fallenzen reacted to Soapmarine in Hi there! I'm a girl webdesignerHello everyone,
I'm rather newbie in webdesign but I do my best, I learn, create, test, crush and continue to create! Together with a partner in crime (girl too!) who is graphic designer we founded our little tiny agency: www.madebymaud.com - I'm polishing and finishing the layout of the website now.
We are only too, she is visual, I'm techy, sometimes we laugh that we definately need 3d person to help us with webby stuff - a smarty guy!
I came from financial school, than did marketing stuff, now reconverted into webdesign. I love this challenge. I love to learn. I know that I know only a drop of the ocean in this area but I'm brave
I welcome any friendly and open-minded connection here!

fallenzen reacted to Jo 90 in New: User @mentions added to the forum.Hi,
Based on the suggestion from @@Jack we're pleased to be now using 'Mentions' , you can easily mention members within all your posts or topics, the mentioned user will then be notified via the forum notification system.
Simply using the @ symbol followed by the username of the member you want to mention & it will create a link to the users profile.
Hint: Using the link under the users avatar on posts, acts as a shortcut for mentioning them within your replies.
Example below:

I can't speak for the rest of the world, but a degree in web development probably isn't necessary over here in the UK, as it doesn't actually guarantee you have the skills to work professionally, just that you have the ability to pass a class. This is the same for design. A degree means nothing, all work comes from the strength of your portfolio.
So long as you can quickly write clean, semantic code that validates correctly, many design/development studios will probably take you on, at least on a trial basis. Make sure you have a strong portfolio of work you can show potential employers that showcases your ability to code well.

Ability > Degree. But obviously having both is better still.

fallenzen reacted to stixstudios in First customer designAs a 'first customer design' this is definately above average. I agree that the colours work very well together. I also like the overall feel of your logo design.
However, (perhaps being picky ) I would suggest a couple of 'tweaks' and methods to make it a bit more 'effective'.
Have a good look at the kerning of the word 'decorators' - there is too much space between the letters 'R A' also the letter S should line up with the end of the letter N above it (disregarding the serif).
A method I have found useful for getting the kerning right is to enlarge it on screen (or paper), step back and blurr your eyes enough so you are only looking at 'indiscriminate shapes' - what you will then see is the 'optical weight' of shapes and their relative spacing between. Never rely on software programs to do it properly - trust your judgement and adjust accordingly.
I do like your design, but It's these little attention to details, ie. 'fairy dust' that can be the difference between an ok design and a really good and effective design. It takes time and consideration.
Cheers,
Steve.

fallenzen got a reaction from rbrtsmith in Best way to learn HTML?I signed up to treehouse on a 2 month free trial just out of interest. Their approach to teach simply html css and php is easy and fun. I would definitely recommend treehouse if you are a complete novice.

fallenzen reacted to BrandableWeb in Please Review my Logo Design..I can see how important it is to give the details of who the graphic is for, since now knowing more about the duo it is easier to see the why you created those designs. Knowing that he is a guitar player and she is the singer - I really like the first one. Looking at that logo, that is exactly what I expect, the pick and simple name for the guitar player and the fancy script for the singer.

fallenzen reacted to teodora in Which web design is better (or worse) ?P.S. Also both designs could benefit with a bit more personality - both look a bit template-y in my opinion
To explain - I would have expected a mobile games company to have an exciting site, if that makes sense.
Good luck

fallenzen got a reaction from VN-Jonathan in Bitcoin as payment .... do you accept it yet?I do not see bitcoin much different to paypal when to comes to online payments. Yes it is volatile but the one clear advantage is you control your money. Not paypal or your banks.
