Yes you're right... i'm on a steep learning curve too. I'm currently realising the link between design and psychology. Making it clear which elements take priority on a site is key to a good design. Many colours represent things that we associate with everyday life i.e. red = alert, white = clarity/calmness etc. Giving a button a colour that stands out such as yellow or pink, like you have done instantly draws attention to that element. If you draw attention to the right areas of your design at the right time this becomes a very effective way of manipulating the user to perform certain actions such as contacting you or finding out more information about a product/service. Anyway, i wont bore you... but thats what i'm learning. My suggestion would be to not have a contact form background at all... unless you have a good reason for it to be there.

Hey Dap Glad to hear the background images look ok on your 27 incher. Thanks for that Kraken link, that will be really useful for this and future projects. Slowly getting the size of the site down... without effecting the quality!

Hey Thanks for your feedback. I'm looking to sort the load time out. It is mainly to do with the background images. I'm going to resize them as much as i can without losing too much quality. I was a bit reluctant to do this as i was concerned that they would look terrible on larger screens. Bobby - I would ideally like the Profile Info slide in div to slide back out when the user clicks outside of it. Gonna be working on this to make it more user friendly. Dap - thanks for the link. I've also had a go at 3D animation! Its been fun but needs refining... check out the profile info image if you have a min... Thanks for your time guys.

Hey, I like your concepts and your use of JQuery. I do feel the site lacks finesse and style. I would keep the layout and ideas you have as they are effective but you need to focus on refining the site by making it more appealing visually. There are also a few spacing issues and certain elements clash such as the contact form background. If you are going for a 'modern' style you need to keep the whole site modern looking. Your coding is not too bad... Overall, it's a good starting point with potential but more work/time is required to bring it up to scratch and to refine it. I hope this helps.

Lol... thanks 4li4s. Yes... i totally agree! The sounds are really annoying me too! I will be changing them to a deeper, kinda swipe sound that will be more subtle and less annoying! I'm possibly gonna use this site for my future portfolio so i wanted one site to have sounds to show that i can do this if need be. I know alot of people find them annoying but I like sounds if they are done right... reminds me of a playstation game i guess. The profile info is there for video projects. Alot of the time TV/video producers would like to book a specific person/profile. They also need to know costume sizes for some bookings so this just covers all that. I'm thinking of having a profile pic with no background that rotates on hover. Hoping this will bring a 3D dimension to the site. Gonna have a look for a plug in that does this when i have time... if anyone knows of something like this and would like to share... please do!

Hey, I've been having some fun creating a sliding site for my hobby - B-Boying/Breakdancing. I'm sure that what i have done is not all all SEO friendly or the right technique but i quite like the result... i.e. the horizontal slide effect. it also works pretty well on the iPad. A couple of things need to be done still, such as replacing one of the background images, working a bit more on the responsive side of things and the profile image!! etc, etc... I have studied this a little more and cleaned up my code as suggested. I will also look into the minified option. Weedy - Thanks for reading through the site - your time is appreciated. I am going to lighten the gold font on the drop down menu as suggested and will look into the css regarding the letter spacing. i was not aware that you could do this. the content was written by a third party so i will ask if Paul would like me to change a few bits as i think you have a very valid point. I have a little more work to do on the site yet but hopefully i'll get there soon! I have learnt so much from this project and your feedback has contributed to this greatly. Many thanks,

Hey dap, Thanks for your feedback. I did advise him that the date and time was not needed but he insisted that this was something he wanted to give users the impression that the site was up to date - think of that what you will ! Personally i would not have had the date or the bookmark option (as most people know how to do this anyway) but these things were requested by Paul (and both require js!) and i guess at the end of the day it is his website and he had his reasons. Thank you very much for letting me know about the I bar... i will look into that.

I like it. It's clean and minimalistic. Very neat and tidy with attention to detail such as the scroll to top button animation, the fading elements and the custom scroll bar. My only criticism is the responsive menu. It looks like it needs a little more work. A good job so far in my opinion.

