June 2, 201016 yr Hello everyone! Thought I'd open a topic about the world cup! I'll start off by asking "Do you think Capello has named the best squad?" Personally I think Walcott should be on the plane - I know he's not great at the final ball - but would be great to bring on towards the end of a game to run at the defenders and cause some problems. Also "who do you think will win the competition?" I'd like to see England do it of course but I think we rely too much on Rooney. And when he is having an off game - England have an off game. So my money would be on (other than England) Spain.
June 2, 201016 yr You can never rule out Brazil or Germany at major competitions, Spain although they are probably one of the favourites can implode at competitions. As for England on their day could probably beat anyone but I doubt they will win.
June 2, 201016 yr I don't think England have a hope in hell of winning it. Back 5 way too dodgy. Johnson is not international class RB, does a good job mind going forward but is not aware enough defensively. Speaking as a Chelsea fan Terry will be exposed by the top class forwards with pace. Ferdinand is not fully fit imo. Ash is ace mind. I could go on a rant about the midfield and forwards too but it will fall on deaf ears. My money is either Spain or Brazil. Edit: I'm Irish so that automatically voids my opinion
June 3, 201016 yr I would have put a lot of money on Argentina winning it, especially with Messi, let's not beat around the bush, he IS the best player out there at the moment. But I don't think Maradonna has the capability to take them to the final, with strange moves like omitting Cambiasso from the squad? Who has a fantastic season with Inter Milan?! It makes the mind wonder... Flipside, I think England have a very good chance, but like most chances we get, we fluff them and end up paying the price. I'm not suprised about Walcott being dropped, he is nothing more than a greyhound and doesn't really have any gift with a football, just pure pace. I think Milner has a chance to shine, and I pray Joe Cole has a chance to give England back the flair he once gave them. I have an awful feeling Rooney will finish the tournament goal-less. Nevertheless, I hope our boys will do us pround in South Africa in 8 days time.
June 3, 201016 yr Ivory Coast to reach the semi-finals or better - I got a massive 17-1 for that - they have a real chance, even with the group of death!!
June 3, 201016 yr I would say Holland, as they have a fresh RVP up top and if he hits the ground running he could easily be the top scorer in the competion. But as mentioned above their are always the normal national sides that will go far in the competition. terydinho - Ivory coast is a good shout with Eboube, Kolo, Yaya, Kalou and Drogba in the team.
June 3, 201016 yr what??! no mention of '66 yet? lol Oh how I cringe when that is brought up on TV. Seen it twice now, you'd have thought they would have got over it and stopped comparing to what was really a fluke win. Times have changed and back then there was a far bigger pool of English talent for the national squad. Now most premier teams are made up of the world cup opposition. Always a pleasure to see Brazil play though, true artistry.
June 8, 201016 yr Author Now with Rio out - i'm not looking forward to the world cup as much as I was before I can't see Terry and Carragher dealing with any type of pace - like Torres, or anyone that quick!
June 8, 201016 yr You can say that we may be a little dodgy at the back with right and left backs that are better going forward then defending, but Brazil got away with that for years. Lets just hope we can out score anyone.
June 8, 201016 yr I think that Spain, Brazil, England and Argentina are the favourites at the World Cup!
June 8, 201016 yr yep, so far the odds are: http://world-cup.betting-directory.com/odds.php and someone may know this off the top of their head, is it possible that North Korea will play South Korea. That could be an interesting match!
June 8, 201016 yr Duran Duran are to release a World Cup Song ... 'His name is Rio, and he watches from the stands'
June 9, 201016 yr Author Duran Duran are to release a World Cup Song ... 'His name is Rio, and he watches from the stands' lol
June 9, 201016 yr I wonder how much Nike paid Ronaldinho for the world cup adverts considering he didn’t make the Brazil squad.
June 9, 201016 yr yep, so far the odds are: http://world-cup.betting-directory.com/odds.php and someone may know this off the top of their head, is it possible that North Korea will play South Korea. That could be an interesting match! well but I don't think that North Korea will have chances against Brazil, Portugal and the Ivory Coast. but yes, it would be an interesting match!
June 10, 201016 yr I said a long time ago that I think Argentina will win.. I hope they do just so that I can boast about being right. xD On the other hand.. of course I'd love England to win, but.. let's be serious for a second.. that isn't going to happen. I'll literally buy a hat and eat it if they win. Someone can hold me to that. Ooh and have you heard the song by Dizzee Rascal / James Corden? It made me laugh a lot. And I LOOOOVE Shout by Tears For Fears. So I kinda.. shamefully.. dig it. lol
June 10, 201016 yr I woke up this morning, gazed at the awful weather outside, bought The Sun, turned to back page, it read "24 Hours to go til the word cup"....And then it hit me. I was overwhelmed by a feeling like no other. I suddenly realised, I've got World Cup fever!!! A whole month of not just watching England play, but watching every other team play, it's great! I'm officially excited!!!
