February 22, 201016 yr One of my clients passed this onto me today - http://1poundsite.co.uk/ £1 a website.. how on earth do these people make a living? February 22, 201016 yr I was wondering that. It would seem that they recoup some costs via selling domains and hosting as well as "additional services". All you get is a premade template, plus they make their money by changing the site to the customers needs. You will have no input over the actual design of the site, no changes can be made. If you wish to have input and design control of your project we can offer this service to you at a small additional cost.
February 22, 201016 yr 5 minutes work to change a template and upload it. £39 for .co.uk domain name. Money for next to nothing for them, plus it's a foot in the door - at some point the client will need more than a basic web presence and they are likely to stick with what they know.
February 22, 201016 yr Just had a quick look at there website. I'd be interested to see how many customers they get. I imagine going from £1 to £300 would be very easy once you've added a domain, hosting, contact form etc etc etc. Not a bad idea though I must admit!

February 25, 201016 yr £99 for a 5 page website with no real input into the design seems a little harsh really. I have seen some other innovative pricing models which are more interesting though. Like website made for free and then charge much more for monthly hosting/maintenance.
March 19, 201016 yr I am sure website you get for £99 is professional as hell...... they need to give you at least 2-3 years of free maintenance as well :rolleyes:
March 19, 201016 yr wonder if they really do do it for £1, if i said i will host it, il use my own domain and logo, i bet they say no we don't offer that you must use us, kin of a good idea depending on if your a customer or competitor i can see alot of people doing what they can to get the site down on something.

That's what I was thinking but then saw on their site that they won't actually design you a website unless you also buy the domain and hosting through them. Surely this is false advertising as it is impossible for you to acquire a website for only £1?

Not false advertising as you do get a website for £1... the fact that you need hosting and a domain to use that (and can only use theirs which they tell you) doesn't really matter. It's like the 'on-road' costs when you buy a car - the car may be £x but it'll cost you another £x to actually be able to get it out of the showroom!
