My other half has been doing alot of phototaking soon, and ive agreed to build a little website to show off her photos, but she wants to be able to put a sample watermark on them, to stop people just taking.

 

The big problem ive got, is i dont have one, and have no idea how to use gimp/photoshop, so if there anywhere that you can get a watermarked "sample" image that you can just copy onto the pictures?

Just use the text tool (looks like a T) and set the opacity down low? It'd be alot simpler that finding a a sample image to past over, there's probably some around the internet though.

I've made a tutorial on just that topic a long time ago, see "Adding Signatures". But as Bocaj says, just using the text tool can be sufficient, but I'd also add a drop shadow, too, just to make it harder for thieves to PhotoShop it out. What some people do is, make that copyright signature or logo really big, almost filling up the whole picture, but dropping the opacity down to something like 10%-ish. I'm sure there's a way to do it in Gimp. You can also get LightRoom and PhotoShop for 30 day trial if you want to play around with those, too.