June 10, 201016 yr well but I don't think that North Korea will have chances against Brazil, Portugal and the Ivory Coast. but yes, it would be an interesting match! that's true in that group. A bit unfair really. Still a match between the two Koreas and plenty of subs!
June 10, 201016 yr Referring to South Korea against North Korea: it would be the same interesting match like the US and the Iran perhaps at France 1998.
June 10, 201016 yr "Do you think Capello has named the best squad?" No, he should have named Spain. LOL.
June 10, 201016 yr ^lol Rooting for England, I've faith in Capello's choice as he's has more credientials than previous coaches even though some of his choices are bizarre and contradicting of some of his statements. That said Spain will win providing they don't choke.
June 10, 201016 yr Being an Arsenal fan I would have liked to see Walcott play, but we need our team chemistry to be right and if he wasn't doing what he was told then it's probably for the best! I reckon we have a good chance, so do the bookies, but Football is a crazy game sometimes, anything could happen, looking forward to the first game
June 11, 201016 yr In my office sweep I have: France (I can't bring myself to will France to win ) Algeria (no hope) North Korea (I wonder if their team will do that goose step thing???) IMHO England has the best manager but the players are too club focussed. I agree we have a flakey defence but having said that... ...COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!
June 12, 201016 yr The USA goal was horrific to watch. I'm not even into football that much, but god I felt the pain watching that ball crawl past the line.
June 12, 201016 yr I didn't actually get to see the England goal. Some jerk at ITV HD pressed the adverts button and once we got back to the match everyone was celebrating!!! England had the match. Some great passing. But I do think Crouch was brought on too late. Never mind. No injuries so we can fight another day!!!
June 12, 201016 yr I agree, Crouch was left on the sidelines way too long. Also, if we can't beat USA, we're pretty much screwed. I think most people knew that anyway. On a side note.. am I the only person who was getting REALLY annoyed at how much the Americans - including their manager - were spitting? Disgusting.
June 12, 201016 yr Q: Why aren't the England football team allowed to own a dog? A: Because they can't hold on to a lead. Sorry but I am from Scotland Oh I do hope England do well
June 14, 201016 yr Yep that was painful. Obviously it was an awful mistake by Green, but I didn't think it would be an issue and thought we would easily score another goal to make it 2-1. Lot's of players having good games, at least. Oh well, roll on the next game
June 14, 201016 yr @ NeRo: I don't think that we should laugh about that. But I'd like to know what the Hammers-fans are thinking about Green.
June 15, 201016 yr Ive just had this text through: Condoms are now available in coloured, flavoured, ribbed or Robert Green..... The Robert Green are extra slippy and your guaranteed not to catch anything....
June 15, 201016 yr I didn't actually get to see the England goal. Some jerk at ITV HD pressed the adverts button and once we got back to the match everyone was celebrating!!! England had the match. Some great passing. But I do think Crouch was brought on too late. Never mind. No injuries so we can fight another day!!! No injuries but King is out for 3 weeks from a knock is he not? or was that the after match party????? England, judging by the preformance on saturday, are most likely to be third, ie knocked out, of the group! They have no passion, no willingness to take people on etc. I may be an England fan but sadly, they lack everything. The team should want to put the shirt on not be bothered about how much they get for it....................... Same at club level! Some players earn more a WEEk than the PM gets a YEAR. yes some would think it is deserved but if you got £125,000 a week to run around a football pitch, even if you play rubbish or score 15 goals in the match, I am sorry they should cap the salaries and then see how it works!!!!! I play football for the fun, if I got a professional contract (I aren't gonna, but if..), I would ask for no more than £750 a week, That's nearly £40,000 a year. If you get £125,00 a week (£6,625,000 a year). Now do you think for doing something they enjoy doing it is worth that much?? This world cup is relying too much on certain players, not teams. Portugal will be rubbish if Ronaldo doesn't play well, England will do rubbish unless Rooney plays well, Spain - Torres, Italy - Cameronessi. I thought it was a team game!! PS I am not a Man U fan but I am sick of hearign about how Man U did/did not replace him this year and that's why they didn't win the title.......Again one man, as good as he is, won't win the title!!
June 16, 201016 yr No, he should have named Spain. LOL. Edit: No, he should have named Spain Switzerland. LOL.
June 18, 201016 yr Crunch night for England tonight so once again... COME ON ENGLAND!!! :clapping: Not even sure I'm happy I had the free-time to watch it tonight What did you think?
