  1. If you have ssh access you can try running: mysqlcheck --repair --databases db_name What engine is your DB using, InnoDB or MySAM ?
  2. Agh youtube, no. As many people said around here, it can teach you bad practices with which you'll get stuck with forever and you'll miss the biggest skills that are important in programming, "problem solving" and intuition. I've learned the basics, like syntax and how the whole process of a web app works (server side -> client side and so on) after that I gave myself a homework, a big project that I knew I couldn't finish and it's over my skills. Just open the documentation, stackoverflow and start working, at first, you'll be reading the documentation for 30 minutes just to write one line of code but soon enough you'll be on your way. Why I like this way ? because like @@rbrtsmith said, when you are a programmer you're going to constantly learn new things, new frameworks, languages, design patterns, libraries if you don't have a feel of how that new framework works in the first 5 minutes after looking at their documentation you're going to have a bad time. So I'd say that a good programmer is not made of how many programming languages or framework he knows but how good are your problem solving skills and your intuition.
  3. Well, not bad, but not good either, they just look like common templates with text and images replaced. They're easy to spot because you haven't worked on the details, blend each section with each other. The logo on the first site it doesn't blend at all either. sorry.
  4. Whole page is 7Mb, definitely not good, especially mobile device, just think loading that on a mobile data plan. You can optimise images without loosing any noticeable quality.

  6. It's your decision, though, from the point of view of usability it's a harmful thing and if you look at other sides with big headers on their front page they all have that behaviour.
  7. I'm going to disagree with that statement, for example this site is pretty fast http://www.nytimes.com/

  9. Yes, the large image in the header. If you're attached to it, maybe shrink it by 50% on secondary page ?
  10. Looks good, just one thought, don't you think it would be better to remove the Hero section on all pages other than the homepage ? It doesn't bring any value and takes a lot of space.

  13. Hey guys, not sure you've heard yet but next Tuesday Microsoft will drop support for all IE versions except the latest https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/WindowsForBusiness/End-of-IE-support How happy that makes you ? or better yet, how about sharing your most awful experience in making your website compatible with older IE versions?
  14. I'm pretty sure you can find a responsive Wordpress theme like brainpickings on themeforest. ~$60 up to now. After that hire a small agency or developer to install, configure, secure and adjust to your design needs. $2000 should suffice. If you decide to go that way, for that budget my agency can help you out.
  15. I see you guys don't like Wordpress, next time, if they pay well, just send them my way )

  17. How do you see that this will help your business ? The whole goal of having subscribers/likes/follows is to promote your services to the people that like your page and send your content to your feed, but if someone who doesn't care about your services likes your page he will be just a number.
  18. If that's the case, then yeah, SCSS would be a better option, I wasn't aware of BS dropping LESS support
  19. I think you're going into the wrong direction. In order to make it easier to change bootstraps style, use the LESS version.
