June 23, 200917 yr I have been using (9/10) for a while now and I'm happy with their service. (8/10) and (8/10) are good too, but PowWeb costs less money. Interesting first post with only a link to powweb using an advert tracking script. How long you been working for powweb now?
June 26, 200917 yr http://www.hosthi.co.uk/hosthi_web_hosting_features.php I have ready some good reviews on this site... not sure though ????
June 26, 200917 yr http://www.hosthi.co.uk/hosthi_web_hosting_features.php I have ready some good reviews on this site... not sure though ???? Never heard of them... They appear to have all their servers in the USA though, which isn't great if your target market is in the UK or Europe. http://whois.domaintools.com/hosthi.co.uk Furthermore, their .co.uk domain is registered to a UK individual (not a sole-trader, not a limited company) and they've opted out of WHOIS, which is against the terms and conditions laid out by Nominet for a business website. Not exactly confidence inspiring - a legit busines should never need to opt-out of WHOIS or to hide their contact details at all. Then you've got the price. Unlimited everything for £1.69 per month. Whilst you can get a decent, basic hosting package for £15-£20 a year these days for a small website or email, I would never recommend using an "unlimited" hosting company - and certainly not for £1.69 a month!
June 26, 200917 yr http://www.hosthi.co.uk/hosthi_web_hosting_features.php I have ready some good reviews on this site... not sure though ???? I spotted advert for them on Google the other day! that's about it.
June 26, 200917 yr Yeah I found them through Google. The '.com' site is where I heard good reviews for, Basically I want to host one small business site One personal portfolio & room for expansion of up to about 6 sites in the next year. The third site will be my fathers business which is photography so you can expect lots of images and videos. But his hosting expires in about a year. I want individual, full control over sites, with individual web mail etc, for each site. (think its called Multi-domain?) Thats about it. The sites arent massive and hugely popular, I just need reliability and support too. My budget is about £50 a year
June 28, 200917 yr had been with www.4uhosting.co.uk and was pretty happy - have left some client's with them too. have however moved my own website over to hostmonster.com following a recommendation from a friend - the pricing, particularly considering you can have unlimited addon domains for 1 account is superb - service has also been great so far. only shame is they are not a british company as i would prefer to be hosting in the country.
June 30, 200917 yr Streamline.net - 1/10 As I think many of you know -- horrific host! I am with Streamline.net.. i have had problems with them in the past however id like to know what problems you have had. A couple of my issues listed below **I pay for the bulk user account that offers free .co.uk domains... which i pay 10 quid a year for including the bulk package.. the support team always blames the customer for its problems. **i went over due on paying my bill becasue they didnt inform me it was due so they deleted a MySQL database containing content for a massive model website that we were making money from. (although i should of backed the database up) **Their security is weak. **they charge the higher paying users for things the cheaper paying users get for free. you try and upload a file via ftp thats larger than 30mb and they disconect you... even with unlimted webspace.... did you have these problems.... am i doing something wrong... for a company which claims they host 150 000 websites surley i must be doing something wrong? Look forward to hearing from you
July 3, 200917 yr I have a reseller account with 34sp.com and a VPS with UKFast (dont want to keep all my eggs in one basket ) both companies are based in manchester which means they are local to me ( a must in my eyes) and each has their own merits but i would recommend either of them to everyone. 34sp are a great hosting company have been with them since 2004, have only ever had one serious problem and that was due to another customer using up all the memory on the server, apart from that not had any downtime other than the odd server restart in 5 years. (9/10) only been with UKFast for a couple of months but their reputation speaks for itself, ISPA best hosting provider winners the last 4 years running, being based in manchester I have met a few of the guys that work there and also been on a tour of the data-centre so have seen my server and met the guys that look after it for me. i'd have to give them a 9/10 too
July 3, 200917 yr I recently bought a reseller account with Clook on Bluedreamer's and Rob's recommendations earlier in the thread. So far, they have been great. All emails sent replied to within 3 minutes and sites are loading very quickly. 10/10!
July 3, 200917 yr did you have these problems.... am i doing something wrong... for a company which claims they host 150 000 websites surley i must be doing something wrong? Yes you see these big hosting companies claiming to host huge numbers of hosted sites. The numbers they quote are usually true enough but what they don't tell is their "churn rate", ie the volumes of dissatisfied customers who leave. Some companies have customers jumping ship in huge numbers all the time, but because of their aggressive marketing they still attract many new customers to replace them.

Look forward to hearing from you Well it sounds although you have had more damaging issues than me, my main gripe with them was relating to sites using PHP/MySQL; it would often and unpredictably return blank pages saying 'done' when requesting a page which accessed the database (even simple queries)...as I was new to PHP I thought it was something I was doing wrong, then I installed Wordpress and the same thing happened but even so they claimed it was my fault! Think its something to do with the shared databases, I asked to transfer to another server and they said they can't do that so I had to transfer form Linux to Windows and back to Linux again just to end up on a different server, it somewhat solved the issue, although the pages are still incredibly slow and, Wordpress especially, still returns blank pages! Also the customer support ticket system is a copy and paste affair, where they don't actually read your email but often offer an irrelevant generic response of no use, as resellers of FastHosts I don’t think they have much control over the servers. I'd recommend anyone to use a host that uses cPanel, means you learn a more powerful and crucially more common interface! I agree, their cheap prices and coverage do attract the unaware -- as I was.
July 5, 200917 yr Dreamhosts - 9/10. only prob was not being able to install magento Peartree - 10/10. no problems at all, set up was super quick and done over the weekend.
July 5, 200917 yr Author Ha, suprised this is still going. I go AWOL for a month and it's still alive when I get back. Since starting this thread I've gone with Clook.. although I stillll haven't actually flicked the switch to make use of it. I've also signed a client up with PearTree. No complaints yet!
July 5, 200917 yr I am with streamline too... well on one site and then I stopped using them! They are truely awful and I agree about their customer service. Just copy and paste. Really annoyed with them....
July 28, 200917 yr Clook – 9/10 I've used many hosts in the past but Clook has blown them all out the water. It's based in the UK (Docklands, London) and is **** fast for anyone who lives within this glorious country. For international users it's still damn quick as London home to the UK Internet backbone. What I love about Clook is the consistently stable uptime which has pretty much been 100% in over a year of being with them. The other reason I stay with and recommend them is the speed and transparency of the support team. Granted I've never had to contact support with a complaint (which is good) but for requests and general questions they respond extremely quickly and know what they're talking about. They also send out emails and announcements if there is going to be any potential issues with the service, even going as far as letting you know in advance anything happening to the exact server your site is on. So far the only reason they've done this was when there was a major power outage in Docklands and it was out so long their UPS ran out and ultimately there was the potential of their diesel powered generator malfunctioning as well. They sent an email out way ahead of time to let me know that there was a possibility of downtime but in the end the power came back on and they repaired the generator for if it ever happens again. They also have a great control panel for managing your account and bills. Pros Quick response-times Located in London at their own data-centre Transparent service – not afraid to admit problems/mistakes (everyone makes them) Automatic announcements of anything happening to your server Cons Honestly none so far I'm also with Clook and have to concur with Rob here. Top notch.
July 30, 200917 yr I'm also with Clook and have to concur with Rob here. Top notch. Located in London at their own data-centre Just to clarify, Clook use Gyron who are in LHC AFAIK, they don't have their own datacenter. Nonetheless they are very well respected.
