Thought I'd share the stock photo/video/illustration sites I've got bookmarked.

Some vary in quality and you might have to grind a bit to find an image you like, but I've used them loads for things like blog posts, social images and other online assets.

	Hi all,

I really don't want to pay $15 to Shutterstock for a guys feet walking up the street, just for me to need a different video two minutes later. Is there an alternative? Anything ethically questionable or possibly frowned upon but works? :)))

Maybe this will help someone here. I've been playing around with my project for a while now, creating vector icons in my spare time. I make all my work freely available. The icons can be found at https://www.webiconio.com

I am aiming at creating a new site for some structures we have built. The problem is as the projects are rather large you cannot obtain their beauty or scale from the photographs we have taken on site.

To combat this and make the site look better I am thinking of creating some sketch up models (which I have done before) combined with javascript and css, putting them on the website. I was going to take snapshots at various stages from the 3d model in sketch up; e.g. walls going up, then floor goes ontop of the walls. I'm pretty sure this can be achieved in javascript, think with css3 too.

Once this is loaded I was thinking of importing the 3d model to the site, so the user can then rotate and move around the structure as he sees fit.

What are my options?

I currently have a website and blog. I have a limited hosting plan purchased. When I upload images on my hosting server it consumes a lot of bandwidth and space. So I was thinking of hosting images on some-other image hosting site and direct linking it to my site. I found out few sites like imageshack, photobucket, tinypic, imgur. However, I see all have certain restrictions.

The features i am looking for are as follows:

1. At least 10gb space

2. At least 500gb bandwidth (bec I hav very high traffic)

3. Very high speed even during heavy load like 1000 visitors accessing every hour.

4. Ultra reliable servers (99.9% uptime)

5. Privacy control

6. Must not ever delete image if inactive

7. Create and manage albums

8. Company that will last long in business atleast for next 10 years.

9. Free of cost

10. Hotlinking/ Directlinking image.

Hi everyone,

as I am not sure if this is the right forum for announcing this so please feel free to move or delete this topic otherwise go ahead....

We have established the last months a new website for professional royalty free music also offering all tracks for completely free of charge for personal and non-commercial projects.

We are professional composers having created audio content for the last decades for all kind of media including TV, Film, Advertising, Trailers , Games ....

As we want to give something back to the community we have created easy to understand and fair license models in case you need a commercial license for your projects. Otherwise you can simply use all tracks for free e.g. in youtube videos or non-commercial websites (we do not support Youtube content ID!).

Likewise same mindset for the images, I don't want to use any tacky "lifestyle" photography or cheap looking stock imagery of smiling business men in suits to use as filler images for the portfolio section.

Hi All,

I am working on a fictional website for a web design agency and on the home page I want to feature a huge hero element with an auto sliding carosel of say 3-4 images.

I need some natural looking images/shots of a creative web design team working away in a studio, it's a typical feature you see on the home page on most of these kind of websites, but like I said, because this is being designed for a made up company, I need to source the images myself.

I know I could source these kind of images from typical istock images resources, but I always find they look a bit to pristine, clean white teeth smiles and too polished looking, I want something more natural looking and raw and for the lighting to be dulled down a bit, more rustic and workmanship with a screen full of sublime text code or an image of a designers/developers hand working/interacting with a modern looking app on an iphone rather than just a blacked out screen.

Attached is what I have found so far, so that at least gives you an idea of the type of images I am looking for, but like I say I don't like the polished look of these types of images.

Any suggestions guys?

Hi guys,

I need to give my metal art web page a facelift www.freestylemetalart.com by producing improved images of my metal art work. I have purchased a Nikon D5300 DSLR to do this. I was into basic photography 20+ years ago and am keen to kick it off again but am aware that it will take some time to get to know the camera. I have questions relating to lighting, if anyone would have the time to provide feedback regarding the following questions I would appreciate it.

Q1. Cheap lighting systems from ebay such as soft box's, are these sufficient?

Q2. Do some lights stay on all the time or do they all come on when a photo is taken (Ie like a flash)?

Q3. Feedback on what the appropriate lighting I might require would also be appreciated. You can see what I am trying to achieve by clicking on the link above to my web page, this will take you to my home page where you will find a slide show running with the photos that I have taken so far.

Cheers

Ok,

So I would like to purchase a digital camera to assist me with my metal art blog. I am thinking of the go pro style, something that can take a series of photos over a period of time and also video.

I just saw my nephew's camera on his drone helicopter, the clarity of the video was amazing. Voice is not as important because I intend to voice over when I edit on windows movie maker.

I would like; remote control, external monitor plug in or wireless option.

I would like all of this without spending go pro prices, is it possible?

I am creating a website solely for my photos. I have added a script so that all 54 of my photos are on a slideshow. The images are 500px x 250px. It is a good idea to have them all in my html file or will that add a burden to the file as it downloads onto the browser. If so, which other way is it a good idea to add many photos to my website illustrated into a slideshow.

