Joomla/CMS custom design and pricing.
Different CMS's are good for different things. you have to learn which ones are best suited for each job for you and most importantly for your client. It's hard to say how much, there is a big range that you can charge for, and lots of little jobs in it which can take up a lot of time when you put them together. What sort of work do you think you will be doing, and what sort of price do you think, and i will let you know if i agree.

Depends on how complex the mods are you need to do. Joomla is p*** easy when you know what your doing.

How much should a CMS driven site cost?
As sunwukung said your going to have to use feed's to get the data from cnet etc.. this may mean you will have to have an agreement from them to get the feed. If you want to make this work, it's going to be a very big project and will need on going work not just an intial start up. Best of luck, but i think it's best you get the guys down who have quoted you, and get the prices broken down.. anything under £5,000 is definatly not worth it.

How much should a CMS driven site cost?
It really depends on what exactly you want to do. because you have been very brief on what you want. i can only presume it will do something like rightmove. Mainly a search driven site which you can adjust to suit your needs and to get a better search. These things cost BIG money and are in consistent development to stay on top of the competition and to improve the experience for users. From a good company which will be using completely custom system could easily run costs over £10,000. If you can give us some more information on what your aiming to do, and what sort of price range you have been given, along with a detailed list as to what that price includes. That last part is crucial in this size of a project, or any project.

Adobe Contribute Question?
from my memory of using Contribute around 4- 5 years ago. It is an off shot of Dreamweaver, which allows you to edit pages easily. 100% compatible with dreamweaver made sites and most others which aren't database driven.

Mac? Will i benefit?
- Not sure what OS X's base architecture has to do with it, down at the core level that hasn't changed for many years! - what stops your Mac from running Windows, or linux - all be it this may have a part to do in it, but it's debatable, as most of the time viruses don't target hardware but more software exploits, it's not the full truth. - Again exploits are generally at software level, and thus hardware isn't such a key factor. but i do know where your coming from with this point. - no argue with that. - Apple don't make most of the components, they just out source them from other companies and limit the parts, this means they control the quality.