Hey, I have been creating and updating my own small business website for the last few years and someone i know asked me to create a website for them. He is starting a new consultancy business and i suggested that i could do a site for him for free so i could learn more about web design as i am naturally drawn to it as a hobby (at present - hoping to one day go pro!). It has really stretched me as my small business is entertainment related so i could be more creative and work with graphics which is what i enjoy most but as a financial website the site needed to be functional, user friendly (majority probably 30+ years), content heavy, SEO friendly, print friendly, responsive, etc. I was used to making a creative, graphic based site with a few nice JQuery bits and bobs! Anyway, i am slowly getting the site finished in my spare time and i feel i have nearly completed it. I would really appreciate it if any of you have some suggestions / positive criticism to help me improve the site, particularly on my coding as i know it is a bit weak. I have yet to finish the following: Search feature - any help on this would be great. The slider on the home page some of the services content lay out. Hey Sarah I really like your site. The content is direct, to the point and well written. The design is clean, easy to use and functional. I like your drop down menu for smart-phones. It's similar to the one I use. My only criticism which is probably more personal preference is the padding left side and right side on the footer. I would have given it more space either side to be online with the 'Featured Work' paragraph. My favourite bit is the dynamic content on the home page with the cuppa - looks a bit like my desk atm! Anyway, great site- well done.

Hey I have recently designed some websites for my small businesses using Dreamweaver CS5. One of my friends has now asked me to create him a website which is great. The only thing is that i have always created my own sites so i just updated the site using Dreamweaver. He would like a CMS to use so he can update his site himself plus it saves me having to do it in future! My question is... what is the best CMS to use for sites created in Dreamweaver? i don't want to use Wordpress or Drupal or anything where i'm restricted to a template etc. I want to create his website in Dreamweaver and then use a CMS so he can edit the <p> tags and headings himself. Is there any CMS that do this? Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks, Daniel

Nice site - I really like it. It's clean, functional and I like the JQuery used. Only thing i would change is the spacing on the 'a little about us' section. I think it would make the text look a little less cramped if you added more padding. Maybe use the green on the 'what we do' and 'why choose us' headings to break up the text visually. I think the advantage to having your site all on one page with the scrolling anchors is that you can spread the content out. Anyway, thats my thoughts. A great site overall.

I really like it. Modern, clean and functional. My only criticism would be the logo. I prefer more simple logos but i guess thats personal opinion.

Hey Danny I really like your style. Clean, calming and you can see that you are great with graphic design. Something i'm learning at the moment is functionality and ensuring that a site is suitable for the users. If you are someone with a passion for design / graphics and making beautiful sites, it is easy to forget this and you end up focusing on the look of the site more than the more important elements. As you probably know, SEO is also a big factor when designing a site and Google loves text content so i'm at the stage where i'm trying to find the balance between a site that looks beautiful and a site that is well designed (in regards to SEO, call to action and functionality etc). To be honest, i have a lot to learn yet and am still a beginner but thought i'd share where i'm at Love the JQuery touches (fade in, scroll etc) and your code looks clean and well organised. Anyway good luck with it all. Daniel

Some great points - thank you. The venue address on the contact form would be very useful. Yeah, I have noticed that the Nivo slider loads the images and then resizes them once the page is fully loaded. Not sure why this is! I have asked for assistance on their forum but have had no response yet. Will also be working on the location keywords as suggested like Beat Boxers London etc. Thanks for your time 4D.

Hey 4D Thanks for your comment. Please do feel free to suggest improvements on the SEO side as it's far from a strong point of mine! I have touched a little on FAQ on the contact page (right side) and we tend not to have pricing on the site as every booking is unique so the fees do range dramatically depending on a number of factors. It is very hard to even provide an estimate without discussing basic details. I agree with you on the images breaking up the text. I'm in the process of trying to figure out an effective way of doing this do will have a think when i got some time and will see would like to know your thoughts of what i come up with. Anyway, thanks very much for your feedback, i really appreciate your help with this and i'm beginning to see why you all love web design - it's very addictive!
