Text is well too small Header is a mess - Logo poorly place. Building plan poorly aligned and typeface for header does not match the body. Reference Projects page - you have an orphan on the picture gallery caption What your customers say - Nothing. Not a good look. Line height is too small in general. Looks worst in some places. Seems to take a while to load (could be me though)

Your header bar is full width with the content central. As for repositioning the copyright line, you need to position the div named #copright in your CSS file.

In my opinion It's the present and for the forseeable future. Very popular at the moment and reasonably so. With the increase of smart phones and tablets it make sense to provide to the users on devices possible. I don't think any one can say or predict whether it will be here in the long term future, but at this moment in time yes it will be with us for a while.

Hi all, It's been a while since I've been on here and I'm sure things have changed a lot. Hopefully some of the old warriors are still on here. Hope everyone is good. Anyway enough of the small talk here's my deal; I have a task set for me which is non-changeable. No- I cannot use CSS3. Yes- it has to validate to XHTML 1.0 & CSS 2.1! I have produced Thumbnails, Sketches, Lo Fi Wireframes, Hi Fi Wireframes and of course the Screen Designs. The next step of course is for me to build the site however there are some tight restrictions which clash with the build ability of my site as mentioned above. I am using a white rectangular box with 6px round edges with a 4px outer glow on each edge for the content areas. The issues which are causing me problems when validating are: The way I produce the round edges with CSS The drop shadow/outer glow effect with CSS on these boxes So I've come up with a solution of slicing the Screen Design up into multiple images in Photoshop, saving these images to web to keep the file size down and setting as the background image for each relating div. It's worked and validated, but what I want to know is- Is there any other way of achieving this given my boundaries? And/or will this method cause me any problems..? Regards, Craig

Really like the design and as mentioned already the opacity works well. Only thing I can really pick at is the lack of green towards the bottom half, I feel like this sort of distances itself from the top half of the design because of this. Just needs a little hint of green down there IMO.

When using W3 Validation, do you girls and guys validate just your HTML? or CSS? or both? I validated all my HTML code so far but noticed my CSS was in a bit of a mess.. Input appriecated.

I've had the same crap experience from 1&1 and they are not worth the steam of your p***. There customer support is absolutely shocking. I bought a new domain name with them a while ago and after a week they hadn't set up the webspace for it properly still after 6 phone calls and various emails they told me that it was my coding. Which was in fact a simple redirect page which wasn't wrong at all. Move on to someone else, they are the worst.

No worries at all. Yes, I think it is an improvement, however I still think the logo and navigation could be made to stand out more as it kind of looks like it's molding into the background still. Maybe use the pale yellow used on the saucepan image on the right hand side as the background colour to sit behind the navigation and logo..?

Looks decent, I like the tail on the bottom right arrow. Hope you didn't get any inspiration from RBS? Have you got a design brief with this project?

In regards to your problem- did you double check all the images in the slider are the exact same dimensions? ..and in turn that your code matched this size? Sorry, slightly off topic but the last image used in your slider is low resolution and has become pixelated even on screen.

I think the colour scheme is OK, it's just the way in which it has been applied could be improved. The orange side box "cookery courses" stands out the most on the whole page. I think your logo at the top could be made a little bigger as can the top and bottom margins around the navigation. Because the oranges are the most vibrant colours, these parts really stand out more. Either doll these oranges down some, or make the other colours more vibrant to combat it. Just an opinion!

You could run a deal which offered a discount to businesses within certain postcodes for a set time period to generate interest and get the ball rolling so to speak, then word-of-mouth comes off the back of this..

I get lag from time to time, and it's my Wireless Router which needs me to install some updates. Then once it's done it's back up and running fine again. I notice it on download speeds the most. Tends to drop to a snails pace.

I use a Intel Core i5-760 Processor in my home rig. Pretty dated now though, still does the business with 8GB RAM.

I’m struggling to see the point of your moan. You’re upset because some people don’t do as a good as a job as you do and charge less money for their services. Isn’t that life? People have used examples of builders etc.. But isn’t this true in most lines of work? People want the best deal they can get for their money- naturally. Some people are happy to pay a bit more for a top notch service, others want the cheapest they can get- and usually expect miracles. Don’t get me wrong I can totally understand your annoyance with inexperienced people who sell people websites, which effectively reduces your pond of fish. But if people are willing to pay these people less money for less of a service- is it really the “young designevelopers” fault? Or is it the board that don’t do enough to support certified web designers? Or is it the customer’s fault that’s willing to pay someone’s son not a lot of money? Another thing I’d like to ask is where did you start? Did you never play around with a template? Mess around with some code, follow some online tutorials? Everyone has to start somewhere. If they love doing it then each to their own, but when a lot of people on here say “no qualifications are recognised” learn on your own, and that there’s no support for designers from the web standards lords then the young person is rather pushed into a corner. Pretty much like cutting their arms off then telling them to swim.

Thanks for your replies again guys, and for the explanation on the empty div tag. I have now implemented the code in your latest post Wickham and this works A-OK as described. The reason why I was pushing more towards a fixed size with bits getting cut off is because I wanted to streamline the layout so it was all evenly spaced, plus I know the images on the left hand side would always be the same size and the captions on the right will only be a small amount of text that should fit in the area allocated when fixed. However, in hind sight it is probably best to use the flexible height just in case some of the captions run longer then expected and it will auto adjust rather then me have to re-do the rigid code supporting it. So thanks for the heads up on that guys. As I final thought, I think this may be the ultimate solution and I will look into this at some point at the weekend when Im back at my desk, but for the time being I'm happy with what I've got and the progress made, but we will see. Knowing me, I will probably switch it all round again and implement the method below.. tweek tweek tweek lol Thanks all!
