October 18, 20178 yr Hi. I am new to this and I have through, a misunderstanding bought a domain name that is of no use to me. It seems I cannot get a refund on domain names. I am wondering if it is possible to get this changed to one that I can make use of and if so, how do I go about it? Thanks for any advice. Ron
October 19, 20178 yr As it probably didn't cost much just put it to one side and let it expire. You don't buy domain names, all you you have is a license to use it for a year or two.
October 19, 20178 yr Author Yes. That is what I thought. The hosting service I have been using, said they could, and did change a domain name from .org.uk to .org but now I can't get into it via FTP or any other way. The changed domain name already exists and is in use, so I wondered how they could change it at all?

Wow, I'm pretty sure you can't 'swap' a domain name after registration, only register a new domain. Secondly they can't have registered a domain when it's owned by someone else. I think all they might have done was update the hosting package under the other domain, this is easily under their control, I hope you're confused and not the hosting company thinks they can swap domains, that would be weird.
October 19, 20178 yr As far as I know you can't get refunds on domain name registrations. The one you registered, just let it lapse - check that auto-renewals are not active. Register a new name and ask your hosting company if they can remap the hosting account to use the new one, at worst all they'd have to do is set up a new account for you and delete the old one.
