  1. Hi all, Many websites articles have tags at the end of an article eg a wildlife blog article about pythons might have tags such as snakes, reptiles, carnivores etc - but suppose the blog also has a search function, a user could search for the word "reptiles" to find other articles about reptiles. So how are tags better than the search function ie if you have a search function why bother tagging your articles? Thanks...
  2. OK I found it = wp-admin/options-reading.php - the hacker changed the character encoding from UTF-8 to UTF-7.
  3. Hi all, my wordpress site has been hacked and the hacker has left the message +ADw-/title+AD4-Hacked By DR-MTMRD+ADw-DIV style+AD0AIg-DISPLAY: none+ACIAPgA8-xmp+AD4- U which I have since seen on other sites such as this and this. Luckily there doesn't seem to be too much damage yet but one thing is that there are now a lot of strange alphabet characters on the site but when I look in the database the strange characters are not there. For example Jägerstraße in the database displays on the website as Jägerstraße Léa in the database displays on the website as Léa So does Wordpress have some kind of character setting that might cause this or any other ideas please? Thanks
  4.    PhilW reacted to a post in a topic: How to start an online shop?
  5. OK thanks. I guess this is the kind of thing I mean: Does this mean that if you are a verified non-profit or not a verified non-profit with less than $10,000 raised they don't care how the donations are used but if you are not a verified profit with over $10,000 raised you have to 'demonstrate how their donations will be used'? They don't seem to give a link for this - what kind of thing would they want to know for the 'demonstration'? Is this about them wanting to charge higher fees or is it about them not supporting a cause like they banned wikileaks from raising money? Thanks
  6. Hi all, Has anyone used a paypal donate button? I am just wondering about the set up process. I think they have different application forms according to whether you are a charity, a political cause, a business etc. Do they take different cuts for these eg a bigger cut if you are a business? If you are charity for example do you need to give much detail about what the money is for / what the charity does? Thanks
  7. I made an online shop using Drupal Ubercart a few months ago and it works fine. At the time Drupal Commerce was not suitable because it was quite limited in the UK payment gateways it supported - I don't know right now if that has since improved.
  8. Hi all, I think google used to give 10 organic results per page, but now it gets more complicated with location results. Random example: wedding photography brighton. For organic results I get # 1 = map / google plus; 2 & 3 regular results; 4 - 9 map / google plus; 10 - 14 regular results. So there are 8 map / google plus results and 6 regular results = total 14. On other searches I think these map / google plus results tend to be bunched together near the top in the same way. So does anyone know how these map / google plus results relate to the other organic results? Just to make it more confusing some locations searches have zero map / google plus results eg wedding photography swansea - I get just 10 regular results and zero map / google plus results. Unless this means that photographers in Brighton use google plus but photographers in Swansea don't. Thanks
  9. What kind of errors? I thought you meant browser errors but do you mean you can't even import the sql file?
  10. It is a bit strange if they kept the database but deleted the drupal files. You would need to know what version of Drupal it was eg 5, 6 or 7. If you use a drupal 6 database with drupal 7 files (for example) you will probably get major errors. Another option is just to open up the SQL file in a text reader - you would have all the text content but of course in plain text, no formatting etc.
  11. OK I know you might advise against this but suppose your client says forget about less than PR2, I want you to concentrate on PR2 and above - how many PR2 and above would you aim for in a month? Thanks...
  12. Ok thanks but is one way better than a two way exchange for google?
  13. Yeah but that is assuming it is a level playing field which it is not if your rival widget-sellers are mysteriously getting 48,000 links in 6 days (as mentioned above, post #12). Ok let's take the lower figure of 2000 - do you mean this is what you would add yourself ie excluding any viral scenarios, and do you mean you would be adding links manually without the help of buying links, using automated software etc? By the way my impression was that less than PR2 links are worth next to nothing but looking at some high ranking rival backlinks so far I have been surprised by how many are less than PR2.
  14. I meant backlinking domains (ie not counting multiple links from the same domain).
  15. Of course these tools use different methods and some are more accurate than others. Here is a quick test I did for one of my websites (backlinks found) = www.google.com/webmasters/tools 49 http://www.link-assi...om/seo-spyglass 25 https://www.majesticseo.com 18 http://www.analyzebacklinks.com 10 www.alexa.com 9 http://www.opensiteexplorer.org 5 https://ahrefs.com 5 http://backlinkwatch.com 0 Maybe anyone could post their own test results for comparison...
