anybody has used hostgator level 3 vps ?

becoz at present we are going thru worst nightmares hosting a wp site there

the servers are way too slow

So, you're on a UK website complaining about performance of a US host?

 

Typically people outside the US use US hosts because they're cheaper, but normally with that comes reduced performance.

 

So if you're trying to save money by using a US host and expecting similar performance levels to the UK you're grossly mistaken.

 

Are you based in the US, UK or elsewhere?

UK - US latency aside, India is a completely different kettle of fish.

 

Even with a premium US host, which Hostgator isn't, you'd experience latency issues because of your location. It's less to do with the host 'sucking' and more to do with India's infrastructure.

 

Your only reasons for using a US host are if your clients and visitors are based in the US, is this the case or was using Hostgator a cost cutting exercise?

nah client is based in india only

they recommend knowhost which i too heard is gud

the worst thing is hostgator is not ready to refund money

well we tried bigrock but they failed to provide ddos security so we switched to hostgator

It depends on the issue at hand, if the issue is performance then I wholeheartedly disagree and hosting in a different country with any kind of distance will be an issue.

 

The link your provided shows that people recommend using hosting in your region/country or where your customers are, which is what I said?

Always try to host the site on a server in, or very close to, the region it's intended for.

That and Hostgator does indeed suck...

Dont see a problem. I never hosted nearby. Only if your users are primarily from one region it is not bad to try to host geographically close to them.

I'm based in Ireland, with my VPS with Liquid Web in US. No issues at all.

It's a well known fact that you should try to host geographically close as you can to the clients target audience or demographic as is possible.

well i just quoted the discussions of some members who mentioned if its close then its gud but if not it wont be that big an issue

 

some guy from ireland has got server in us without any issues?

Not sure how many times we can repeat ourselves. It's not an argument, it's a fact.

To offer some neutral ground here, having a website located in the US and a user being located in the UK does not mean a site will run extremely slow. Of course having a server located in the UK with a user in the UK will be a lot faster (PING tests will show you this) but a couple of the elements that can be slow is DNS lookups and external script loading. Here is a couple things you can do to speed things up a little:

1. Use CDN/Global DNS services, your DNS1 and DNS2 should be located in 2 different countries (example: UK and US) - If you have have a DNS3,4,5 then great! All the better
    
   
2. Change your code to not use external scripts apart from Google's CDN, things like jQuery from some external so called CDN's will be slower
    
   
3. CloudFlare, this can work but tests have shown CloudFlare can actually slow down your website for some users so be careful if you have CloudFlare setup for your site.

well i went for hostgator india one and it really sucked

now i am using urpad.net site loads blazing fast

 

i cud have used indian vps but being an indian tho i really dont have much faith on indian hosting solutions

LOL, Not matter what country you are in, unless you have a rubbish internet connection there should not be ANY slow loading if the host is good.

It's a fricking website site for goodness sake, probably under a 1 mb load! i use teamspeak and play people across the world in australia from a home connection and that is fine.

 

I have had many experiences with US hosting and they suck because they lie about the service they offer you!

American web hosts are the most dodgiest i've ever seen and experiences.

 

Anyways, you should always host in your native country, not because of speed cos thats all bull****, butbecause you can sue if **** goes wrong orsomething.
