February 24, 200917 yr hi, i have built a 'Made-Up' Surfboard site where the company makes custom surfboards etc. I now want to add a couple of pics to show what their boards look like. But..Where can I get the pics from? I know I need to browse Royalty Free Pictures sites for the actual pictures, but what about the rules of passing the surfboards off as the 'made-up companies'' own surfboards, when they are actually not??? I really dont want to infringe copyright laws doing this. But what would it be to have a company who makes surfboards, not show some examples right?! Thanks in advance.
February 24, 200917 yr You wouldn't be able to do that, unfortunately stock photos can only be neutral when it comes to licensing, so you can't actually use a picture of a laptop that you've bought the license for and say that it's your laptop that has been designed by the company. Do you have any more details about your company? If you don't claim that they're your surfboards, then it's not your fault if people assume they're yours. Just don't be purposely misleading, I'm sure that's a workaround.
February 24, 200917 yr Author Surf Site Here's the link ^ Well its a Surfboard Company that "make their own surfboards". So, It would NEED to contain examples(pics) of their surfboards. But as its, a 'fictional' company then bummer, what can I do about pics??? Would it still be good to use this Website in a Portfolio to show potential employers, without pics????
February 24, 200917 yr why not try to find a plain one somewhere on the net and then add your own designs to? or do what tshirt design companies do and just draw an outline of a surfboard and have the design on it that way. This way they are your designs
February 24, 200917 yr Just don't claim that it's a real company, and that it's making the surfboards in question, then you should be fine. Like I said, there's nothing they can do to you if people assume something is there? Hint.
February 24, 200917 yr You'll find tons of blank surf boards if you search in Google buddy. Then just add your own designs as Dizi suggested.
February 26, 200917 yr If it is just a portfolio site, i dont imagine you will be promoting it, so you shouldnt really need to worry about using other images really. However, just to be safe, i think going with Dizi's suggestion would be best.
March 23, 200917 yr I'm not sure what you mean by "Made up surfboards". Like small boutique companies that have their own brand that is unknown, or completely invented names? In anycase, you could try Rights Managed images, as these can have real surfboard maker logos on them, and you maybe able to use them on your website, assuming it's not for advertising. Take a look at some surfing specialist photographers at PhotoShelter.
