Magento works well for some of our clients, 2 hours training and a few pdfs specific to them for adding products and categories, for the other extras available in the admin... then yes we get some questions and spend a bit of free time helping out. I even managed to teach my missus to add products, she can add a new product with images, options etc.. in 2 mins. Developing in Magento looks to be the downside, but a bit of research and you can find a reliable extension, although not often needed as Magento has majority built in. Hosting we have a few with DX3 shared basic hosting and some on VPS hosting and although I have not scrutinised the speeds DX3 seems faster.

What if I add varient options to products, 1 VAT exempt, 1 Non-vat exempt. The customer then chooses, but has to fill out a form declaring they are really exempt BUT how do I get that form page into the checkout process on zencart, cubecart, magento etc... Anyone know how to add extra checkout page.

I suppose a very basic way might be using a coupon code for Vat 20% off. But a specific page is needed for customer to give exempt details and a declaration agreement, before they can access the code. I have tested a zen cart VAT exempt mod, but it looks like before a customer can use it, it needs manually applying. zen also has group options, I will check that out. Dx3webs can you give out a brief how to do this in Magento please, I have not used Magento yet but heard good reports. Thanks Dan.

Hi, I am asking for Help choosing the right e-commerce for a new site that must have a few specific options available. 1, VAT free option for medical excempt customers - so they will need to agree to a page that has a declaration before they receive VAT free. 2, If they are not VAT exempt then - they will choose that option and pay full price inc VAT. 3, All product prices to display without VAT, but VAT will show in checkout if customer is not VAT exempt. 4, Also need to have products that are not VAT exempt at all. 5, Payment is to use HSBC payment gateway. No of products won't be over 50, so might consider Wordpress or Joomla. I've used Zencart & Cubecart, but think there will be alot of extra coding/mods that still might not get my desired results. If anyone has designed a site with above, I would appreciate feedback. Thanks

Thanks guys, I looked at Corbis for photos, but could not work out the license fees, put one in the checkout & had a whole range of options that were very expensive and time limited. Think I will be getting my camera out & then spruce up in photoshop. Although I have emailed a few manufacturers if I can use their images.

I have used simplepie for getting rss feeds onto another website. Or Joomla & wordpress have plug in's to help. Another tool I have played with is Yahoo pipes, too strip out only the rss content you need. I'm no expert coder but still managed to get it all working ok.
