  2. Hey Jack. Thanks for getting back to me. I don't have anything called Webpack or Parcel installed. I did run `npm run build` so I have my dist folder with the js files in - though no html/css which seems odd but maybe its normal? I've asked my host to point at the dist folder. Thanks James
  3. Hey I've made a new website, using npm for the first time - I use npm at work all the time, but never actually for a personal project until now, and I wanted to take advantage of ES6. However I get a 404 when I go to http://metlinebingo.co.uk/ - though the website works as expected if I go to http://metlinebingo.co.uk/src/ What have I done wrong? Or not done? I'm guessing it is something simple but Google hasn't come up with the answer yet... Thanks James
  4. Hello. I have two websites. One is http://jameswinfield.co.uk/, which is a website for when I used to be a DJ, and the other is https://iwillbeawebdeveloper.co.uk/ which was a portfolio/blog from when I wanted to become a web developer/software engineer. I am now an established software engineer so having a portfolio named "I Will Be A Web Developer" isn't exactly selling myself. My DJ website is currently unused - I haven't updated it for years but didn't want to lose the domain name so have kept it up. At some point this year I want to rebuild my portfolio, and have thought about using jameswinfield.co.uk as the domain name instead of iwillbeawebdeveloper.co.uk. My question is, would there be any SEO impact or other related issues in changing the purpose of my domain name - jameswinfield.co.uk? Both sites have minimal traffic. Thanks James
  5. Thanks - I'll take a look at them.
  6. Bit of a random one. I guess I'm not the only one now working from home, so I'm thinking ahead to the warmer weather and looking to buy an outdoor chair, where hopefully I will be able to work from. Has anyone come across anything that works for them? Maybe it would be easier chair and table?

  9. Agree with the above, especially comments regarding hero image. Also seems quite a lot of different fonts used? I try to limit mine to 2 per website. 3 max.

  12. I'm not the easiest to get hold of on the phone...e-mail?
  13. Hey, sorry for the slow response - I have a lot going on, including the regular issues with my host - twice today they have taken my sites down. Well I'm currently paying £29.99 for 6 months. Given that they are just hobby sites I'm loathe to pay too much more. In fact my old host with the slow server response times have offered me a cheaper rate of £3.99 a month to go back. I have to move away from my current host. But don't know what to do.
  14. Hello I recently moved my web host for circa 20 WordPress sites that I have. Migration was so problematic but eventually I succeeded - and the site speed was good...much better than on my old host. Until today, when my new hosts took my sites down and advised over live chat, when I raised the technical issue, that shared servers are not sufficient to run WordPress websites and that I need to upgrade to a Reseller or VPS option. None of the sites are especially massive (7GB between 20 of them), nor do they get much traffic. Do I need to do follow their advice? I don't know much about hosting...I left my last host because my sites were too slow (circa 5s server response time). I really don't know what to do now...migrating took weeks, website e-mails were down for 4 weeks of that time, and I probably spent 10-15 hours sorting things out that broke during the migration, so I'm loathe to migrate away again just because I don't want to waste more time. Any advice? I should mention that I refused to upgrade my service, threatened to make a complaint and now they are mysteriously working again. So I feel like it was a blackmail attempt. Thanks James
  15. I recently applied for a new role - I'm currently two years into being a junior f/e developer (not really junior now), had a very good phone interview but then they set me a React challenge despite me advising that I'd never used React. I hoped that I might pick it up quickly if I read a couple of tutorials like the one on the ReactJS website (https://reactjs.org/tutorial/tutorial.html), and be able to apply it to the challenge, however I cannot even get a simple onClick function to work - despite doing what it says on the tutorial. Clearly this job application is going in the bin. I am pretty down-hearted right-now but I'm sure I'll get over it. Looking around, it seems most of the good next level f/e jobs in London require at least basic knowledge of React (I use AngularJS in my current role), and I am keen to learn it anyway. I do need to move on from my place as they are still paying me an entry level salary - they offered me a promotion to mid but no pay rise. So my question is, where do I start in terms of learning it? My best guess was through the React curriculum section on FreeCodeCamp - but I thought I should ask the question in the hope that someone might have had a similar experience to me. Kind regards James
  16. I'm looking to upgrade to PHP7, however I'm not sure if all the plugins will be compatible with it. Is there an easy way to do this? I tried using https://wordpress.org/plugins/php-compatibility-checker/ but it didn't work. Any advice appreciated Kind regards James
  17. No - example.co.uk/ie is a non-existent page. Thanks for taking the time to answer me ?
  18. Separate sites through Wordpress Multisite.
  19. Would there be any negative SEO effect of setting up a 301 redirect from www.example.co.uk/ie to www.example.com/ie ? Our respective UK and Ireland sites are at those addresses, and we have just discovered a flyer printing error...hence the redirect request. Thanks James
