Is Magento a Good Platform for Startups?

Featured Replies

Hello Friends,

I want to start a new business and build an e-commerce website. I have heard many positive things about Magento. However, I am not sure whether it is feasible for Startups or not? Can anyone help me with this?

I'd say whether or not it's worth doing so highly depends on budget. Magento is a powerful platform (albeit somewhat convoluted) but if you're going to get a Magento build, it's worth doing it properly - and that's gonna cost.

That's not to say you and your team don't have the capacity to do so yourselves.

What's the startup type?

Exactly as above.

All down to time, money, skillset etc

Dont discount any of the alternatives until you have looked into them and tested them where possible. Some of the hosted solutions are very very good and remarkably cost effective.

Hello Friends,

Magento is a great 'all singing all dancing' e-commerce cms, it is fully featured and is set out to make selling very easy, the question you have to ask, is not if magneto is any good, because it is, but is it right for your circumstances. Unless you have a large amount products you constantly add/remove change prices, edit images etc, then it might be over the top as its complex nature is to make complex things simpler, but it will make simple things harder.

Yes, Magento is definitely more flexible and easy to use framework for E-commerce website. It has very well developed and lots themes and extension to make your work more easy.

Perfect platform for eCommerce and Marketplace

This is definitely one of the best platform for startups. As a startup, you'll definitely plan to expand in the future. The other CMS platforms are good as well. However, for large scale business, this is a better platform. Moreover, switching the platforms will be quite tiresome in the future. So, it's better to start of with the best. Additionally, creating an online marketplace is even easier for with Magento. There are extensions available for the same.
