pippin62 got a reaction from rbrtsmith in CSS layout techniques: do I need them and where do I use them?Hi NullDrone, I see that Meyers book is four years old now. That's ancient history in web development. For example faux columns will only work with fixed width designs, and most websites now need to be responsive. I'd either find a newer book or look for up-to-date online tutorials.

pippin62 got a reaction from mrludable in Meta viewport queryI found what I was looking for eventually. If anyone is interested it's this:
<meta id="Viewport" name="viewport" content="width=500, initial-scale=1, user-scalable=yes"> <script> if (screen.width > 500) { var mvp = document.getElementById('Viewport'); mvp.setAttribute('content','width=device-width, initial-scale=.75, user-scalable=yes'); } </script> -

pippin62 reacted to notbanksy in Web design 'rock stars'I'm not sick of them. But I did vote yes. Because I'm sick of the sycophantic attitude toward them by the community at large. It's so strange to me that a design community should be so competitive and looking for peer approval all the time. My main concern is that so many designers spend more time making their designs impressive in the eyes of other designers rather than trying to present their client's message in the most effective way possible. And that's what I'm sick of. Would I like to be as good a designer as Jon Hicks? Of course I would. At the expense of my clients? Definitely not.

pippin62 got a reaction from smoothonline in Would be grateful for some feedback on our new logoTypographic logos can work really well but I would look again at the spacing of the letters and the vertical space between the words. There seems too much space between the two words and not enough between the letters and the horizontal lines. Print it out and turn it upside down to get another view of the spacing. Typography is a real craft and difficult to get 'right'. It's about subtle use of space. Take a look at well known brands to see how the experts do it.

pippin62 got a reaction from amodi in Drop down menu flickerHi
I don't know if this will help, but if you are using css hover, then you will need both normal and hover states to be in the same image file and alter the background position on the hover state.