Thanks

Hi, I'm new on this forum. I'm not english so I apologize if I make some mistakes.

While working on a website (I'm not used to do the website design) I searched for sand texture and didnt found any that fitted for my project. So I tried to make it using free brushes and it didnt worked. After 2 hours now of trying everything i could, I decides to ask to peoples who are more used to do websites if they know some textuers or brushes that can fit.

I'll try to explain you here what is the kind of sand i would like to have :

A light ochre sand quite smooth but a bit granular with some tiny imperfections like specks of sand of another color.

Thank you.

EDIT : To be more precise about the texture I would like to obtain :

http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/texture-de-sable-13910133.jpg

http://www.opalesurfcasting.net/IMG/sable.jpg

The color I am seeking is beetween those two images.

About the textuer, I would like a smoothier (dont know if this adjective do exist) background with rarest imperfection than those images.

Is there an easy way to find out the license of an image? I tried tinyeye and it found several results used by different websites, so not sure if I can assume its alright to use for commercial use or not.

I've tried scouring flickr and places like http://www.sxc.hu/ for free photos but I cant find anything as suitable as this image (correct colours etc).

Hi

I want to display a video on a website as part of the banner, so I want it to run continuously without any control, much like it would in Flash.

The video is a royalty free stock video purchased from Fotolia.

I thought about doing this via YouTube but have 2 concerns:

1. Whether licensing permits you to publish on YouTube

2. Whether I can get rid of the controls and have it autoplay continuously

So I've been looking into embedding the video using HTML5, and I've been reading the instructions from Dive Into HTML5 about videos, and I'm panicking about this H.264 codec. If you are just displaying a single video on your website, would this be free from H.264 licensing? I can't seem to find any info about using it in this simple way.

Any advice would be very much appreciated, or any suggestions/recommendations about the best way to do this.

Thanks

I have been developing interest in photography and I have decided to give it a go. Just a hobby, really, nothing more.

I have made some researches, but to be honest, I have no idea what to look for in a camera.

I have found this one, for example http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-EF-50-1-8-Lens/dp/B00005K47X

Good? Bad? What shall I look for?

Hi guys,

I have launched a free section within my own site http://www.vectorella.com/category/free-vectors.html where you can download vectors and icons..

Unlike many other sites which feature other artist's stolen work, these vectors on my site are all created by me and are %100 legally safe to use in commercial projects..

The free section will be growing If enough people supports it..

On the other hand, in case you are already purchasing my work from stock sites you already know, this is the cheapest place you can get them as there is no middlemen..

I hope this will be useful for many!

Hi I know this is really cheeky but does anyone have a subscription to Fotolia stock library?

I already have a Fotolia account and have sourced various photos for a project last year and for whatever reason they seem to have vanished off my Mac after I upgraded (

Basically I need about 40 photos and can't afford to buy them again or subscribe again, so I wondered If I could be cheeky and sort someone out with a drink for downloading a few at a time from their account if they're not using up their monthly quota...

Anyway, if anyone could help me out, I'd be grateful if you could private message me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

I'm a relative newbie to all of this so any advice or help is very welcome ! I am starting a fashion/travel website and I need images for the site. I really need a few hundred images for destinations etc.. and i know this could be costly so I want to get some low cost or free ones . I have trawled the net about what is free and not for commercial use but I'm still a little confused.

Is there one image website where i coild sign up for say 200 images and just pay once or what would be best for me ? My budget is not huge under £ 200 is that feasable? I just don't want to get sued by anyone !

Also, Shouldn't my web designer be able to upload from the stock stie I choose or do I have to download a save them for him?

Thanks a mill !

I work for a company as a general IT guy, I'm in charge of the website etc.

I inherited the website from another web design company who had designed the website before i started working for this company. I've developed the website but kept aspects of the old design like the images and content.

This morning we received a notice of copyright infringement form Getty Images demanding £1.6k if we could not prove we had the license. I contacted the web design company and luckily they said the image was downloaded elsewhere and not from getty images and that if getty want to discuss further they should contact them instead of us.

Can they really just demand money like that? Dont they have to ask us to remove the image first and charge us if we refuse?

And how did they know that the image belongs to them? How did they find the image? If what the other design company is saying is true, then I dont think they should go around issuing fines when the image could have been downloaded from another site.

Bit of a scary situation for a beginner!

Hi,

already posted got no replies but under further investigation I found some free or cheap stock phot sites but I 'm not sure if I still need to buy under extended licence? I will be producing an app to accompany the website and so it would be for commercial use. Can anyone tell me if I will have o buy the more expensive extended licence or not ? I can't see how I will afford a few hundred photos at that price ??!!

Any advice ?

Cheers P
