To be fair it will not make a difference whether you use ID or CLASS tags. The way i use them is for the main div containers (i.e wrapper, header, body, and footer tags) is when i would use an ID tag as these generally do not need to be changed, whereas CLASS tags can be used for other items and items that need to be used more than once. For instance you may have boxes in your content, so you can use class tags there or combine them both and use the same ID tag but with a different ClASS tag.

Have you considered running your code through a validator. http://validator.w3.org This will point out the majority of your coding issues but will not spot things like untidy code and code that is not needed, i'm afraid thats up to you

HI, Can someone please advise me..? I have a client that is after a recruitment web site that will tie in with some database management software. Does anyone know of any platforms that i can have a look at as i want to preferably use an off-the-shelf product and place my own web design over the top of this. You can buy these off ebay pre-printed and obvioudly they are true colours rather than what output your printer decided to print them like.

One problem i have, is that i didn't even read your post before i clicked on the link, and i instantly knew it was a template... I think you need to adapt it to look less of a template.

Wordpress for CMS is great and has unlimited flexibility. Fully CSS validated and very clean code. Templates are ok for budget web sites when the client hasn't got much money and you haven't got much time, but aprat from that i'd stay away. Also if you use a template makes sure it is fully CSS validated

I've seen many web design companies that couldn't put something together like you have... No honestly there are some real bad designers out there that actually manage to run a business. The new design is a great improvement. I would strongly consider looking at your W3C standards, as your HTML has lots of errors and your CSS has a few also. Use the web design validators over at W3C.

One more point... sorry to be negative, but the second mock-up reminds me of an advert for hawaian sun cream or something. I'd agree on the primary colours comment.

Be careful using too much gradient colours in your design as it can make it look a little too busy.. Couple of ideas: Use the background to your advantage and have something like paint splashes as you'd see on a kiddies drawing or something. Utilise a bit more of the space you have for instance the header is too big for what you have there. And you have too much "whitespace" Think more of the target audience. For instance i have a toddler, and if i was browsing potential nurseries i'd want to see some qualities of professionalism, happiness, education and development. So try and get across some qualities like that

I agree this is the method i use and many other designers will use.. One disadvantage i will note though is that this makes it impossible to display a different button for the webpage your currently viewing. If you setup your buttons as a list and style with CSS this will allow you to add and remove pages without having to worry about layout too much..

I'm quite confident these designers (oh my did i just use that word...) haven't the first idea how to implement any form of statistics... Maybe they designed them purposly to get on a forum like this for some free marketing... CLEVER but i doubt they did Good post i needed a good laugh

You can go out and find backlinks and spend hours and hours doing this, but i've found that article submission is the most successful way. And writing different articles linking back to different pages in your website to balance the link juice... I'd jump over to directorycritic.com every week or so and just add yourself to a few new directories, that are normally free when you submit a link and then they eventually get popular and charge, but you jumped in there beforehand... There are many tactics today including writing some info for digg.com and magnolia which is a successful way to get a bit of exposure. If you are a good CSS designer a very powerful seo tactic is to submit to as many CSS galleries as possible as they are normally PR4 + and its free. Accessibility and usability are definately first on the agenda... But if you really think hard it is possible to pull of every aspect and create a great website. Any website can be optimised for search engines apart from flash websites. So as long as you leave room for a little content you'll be fine.

I've tested the browser compatibility on this website and it seems fine to me. I'd suggest to your friend to clear his cache and try again. I wouldn't worry about it as it sounds more like a problem your friend has locally..

It is good practice to also float .content_right to the right as well (float: right;) Be careful of floating though as you may need to clear it for content below.

First thing you need to do which is very important is order your meta tags properly. Title should be your first most tag right at the top. Then Description then keywords. Then the most important change you need to make is placing your keyword in the first 4 words of your page title (i.e Cincinatti Web Designer) if that is your keyword should be in there at the beginning and try and keep your title short as the longer it is the least specific your keyword is. Secondly you need to get a H1 tag near the top of your code that has your keyword in it. For instance you have Boyle's web design at the top. Try and change that to your keyword.

It sounds to me like you need to do some thorough research on your keywords. And then focus on them. Pop over to SEOMOZ and download the keyword research pdf from there (i think its about $30) but well worth the money) as keyword research is the most important step in establishing successful SEM. As far as Yahoo is concerned, i 'd concentrate on google more as they share a huge chunk of the market about 3/4 and MSN / ASK/ Yahoo fight over the rest. So concentrate on google a little bit more. One point to make also is that you are in the most competitve industry as most web designers can implement basic SEO and your fighting a constant battle day in day out, so be proud that your ranked in yahoo.
