February 6, 200818 yr Hi everyone, I saw the post about the best website in world and thought I'd share a blog post I did on the worst web designers in the world. As far as I know, these are all serious businesses trying to make money...how well they're doing at it, I'm not sure... Remember, these are people that charge money to design websites for other people. Not some hapless beginner unleashed upon the world. I find it quite upsetting actually. The 5 Worst Web Designers in the World I'm sure you guys have a few of your own to share and I'd love to add to my collection. So feel free to post them in the comments. Enjoy, Craig
February 6, 200818 yr jeezus.. at number 5, i looked through the source. they have more tables then a school canteen :S i found this meta tag quite funny though <meta name="document-rating" content="Safe for Kids"> XD number 4 is the russian matrix site xD number 3 aint that bad.. i mean it has a MARQUEE .... is number 2 serious?? .... number 1... ill review this after i wake from my epileptic fit!!
February 6, 200818 yr I'm always rather cautious about mocking someone else's work just in case one day I see my own stuff in the "how not to" guide. It's interesting you should start this thread because I was discussing web design with someone yesterday and likened it to the world of second hand car dealers. There are some (a few) respectable ones, there are many that charge a fortune and others who are so bad its a miracle they keep going.
February 6, 200818 yr Some of those web sites in the "Top 5 Worse" sent shock through my body. Totally no offence to the designer but why upload that on to the Internet. It is tacky and cheap! I think the key to good web design is to keep thing neat, clean, crisp and clear. Also to use colours that complement one another and not to give you eye strain. I hope no offence is taken but that is my personal opinion.
February 6, 200818 yr I'm always rather cautious about mocking someone else's work just in case one day I see my own stuff in the "how not to" guide. Ha! I'm exactly the same, but then there's a difference between, "not great" and "down right awful". These people need a wake up call and so does anyone who employs them! That last one really did hurt my eyes, especially when I tried to read it! I'm just trying to imagine the guy at his computer hand-coding his website, then viewing it in a browser and saying outloud "ah yes, perfect!"...
February 6, 200818 yr I'm always rather cautious about mocking someone else's work just in case one day I see my own stuff in the "how not to" guide. Ditto. And I'm a fragile soul. With all the traffic flowing to these five sites from WDF (via the blog), they're going to look at their stats and find out they're on this list. It makes me sad in a way, because you have to assume people really are trying, but then I guess there ought to be a point where you realise you're not among the best, or even average, at what you do.
February 6, 200818 yr Those designs are spot on, I love the retro frames they use. Makes me feel warm inside
February 8, 200818 yr With all the traffic flowing to these five sites from WDF (via the blog), they're going to look at their stats and find out they're on this list. It makes me sad in a way, because you have to assume people really are trying, but then I guess there ought to be a point where you realise you're not among the best, or even average, at what you do. I'd hazard a guess and say a typical person who builds site sthis way might not know what stats are?
February 8, 200818 yr The web designer of VF Designer has no knowledge of creative design and need some improvement in their design
February 9, 200818 yr Interesting reading! Anyone know any other design sites along these lines? I tried to find another to post, but can't seem to find any!
February 9, 200818 yr Interesting reading! Anyone know any other design sites along these lines? I tried to find another to post, but can't seem to find any! Not designers pages but someone must still think they work Browse and weep.... http://www.dokimos.org/ajff/ http://www.globalaigs.org/ from http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/
February 9, 200818 yr Vincent Flanders makes me laugh, especially with the mystery meat navigation videos - http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/videos.html
February 10, 200818 yr With all the traffic flowing to these five sites from WDF (via the blog), they're going to look at their stats and find out they're on this list. It makes me sad in a way, because you have to assume people really are trying, but then I guess there ought to be a point where you realise you're not among the best, or even average, at what you do. I'm quite confident these designers (oh my did i just use that word...) haven't the first idea how to implement any form of statistics... Maybe they designed them purposly to get on a forum like this for some free marketing... CLEVER but i doubt they did Good post i needed a good laugh
February 10, 200818 yr Poison for my eyes. But in the other hand I don't think it is nice to point out designers that have bad taste or old fashion website designs Some are talented some are not, some are great some are bad... that is life.
February 11, 200818 yr i bet they are going to redesign their website. but it's a good thing also, they can improve more.
February 13, 200818 yr Author Poison for my eyes. But in the other hand I don't think it is nice to point out designers that have bad taste or old fashion website designs Some are talented some are not, some are great some are bad... that is life. Yeah, but once they start charging innocent people for their designs that's where I draw the line. Glad everyone enjoyed the post and thanks for all your feedback on here. I hadn't realised how big this thread had grown I've been so busy.
February 14, 200818 yr teehee number one reminds me of the first ever website I made when I was first learning HTML...only mine was better as it had a midi in the background
February 15, 200818 yr It's not about being nice or not. People like number one shouldn't be working in this field. It's not their thing. I have been learning web design for 2 months and while I am still learning and just starting out, I can design sites 100 times better than the ones in this list. This suggests: 1) They are extremely lazy. It only takes a second to search Google for the latest trends. It takes a second to search for free standards-compliant templates if you want to go that route. Having a site this annoying, this ugly, and charging people for such a ****ty service is unexplainable and wrong. 2) They simply have no idea about what they are doing (seems to be the case). In this case they'd be better off doing something else both for the clients and people like you and me who have been working hard to develop their skills. It is unfair that these guys get a project when there are many hungry designers (at least better than them) who need work. It is a wake up call for them. Let them spend a day or two learning a few things or just leave this for the more qualified.
February 26, 200818 yr Don't forget to click on the "next" button http://www.bromac.com/ There's a reason why this site doesn't have a page with all the work on. Just can't quite put my finger on why....
February 27, 200818 yr There's a little room for improvement, but they're not all THAT bad... (hang on, need to put glasses on...)
February 27, 200818 yr Wowsa! If I ever hear another prospective client whine about my fee's, I now have 5 "competitiors" I can refeer them to...
February 27, 200818 yr Oh man, it's shocking what some people produce and sell to others! Most of, if not all of, my local competitors have absolutely appalling websites. It is like they went on a week long Dreamweaver course, and now believe they are good enough to build websites for a living - it just doesn't work that way! It's a shame that these 'companies' get so much business. I'm sure they are lovely people, but they are not providing the best service for their clients - they are getting fairly ripped off! Either way, it makes the good designers look even better, so It's not all bad! Rob
March 1, 200818 yr no.1 made my eyeballs sting Whilst its fun criticising the dodgy designs its always worth remembering that there is no limit to how good any piece of design work can be.
March 1, 200818 yr I don't think there is a limit to how crap a site can be either. I swear it takes more creativity to make something as bad as those, than it does to make a good site! My head just doesn't think that way
March 2, 200818 yr I'm always rather cautious about mocking someone else's work just in case one day I see my own stuff in the "how not to" guide. My first thought too.. lol
March 2, 200818 yr Don't forget to click on the "next" button http://www.bromac.com/ Wow - this dude is really living the American dream.
March 2, 200818 yr WebWizz looks like the first website I every built - well, as in mine had frames and animated gif's too. Surely they can't be serious?
March 2, 200818 yr lol some of these sites are really simple and yet not valid with w3c you mean like this one? sorry had to check If these sites were made in the past few years then fair enough, but say they were made 10 years ago, I remember browsing a lot of sites back then and a lot of them did look like that. So really maybe 10 years ago they were the greatest designers around Also I love how http://www.bromac.com/ offers a variety of *midi* files! That is soooo cool
March 4, 200818 yr That first link had a downloader virus, Norton stopped it but I thought I would warn people that the sites been infected.
