Thanks for your input guys. I believe they are currently paying TED a sum each year for this service and were just wondering if there was a cheaper alternative. Sounds like this might be a pretty big job though and might need to be turned down...

Hi All, I'm not even sure if this will be possible but a client has asked whether we could look into providing them with some sort of service that would involve going to a website, performing a search for the latest tenders available in their field and then emailing that list to them on a daily basis. I was just wondering if it is possible to create something like this using PHP? If anyone can point me in the right direction it will be much appreciated Fred

I have a store currently running on Interspire which we've been pleased with however it's no long being supported. Am considering moving over to Magento and was just wondering what experiences you guys have had with it? Pros and Cons etc. Thanks in advance!

You might be better off designing a few mock ups similar to those of local businesses. For example if you do a few fictitious website designs for a solicitors and a dental practice, it will then be more appealing for future customers has they can see examples of what you might be able to do for them.

This can often be the case. When receiving multiple quotes, companies can often see the cheapest ones as less experienced and likely to delivery a lesser quality product. You'll find people are prepared to pay a fair price if they think that what they are getting will be worth it.

I would guess so although I haven't used Shopify myself. They usually provide some sort of templating documentation which would include whether PHP is used in their templates.

Once you get to the quoting stage, you should usually find that most of the 'selling yourself' has already been done and that the customer has already decided in their mind to hire you. If you are getting a lot of rejections at this stage then it is likely that you are pricing structure doesn't meet up to the customers perception of value. If this is the case I would either reduce your fees or present yourself differently and make it clear to the customer why your products/services are worth paying for.

Tbh unless the customer wants something with very specific functionality that sites like shopify don't offer, then creating an ecommerce site completely from scratch seems quite counter productive. There are so many good ecommerce software providers out there such as Magento, Shopify, Open Cart etc and I would say you are better off providing your client with a unique template & setup. This way they are getting a proven system with more features than they are likely to need and won't have to pay as much as the work involved will be less. As they say, why reinvent the wheel

I submitted a theme to ThemeForest a few years ago and managed to get it onto their site pretty quickly with only one revision needed during the review stage. However I hear they have since tightened up a lot and their standard are now very high with a lot of submissions being declined. Anyone have any recent experience with ThemeForest? Tempted to design a few Wordpress themes.

Looks good although possibly a little bland. Where you have the selection of Apple products, I would replace the stock imagery with items from your portfolio.
