately I have got a mega offer to setup an own server for an office . They have given IBM System x3650 type 7979 model server with 128MB speed broadband connection. I moved an entire site from godaddy to united hosting for SEO reasons. On browsing the site I had several 404s because of file naming. My internal links were written without the .html, like this http://www.boilerreplacement.net/about The files names were written with the .html like http://www.boilerreplacement.net/about.html This didn't cause a problem on go daddy hosting . It was somehow able to resolve the file names. On finding out that I was getting 404s I wrote .htaccess file with 301 redirects. This didn't resolve the problem and was giving me a 500 error. In the end I had to rename my links. I've been told that I want a mod rewrite…

Hello, I need a htaccess expert I think because I am slowly going insane. :-) I am trying to redirect some product pages from the old site to the new site to benefit page rank. The actual domain has not changed, just the structure. For example, redirect from: www.example.co.uk/itemdetails.php?itemId=48 To: www.example.co.uk/category/item1.html Here is the code I am trying to use but I think I am missing something as it is not working: RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^itemId=48 [NC] RewriteRule /itemdetails\.php$ /category/item1.html [R=301,QSA,L] Can anyone see where I am going wrong. Thanks in advance.
