Personally I see a lot of PHP developers working with it and when you have issues due to your most basic of plugins/modules no longer working with your updated Drupal then you can be stuck. It is always best to go with what you know best and then build your skills up in things if you are able too but when it comes to clients websites if it goes wrong and you have no idea on how to fix someone else's module/plugin then it won't look good. So when you say you are using a regular server do you have access to the 'ROOT' so you can login to WHM in this format of URL: http://0.0.0.0:2086/ ? (Of course '0.0.0.0' to be replaced with your servers IP or domain).

Are you on a dedicated/vps or a shared/reseller service? as the backup options here will be different depending on what level access you have. If you are a cPanel client user then you can use the cPanel Backup Wizard but your hosting company should have at least weekly/monthly backups of your site. NOTE: As you are trying to do always keep your own backup! If you are a root user (i.e. have your own VPS or Dedicated server) then you can login to WHM and use cPanel's new backup systems which are much better than the old ones they recently moved from. You can still access the old backup systems, they have just been renamed to 'Legacy Backups' Hope this helps but let us know which level user on cPanel you are and I am sure some documentation can be found

Drupal is good as long as you know what modules you want, unlike WordPress where you get a WYSIWYG editor and image uploading systems etc built-in you have to install a lot of modules from the community to get these things working and some times it can be a lot of pain for some if you want something that can quickly be enabled straight out of the box. Recently our team found SilverStripe CMS (http://www.silverstripe.org/) and this is a very nice CMS to work with and code for.. Also they have most basic modules included in the core script and there are modules by the community that are both free or paid that you can install. Hope this helps but I am sure a full time Drupal developer will be able to shed some more light on Drupal

I do not think Heart Internet will budge on this one.. I do have one thing you can look into, if you can get SSH access for your account you could run a WGET on the file and transfer it to your Heart Internet hosting account. You would need to first upload the file via FTP or something to a website then use the WGET command in SSH to transfer your file from server to server. Just an idea you might want to explore with Heart Internet. Good luck though!

Have you got Google Analytics installed to see where your visitors are coming from or if they are actually from countries that would order from your UK based site? What is your marketing plan? In regards to your site I would look at updating it a little as based on design I do not think I would trust the look of it. I know never judge a book by its cover but when it comes to websites I really do. Just think you have to compete with companies such as Amazon, PC World, Adobe (the main corp site) and so on... Your design needs to reflect your status here. I am sure others will give you some ideas on this as the designers here are very good You might want to look at selling on sites such as Amazon / eBay to promote the name and also look into Google Products as this can list you on their site and get extra visitors. This is my starting comments and sure will have more but thought this might get us started to helping you with your website

I wouldn't go by that list... all the companies in that list have a not so good hosting rep. Many of them are owned by a single large company or are mainly domain registrars that offer hosting services (with backing of 3rd party companies). Here are a few companies that you could speak with that would be able to offer what you need: - EUKHost (UK) - VivioTech (US) - CWCS (UK - Would provide custom quote/contract for you) - WiredTree (US) Hope this helps

I would look for something like: "Managed Linux VPS Hosting" or just "Managed VPS" (SSH should always be included with a VPS) In regards to control panel, cPanel is normally an extra as it requires a cPanel license (as it's paid software) so this is normally shown as an addon to a VPS service. There are many control panels that are free but just check on the VPS details page of the company you are looking into for more information.

@CHEWX I am liking your reply, you went through everything haha You are right about hosting and comparing it to car insurance as company reviews can only tell you so much but unlike car insurance you will be using the companies hosting services constantly unlike car insurance... unless you crash a lot and like to make claims I would recommend getting a list of companies that you think that will fit your needs (a short list if you like) and post them here for people to go through and offer their views. That way you might get some more information and be able to pick the right company first time

Yep that might be it, we have done this for our clients before... GIT and SubVersion etc are all becoming very common so most hosting companies will allow server side software or a limited SSH to be enabled on an account to access them.

Good point, but really you want staging and live to be different instances/servers and guess budget can get in the way of this. I was assuming @CHEWX wanted to push to GIT Master from local and then pull down (Update) the live server... Might be mistaken here.

I do not think you need a dedicated server as your current provider suggested and I would agree with your title that a VPS might be your best bet. On the other hand some shared/reseller hosting providers do allow what you require to connect to GIT on a limited access SSH.
