Photography and Stock Imagery

i have some present day photos (taken this weekend) of a mockup of the 1952 Helsinki olympics and i was wondering would using a lomo action in photoshop give the right feel for 1950s photos? i realise the camera wasn't made until '82 (?) but am i right in thinking the off colours, vignetting and light leaks would (or could) be typical of a normal colour camera of the day? i have been toying with a vintage filter but it looks a bit too wartime. thanks for any help p.s. i can't really any upload the photos i've taken as i don't have permission to release them before the film of the event has been done (i'm the photographer but the film maker asked me not to pre-…

Hello If I built a website for the purpose of information/fun and affiliate marketing, I’m assuming that I wouldn’t be allowed to use just any pictures that I find online? I’m also assuming that as it might be possible to make a few pennies from the affiliate links I would be classed as commercial and be charged accordingly? Is there a guide to the rules anywhere (or what phrase should I Google to find one?) so I know what I can and can’t do as the last thing I want is to get a solicitor’s letter!? Thanks. Beth.

I found this site to be nice, and it's really easy to find/search and download the things you want. Also has a nice wordpress and joomla themes category. Has anyone else noticed how over priced stock imagery and vector based objects are?

I've new to web designing, and I want to use iStock to get images to use on websites(background images, banners, etc), but I discovered that iStock is not free, you need to buy credits, if im correct. Are there any websites, similar to iStock, where I can obtain such images(royalty free) for free? Thanks.

I've been a web developer for a while now and have recently gone into partnership with a photographer with the idea of persuading businesses to use 360 interactive images rather than their normal flat photos. Previously, one of the main concerns was that page load times were putting customers off but I think broadband speeds are now generally high enough to make it feasible. Hi all, I was taking a look at one of the "free images" directories (forwebdesigners.com) which lists a load of places to source stock images, but there's something niggling me that I'm hoping you might be able to share your experiences on. I've always been a bit skepitcal with using "free images" as you can never be sure as to where they have come from in the first place and I would hate to get caught up or for any clients to get caught up in all the copyright issues. I have been scouring the web all day getting boggled by copyright legislation, extended licenses etc etc to find the cheapest paid stock image resource in order to keep my costs and pricing low. Major headache now!! I came across Photl.com ... seem to have been around since 2009 but I haven't seen them mentioned anywhere so far, perhaps you have or do use them? The site offers free images for non-commercial use, you can buy a commercial license for an image for $1 (even though they are based in London?) or cheaper if you buy bulk credits. What I found interesting though, if not slightly confusing…

This site (click) have a great range of royalty free icons and clipart stock images. Not sure if someone has mentioned this site here before.. but I love it and use it a lot. Also found GraphicRiver through this site, which I've used and found really great. Lots of PS vectors and things available there.

I am quite new here and I was surprised when I saw forum directory dedicated to stock photos. There is one question left - why are the same photos by the same author differently priced at different sites? For instance, I found he same photo at 2 photostocks, but the price differs: http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-12607386-music.php http://depositphotos.com/3389403/stock-photo-Music.php At depositphotos 1 credit is 1 dollar, at iStock 1 credit is from 1.20 to 1.50, which means that the same picture costs 6 dollar for max size at depostitphotos and at least 2 times more at iStock (12 or 15 dollars). About two years ago I have to admit I fell fowl of this issue with a client. They supplied an image for their web site from their marketing agency and I believed it was theirs and not from elsewhere. For a project at work am looking at designing a front cover for a newsletter/brochure and the boss wants the text "2010" to be made up of pictures of various 2010 events (i.e Cameron/Clegg, World Cup, Ryder Cup, etc etc) .. in fact 16 images in total. Am talking to Reuters Images and Corbis Images but prices are quite high considering the use of the photos. Anyone know of any other sites out there offering images of new items etc ???

I am setting up what will eventually be a commercial site about London. Not living nearby, I need to get a handful of images for use on the site.(scenic shots, perhaps of a few of the main tourist spots) Looking up free images on Google, brings up vast numbers of msites, but the licence agreements are a bit puzzling to the newcomer. Any advice would be most welcome. I suppose I could take an overnight bus or train to London (from Newcastle) and spend the day taking my own photos. Kind regards !

For a while now magazines have been giving away free stockimages on disc. I have read licenses before and although it says 'free' on the cover they are for personal use only and not for commercial. Are there any magazines that offer free commercial stockimages for commercial use? Or is there nothing like this?

Hi there, I would like to add some images to my website, I have 3 small images that I would like to add next to each other horizontal. I wish to add a coloured border around them and then place them side by side and then add them as one whole picture to my website images folder.
