I've new to web designing, and I want to use iStock to get images to use on websites(background images, banners, etc), but I discovered that iStock is not free, you need to buy credits, if im correct.

Are there any websites, similar to iStock, where I can obtain such images(royalty free) for free?

Thanks.

Just did a quick google and found this:

http://www.stockvault.net/

Looks to be free (at least some of the photos are). Just make sure you have the right to use the photos on a commercial website.

I hope that helps

I'm pretty sure a thread like this pops up once a week... it might be prudent to try searching for answers before posting.

SXC is probably the best for completely free stuff, but you can sometimes find stuff on Flickr or DeviantArt if you look around, but you HAVE to ask or have permission to use the image explicitly stated on the author's profile or the image page.

Otherwise, just pony up some cash for some stock photos. If you're doing professional work having professional photography is just another element you need.
