skidz got a reaction from oakleaves in Professional Standard Digital CamaraI picked up a canon eos 350d a few months back. Beautiful camera to get started on. I bought it off a professional photographer as he was upgrading his spare (the 350d) and he really didn;t want to let go of it.
Picked mine up for £350 with lots of extras!
Pay attention to the lenses. That's where it's at!

skidz got a reaction from Pedro in Virgin Media BroadbandI think you need to be looking into "Load Balancing"
Edit: Either that or, hide your router from public view, change the password and tell her you can't afford broadband anymore!

And the code shown here: http://jsfiddle.net/michalkopanski/mMkat/25/
Please pay close attention to the clearfixes I've added to your HTML (top left box).
I also made some comments in the CSS, so check those out as well.
Hope this does the trick.

skidz reacted to 4colourprogress in www.persernetwork.com. What should we add?I like that you failed to reply about the part on how Google + failed to usurp the Facebook title? Even if Facebook is flawed that's irrelevant, people use it and will continue to use it as long as their friends do. You failed to answer my questions by just saying "oh people will join because it's awesome" I'm sorry but that's just a retarded and childish answer.
P.S I hope the designers who made that widget didn't have anything to do with the UI of PerSer, it's just awful.

skidz got a reaction from Tex0gen in Paypal Payment Fail or Success PHPYou'll need to read up on paypal IPN (Instant Payment Notification). Once a payment is complete, paypal IPN will provide a silent callback, which is what you need.
This website might be able to help https://www.paypaltech.com/SG2/

skidz got a reaction from joshfolio in so who do you use for hosting and why? That's interesting, I used OVH about a year ago in there highly infamous data center. I used the server for means other than webhosting, shifting high volumes of content generally with a constant connection.
I found them to be absolutely useless in this context. You don't get a dedicated 100mbit line and would generally cap out at about 4mb/s.

skidz reacted to evu in So I want to be a web developer/designer.Just to add my 4pence mate.
In my opinion I would drop Dreamweaver and unless you plan on making animations and/or games drop Flash too. You wouldn't learn much that's useful in direct relation to web design/dev from Dreamweaver and Flash is dying fast on the website front(still used for animation and games, mind). Even though they're free, that time could be better spent learning something else.
Blue gave a good outline so I'll just +1 to the specialistion. It can be a daunting task to learn both front-end and back-end, people usually specialise. You say you want to make your own websites instead of buying them but depending on the type of site it could take a long time to make both visually appealing sites and dynamic back ends. You could always focus on one and get the other done on contract.
Have a look(read: Google) at design theory, typography and UX. Most of the principles for print design are also applicable on the web.
Free = Google.
Non-Free = Try Lynda.com and ThinkVitamin. Require a membership but excellent resources.
I would say yes if you are wanting to do the design/front-end side of things. Although the web is mostly text, people tend to look at the pretty ones more often, especially these days. Learning the principles of graphic design can't be a bad thing, as I said earlier, a lot of it applies to web design. Though there's a hell of a lot to take in so be choosy, there's specialisations in graphic design too, such as logo design and advertising. Don't try to be a jack of all trades and master of feck nil.
Since the really early days of personal computer's we've had this great program built into our system called "Calculator"
I can suggest a few of my faves on the design front;
Principles of Beautiful web design
Bulletproof web design
Don't make me think
Designing for the web < this one's free! <3 Boulton.
Don't know if they're all available as ebooks though. And you'll have to wait for someone to suggest any back-end books
Hope this helps!
Goodluck,
~evu.

skidz reacted to oakleaves in This website, Looking to hire, Indian AgenciesTough!
There are plenty of resources on this forum you could learn from. Look at all the different thread categories!
The Looking to Hire is about business people looking for serious services. At the moment due to some of the problems that are being highlighted it is not possible for serious business people to use it unfortunately.
And if I had a 15 yr old son who was coming out with language like 'ffs' (we all know what it means) , 'I swear to God' and 'fricking pm?' I'd give him a massive clip round the ear and confiscate his XBOX and toys.

skidz got a reaction from kingy da killa in This website, Looking to hire, Indian AgenciesFor roughly the past 2 years I've been taking 90% of my freelance work from this very website. As of recently, the way this works has become a nightmare.
This website, for all intents purposes is for UK based web designers / developers, If I'm not mistaken.
As of recently, someone posts the requirements for a new website and immediately they get a response (written in broken English) from someone who registered 3 days ago offering them services for £100 (where an average quote would be 5/600).
The board seems to be in undated with people joining merely to scan the "Looking to hire" section.
I'm wondering if it would be possible (and do other members agree) to add some restrictions to the looking to hire section? Maybe not allowing people to see this thread until they have 10 reputation or 30 posts.
Let me know what you guys think.

skidz got a reaction from Ciwan in jQuery Click then 2nd ClickI always advocate that using .css() is terrible! You should always create style rules in the stylesheet not via javascript.
Real world scenario:
Say I come to your project in 6 months time because you've asked me to update something. I need to change the colour of the box. I would immediately be looking for style rules so I'd instantly go to the stylesheet.

skidz got a reaction from Renaissance-Design in jQuery Click then 2nd ClickThere is but tbh it would be more messy than this. Surely adding a couple of css classes to your stylesheet isn't that much of an issue?
