January 4, 201412 yr My name is Trish and I have been creating websites since 1996, and completed official training as an Internet Specialist in 1998, once that became available.Though my preference is with HTML coding, I do understand and use WordPress regularly. My new challenge is with understanding Responsive design. January 9, 201412 yr welcome ah, 1999 was my first site. Same. Mine was a Beastie Boys site I believe with their name tiled across the background and headings with blinking text. Nav was left column like was the trend at the time. Looks like it's back

Before that EVERYTHING was text only. Ah, those were the days. How I miss dial up and ICQ I don't think I have anything that goes back further than 2003 (thankfully). I think my first graphics were bitmaps. Something like 3mb per image. Was insane to download. Also, domains were so much better back then; highlander69.imaninja@tripod.com and other malarkey...
January 19, 201412 yr Author Wow, when ICQ came on scene, I could transfer files to my printer in the next city, without leaving home. Talk about a time saver! Though, I remember setting ICQ up to transfer the files and then I'd go about other things for a few hours as dialup was sooooo slow to transfer... but saved me winter travelling 2003 4li4s? You missed all the good stuff... like importing an image from Corel Draw 3 into PageMaker 5.2. Hah! I'd go for a refill to my coffee cup waiting for that to happen. Seriously... but we were happy it COULD happen back then. Makes me REALLY appreciate DSL today. Viewing videos was only a dream back then. Whether domains were so much better back then I cannot say, as there were spammy type of sites then too. However, we had better options to ignore them... and search engines like WebCrawler followed by Alta Vista search results could not be bought back then, and search results were way more "fair" then they are today. Ever try searching for Exel issues today? Yikes... takes far too many queries to get what I'm looking for and even then I usually get what I need through links offered within the sites shown in the search results.However, there are a number of other things that are waaaay better today... and, I'm VERY thankful for this forum as it reminds me of the help that all webmasters online used to do in helping each other out. All we had to do was "pay it forward" when others needed help... which I thoroughly enjoy doing with ANY computer issues I can assist with.
