New responsive portfolio site

Featured Replies

Hi,

I put my site live a couple of weeks ago. I want to keep adding content to the blog over the upcoming weeks. It's responsive and built with Perch. My main focus of the site is for people to see my work, understand what I do, and ultimately contact me.

wow, I really like it, it's really beautiful.

The only thing that could change is that you have: ''

''Featured Work

I focus on the details when it comes to designing and building for the web and mobile applications. I consider every aspect of a project to achieve not just something that looks beautiful, but actually works and achieves its purpose.''

Then you have the ''VIEW MY WORK'' button and immediately after you have your work, but if your work is there, then what's the point on having the button?

As you can tell this is just something minor, your website is superb, very well done!

Hey Sarah

I really like your site.

The content is direct, to the point and well written. The design is clean, easy to use and functional.

I like your drop down menu for smart-phones. It's similar to the one I use.

My only criticism which is probably more personal preference is the padding left side and right side on the footer. I would have given it more space either side to be online with the 'Featured Work' paragraph.

My favourite bit is the dynamic content on the home page with the cuppa - looks a bit like my desk atm!

Anyway, great site- well done. :)

Very nice. Some websites just have that touch of class, which says clean, professional and bespoke and this is one of them!

Wow. I wish I had more to add than that. I really like your site. It is very professional, without being sterile. It is a site that I could see attracting all types of clients, Really good job.

Great job sarah3585. Your website has a professional look. Every thing is properly placed. Keep it Up.. :good:

I really like your site, it's stylish and elegant. The content is upfront and everything is well placed. I find it refreshing actually, good job! :santa_smiley:

I believe design should work with content, not dominate it.

well said, very inspiring

Very nice!

I've been meaning to try Perch myself.

My only (very slight) criticism would be the "+ Start new project button". For me the plus sign and the "new" imply that there are already existing projects and reminds me of a repeatable javascript field or something. Personally I would change it to "Begin Project".

I completely get your point, looking back at my original design I did have 'View my Full Portfolio' as the button text. The work that's there is just the featured/best bits, I want the button to make it clear that there is more to see, I have now modified it thanks to your feedback!

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it some thought and decide if I should reword that, thanks.

I see your point about the footer content not matching up with the content above, as that content is centred with not much text, and the footer is left aligned I don't think that will ever match up perfectly, so I'm happy to leave that as is for now.

Thanks for the comment regarding my content, I was actually dreading that part as writing isn't one of my strong points (hence preferring to play with pictures!)

I'm hoping to redo the hero image of the test at somepoint. It was done the day before I pushed the site live, so I feel it was a little rushed. I am happy with how it looks for now.

Thanks for everyones comments!!

Hi guys,

I'm trying to think of small changes i could make to the site to get more enquiries. I get a good amount of traffic, but not enough quality enquiries.

I was considering changing the 'Start a Project' button to Hire me instead. What do you think?

Open to other suggestions!

Thanks

You could try rewording a couple of the phrases, you have used the ambiguous 'if' quite a lot. Often assuming the reader is, has, will and being direct can push an indecisive mind as long as you are not pushy.

Also you could maybe slow the spin speed down a fraction on the icons, which look great, just like the whole site does.

'Start a project' - I'd go for 'Improve your online reputation "Hire Me" today'

*Edit*

Something that can make a thousand sales for you - 1 nice review from a genuine happy customer

I love the design and I am very shocked to find that you are struggling to get quality enquiries... I think your content its great, you blog is good too, I like the way you summed up the use of SASS in one short and sweet article... I would definitely go for the "Hire Me" for the button!

Colour scheme very effective

The large background image on the homepage is very effective!

Well done on a great design!

Thanks for all the comments guys, and apologises for not dropping back into this post for a while.

I've kept the Start a Project button for now, I'm still keen to see if Hire Me will be anymore effective. I do think Start a Project is more clear for the type of work I'm looking for, clients rather than agencies / recruiters and full web projects rather than the 'can you add a page to my Wordpress site?' type of enquiry.

I'm still looking at ways to improve the site so I can get more of the quality enquires, and less unsuitable ones. I do spend a lot of my time emailing prospective clients to then learn they either don't have the budget, or it's just not the right type of project.
