  1. no, sorry, its not. I wanted to see if I could do it my self, without wordpress. I know that wordpress is better, as it makes life a lot easier when doing this sort of thing, but I thought this would be better from a learning stand point.
  2. For me, I have the folder for my subdomain set up to be http://jackbliss.co.uk/blog/, so if you visit that it shows the exact same thing as when you are look at the subdomain. Can I just put the .htaccess file inside this folder? I don't seem to have a httpdocs folder in my root directory. Does it work if I just make one? I'm still kind of new to servers, I've never really touched a .htaccess before and I'm still learning. Sorry if I'm making any blaring mistakes.
  3. hmmm, it's still not working. Does it have to be in the root? If it helps, I'm trying to get http://blog.jackbliss.co.uk/page.php?p=15 to look like http://blog.jackbliss.co.uk/post/16/ or even better http://blog.jackbliss.co.uk/16/ Is this even possible?
  4. OK, thanks a lot, I'll try that out now.
  5. I just want to make sure I have this right... Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^display/(\w+)/$ post.php?p=$1 [nc]
  6. ok, that works perfectly. Thanks so much for your help!
  7. would that look anything like this: $display = explode("<!-- more -->", $bodytext); $bodytext = $display[0];
  8. Hello! I'm making a blog, and I want to be able to manually set a cutoff point. For example, in the post, you put a <!-- more -->, just like in wordpress, and then you use preg_replace or something to change that and everything after it into a single "...". At the moment, I'm using a simple substr, but I'm worried that that might cut off an <img /> or something like that. Any advice, tips, tutorial or just straight up code? Here's how I'm parsing the code atm: $bodytext = stripslashes($a["post"]); $bodytext = substr($bodytext, 0, 500); $bodytext = "$bodytext..."; $bodytext = preg_replace("/\n/", "<br />", $bodytext);
  9. its fine for me. it sounds like you're saving it as a .php, and thats the problem. Try running it through something like MAMP or XAMPP. It works as a .html on a mac using firefox 3.0.
  10. hahah! success! much obliged, sir.
  11. Hi, me again. Just trying to upload a .htaccess file to my site, but becuase the file starts with a full stop, its hidden. I've revealed it to the finder using the terminal command, but the file browser in firefox can't see it. What shall I do?

    yeah, i dont see what the problem is... in fact, I dont really understand what youre trying to do.
  13. for the borders, you need to set the border: none, rather then the outline. Looking at it in firebug shows you havent done this. You might just want to add this to the very bottom a img { border: none; } That might fix it.

    Yeah, just close off that #left.
  15. woops! got it. My password and username were wrong. I'd missread the files.
