Hello, I've just been working on an image in photoshop elements and got a sepia look i quite liked. I uploaded the image to my webserver and then viewed it in a browser. The colours in the image look different in the browser than they do when viewed through photoshop or the windows "preview" application! I tried firefox and ie7 and it happened with both. I even saved the image from the browser (save as...) and then viewed it using it via preview and the colours were back to how I wanted them to look. Hi all, wondering if anyone has any pearls of wisdom to offer..... Here's my problem. I'm just putting together my first website, stupidly without a contract as it is for someone I know (not a friend, more like an acquaintance). She gave me a bunch of pictures to add to the website, I told her time and time again I could only use pictures if she owned the copyright or had a licence. I highlighted the importance of not being in breach of copyright etc, both verbally and by email. I need to make a decision on what camera I am going to let himself buy me for xmas...... But I'm a little, how shall we say, "out of it". Hello, i am currently working through my final assignment which is to be a 5 page live website. I have decided to design a ficticous site for a company selling adult halloween fancy dress costumes, therefore i need alot of images of these costumes. I have emailed a few fancy dress costume sites to see if i can copy and paste their images but they have all declined due to copyright. I have also searched on the stock photo sites mentioned on this forum and cant see any that would be suitable. Does anyone know how i could get hold of these images (just like the ones that the online fancy dress firms use)? Hope you can help. Thanks alot Colin

I'm still using Fireworks to compress my images, I use the batch process and I'm really pleased with the results. The problem is, I've been using Fireworks for about six years now and have suddenly thought there may be something better out there. Does anybody know of a better jpeg compression software program?

I was asked by the Linlithgow Climate Challenge Group if I could take some light graffiti photos as part of the WWF Earth Hour project. As part of the Earth Hour project, the LCC had arranged for the Linlithgow Palace lights to be switched off. The photos were taken on or just after 8:30 pm and it was almost pitch black - it was a new moon. Exposure times were between 20 to 30 seconds. However, this allowed us time to write the longer words. If i buy a stock image for use in a client's website is that me transferring the license to them? Is it better for me to buy or get the client to buy?

My understanding of the editorial publishing industry is that they look for kitsch or candid sort of photos, especially regarding travel and foreign destinations, sort of like if you search for "old man sitting" in PhotoShelter. Hi everyone, My other half has been doing alot of phototaking soon, and ive agreed to build a little website to show off her photos, but she wants to be able to put a sample watermark on them, to stop people just taking. The big problem ive got, is i dont have one, and have no idea how to use gimp/photoshop, so if there anywhere that you can get a watermarked "sample" image that you can just copy onto the pictures? thanks Karl

hi, i have built a 'Made-Up' Surfboard site where the company makes custom surfboards etc. I now want to add a couple of pics to show what their boards look like. But..Where can I get the pics from? I know I need to browse Royalty Free Pictures sites for the actual pictures, but what about the rules of passing the surfboards off as the 'made-up companies'' own surfboards, when they are actually not??? I really dont want to infringe copyright laws doing this. But what would it be to have a company who makes surfboards, not show some examples right?! Thanks in advance.

Where's the best place to find textures?

I've been having some issues printing from Photoshop CS3, and I'm hoping someone can tell me what it is I'm doing wrong. Using a Canon MP610, and trying to print A4 size, I seem to get evenly spaced vertical lines across the entire image, almost as if something is stuck to one of the cartridge heads and is dragging along the paper. I sent the printer back for a service twice, and still got the same result. However, if I print using anything other than Photoshop, my prints come out perfectly. At present I'm using Easy-Photoprint EX which came with the printer. Can anyone, 1. Fill me in on how to adjust print settings in Photoshop? 2. Recommend any good progr…

I would love to be able to imitate the zoom feature that Figleaves has on there site Example: Figleaves Just press the zoom link and a nice popup appears with the zoom & pan features. The design is really slick. I have researched Zoomify and Magic Zoom. Magic Zoom seems the closest I can get but cannot provide the extra zoom, it seems set to a predetermind magnification. Does anybody know of some better software? Are there any down sides to using image zoom and pan software. Like browser compatability? Any downsides to SEO? and does Flash need to be installed? Hi I wonder if anyone can tell me please the best place to get certain web graphics? Whilst I can built websites my skills with graphic programs are very limited. When I try to design them myself they look awful. I have no problem designing basic buttons and shapes etc but I would like to add other things such as those little graphics depicting contact details - such as emailing and telephoning etc. Ideally they would be in a changeable format for me to change the colours etc. I am not a big fan of too many pointless images and not looking for 'amateurish' clipart but I'm trying to just make the site a little more interesting and professional looking without…

Hi guys, I've just passed my Web design exams - everything apart from E-Commerce. Before I start on that, I wanted to build a little Portfolio of non-E-Commerce stuff, just to get a feel of Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash etc. and get up to speed really. I have a few people I can build non-E-Commerce sites for already, but as they're friends, or friends of friends and I'm glad of the practice, I don't plan on charging them for it. I want to start getting in to photography a bit more and need to get myself a decent camera, I know literally nothing about photography but I am a pretty quick learner. So basically I want something that will be good for starting out but wont hold me back when I get a bit better. Hi all, OK basically I have an I-phone, and I want to take a picture of it on a white backdrop with some money sitting next to it. However, I am not sure if I am allowed to do this... Do I need apple's permission to use the picture on my site? I dont know if there is any sort of patent on the design etc that would restrict me from using a photo of their phone? Hi I have a photo which a customer wants as a background image to his site - it is pretty large 1323K. I obviously need to reduce the size of the jpeg to make it quick to load up - I have already cropped the image to the size I want it. I have Paintshop Pro 7 - but can't figure out if this can be used for this task? - so would like to use that or anything else that is free - I found one on the web but you could only upload photos of 300K. i just got a new camera a couple of days ago, the canon eos 1000D. haven't had much of a chance to take many pictures yet, the weathers been a bit poor and autum seems to have just passed its peak near me. i've taken a couple of pictures up in the local hills, not a particularly interesting location mostly just a melange of trees with no subjects, i think i got a couple of reasonable pictures anyway though. i've created an album so have a gander. next time i shall have to seek out some better locations and subjects! http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.ph...um&album=62

After paying the bills I had a little bit of money left over so I though I'd treat myself to the transcending css book and a few php ones as I really want to learn it. Anyway I have some money left over and would like to buy some stock photography, do you guys use one stock photography site exclusively? I looked at stockxpert and istock and they seem similar but which would you recommend for long time subscription?

Great forum and thanks in advance for any advice that comes my way. I want to show 12 worktop finishes on our website that the user can activate. This would use 4 different kitchen photographic images showing different styles of kitchens. We want our visitors to be able to click on a chosen worktop colour from the 12 we will offer, so that the image shows the visitor what the finished top will look like.
