I have started working on my own sharing functionality for my site, and was disgusted to see in addition to removing ads, it removes the possibility for people to share content through their favorite sites by targeting the sharing mechanisms like www.pinterest.com create pin and facebook sharer.php

 

 

With many users learning about Adblock Plus to combat the horrible changes to Facebook, does this spell the end of social media sharing?

I use Adblock for a few reasons, all of them are to block adds, none of them to block social media.

 

Saying that though as far as I am aware it does not block social media share buttons but it does block inline posts coming from social media into websites, as far as I am concerned 99% of those are ugly in themselves and add nothing to the functionality or usability of the site as it just detracts from the sites main and important content.

 

In order to answer your question, my answer is a simple one, 'no' as buttons are unobtrusive and will continue to grace the presence of many websites for years to come.

 

Maybe your question should have been about the inline content of social media on other sites?

I was referring to social sharing buttons such as pin it, tweet, like etc...... These are things I personally like to use however adblock plus removes them from the page so my thinking was if ablock plus is adopted by the majority of users, site and businesses could see a loss in the natural traffic.
