sub domains

Featured Replies

ok all

ive just been assigned my second ip address for my server. and know i would like to setup a subdomain from my main domain

sub.dansdomain.co.uk and have this sub domain point to the second ip address, so im using freeparking, ive gone into managing my dns and added the subdomain sub and the ip address for it is the ip address that i was supplied. is there anything else i need to do?

so from here i have gone into webmin and told it to only listen on the port i want and to only that new ip address

so when typing in sub.dansdomain.co.uk:portnumber it should take me to webmin, but it doesnt seem to work it just locks me out of webmin i can change the setting through SSH so its ok. is there something i need to do with this ip address when i was given it? do i need to tell apache to listen on it all ports???

and help would be much appreciated

thanks

DAn

there is a setting under webmin to change the ip and port, on top of this some isp's firewalls block many ports.

webmin->webmin configuration->Ports and Addresses

also ff3 blocks all ports par 80

no apache need not be aware, webmin listens on ports seperate of apache

one last thing, you'll need to check the "local host name" this might not be you domain name and can be accessed via

webmin->Networking->Network Configuration

(you'll need to contact your isp to change the default host name as most isp's reset the name do their default on reboot)

thanks for that mikejonesy, im still having some issues with the two ip addresses, i was given one in the first place and i asked for a second one for the reason stated above, i have setup a virtual host for that second ip address that should point to specific folder and show something, i have gone to free parking created the subdomain and pointed it specifically to that second ip address, so gone into web min and server -> apache webserver -> i have then gone to global configuration and into networking and addresses and told apache to listen to that second ip address as well but when i try to restart apache i have nothing but errors and it wont let apache start, as soon as i remove this second ip address it works ok.

does anybody have any suggestions on how to do this exactly?

your httpd.conf should look like:

NameVirtualHost 100.100.100.100:80

<VirtualHost 100.100.100.100:80>

ServerName www.domain.co.uk

ServerAlias domain.co.uk www.domain.co.uk 100.100.100.100

</VirtualHost>

NameVirtualHost 100.100.100.101:80

<VirtualHost 100.100.100.101:80>

ServerName www.domainb.co.uk

ServerAlias domainb.co.uk www.domainb.co.uk 100.100.100.101

</VirtualHost>

If the ip is not in the server alias it won't catch it, you don't need domainb.co.uk and www.domainb.co.uk in the alias I've just included to show you need to put the alternate www or non www to catch both.

if that don't work tell apache to listen on all ip's (but only on port 80):

Listen 80
