Is that what you want? The two images behind the header, one on the left and one on the right? Each sticks to its side if the window size changes.

I'm one of those guys at bournemouth uni, Rob also goes that I know..
 
As said above a move away from home is soo much better then somewhere near. Going to Bournemouth was the best decision I have ever made. Learnt to live on my own, met some awesome people and learnt lots about what I want to do. I have only spent one year away so far, but I cannot wait to go back, it is soo different from school as well a lot of freedom! In fact even being back home for summer is getting too much, and thats only 3 months or so off.
 
Me and Rob both study Interactive Media Production. And I can honestly say its pretty amazing! Not only are you in beautiful bournemouth, with the beach and a pretty damn good nightlife. But the media facilities are top notch.
In fact, the media school(uni is split up into diff schools, which basically is just different buildings on the same campus) at Bournemouth is the only centre of excellence in media! Which just goes to proove how good it is! Just for this one course we have 3 labs with about 15-20 imacs in, all with decent software. The lecturers and tech-support guys (who come in very useful) really know what they are on about.
 
As far as content goes, its a course were people can start with no knowledge and can progress but where also people with knowledge can still learn some things.
 
For example, I didn't really know much about web-coding before such as xhtml, css, php but soon learnt this all and have got quite far with learning.
Good thing bout this course is there are no exams, which I think is great, but also right for a production course.
It's split up into 4 projects; Images, Narratives, Audiences and Summer Project
 
Images starts the course off with teaching photoshop stuff, creating photomanipulation etc. But you also need to construct a portfolio styled website to display these images on. So they also teach you xhtml and css.
 
Narratives uses video but also teaches php as well as improving on the knowledge learnt in the images section.
You have to create an interactive narrative, so most went on the idea of having video-sequences which at the end you could decide on a route to take the user through their story.
 
Audiences was mainly flash based, where you had to create an animation using flash. Learnt a lot of as3 through this. Again this had to displayed in web-format.
 
Then finally the summer project. This was a collobrative group project with 2 other courses (tv production and scriptwriting). This was a great project where I personally learnt a lot of php by doing. We had to create a website and some mobile content for a campaign that we wanted to raise awareness of, or that were intrested this was run by channel4's battlefront and we had a presentation day with people from channel4 coming to watch, give advice and ultimately praise us .
 
It's a farly well rounded course, teaching photoshop, xhtml, css, php, as3 etc. But it also allows you to go beyond that.. Outside of the uni I have learnt, jquery, wordpress how to use mysql etc. and the tech guys can help with mysql, jQuery etc..
 
As well as the production stuff, we learn theory such as typography, history of design, semiotics etc.. but it is mainly a production course.
 
Anyway thats my review on the first year.. and personally I cannot wait for the second year. From current second years we have found out that we get to make our own social-networking website, create games and stuff and it sounds fun
 
So far its been the time of my life

It's very well desky? Not a word but thats what it feels like. From the background I would say that you were maybe a teacher, writer or at least someone with a desk job, not an actor.
 
The website takes a long time to load because of all the images, maybe make it cleaner and sleeker.
 
Also on the site there is nothing to say that you are an actor. If you didn't mention it in this post the Television shows, theatre production etc could just be your favourite ones to watch, rather then those you have been in.

That's not entirely true as the web and media industry is sitting through the recession quite comfortably, if not actually benefiting from it. A junior web design role is about £7-10 an hour in the South and is a job that's pretty easy to come by, I've never had an unsuccessful interview for a junior position yet. One in London, and one in Dorset.

I really like the design. Can't find anything as of yet to criticise!
 
The only thing is maybe reduce the opacity or size of the shadow on the featured image box. Looks too dark to go with the theme.
 
Keep up the good work and ill certainly look at it again
 
I don't know if this is intended but have you got a subtle gradient on your background? - Has been known to be my montior (Samsung T220HD) - Problems!!! - If not then maybe incorporate because it looks good

I like the site but the one thing I felt it was lacking was depth. so maybe some drop shadows here and there just to make it jump out a little??

I think you can add dropshadows with CSS3 can't you???

It's looking good Chris. I like the grid layout and simplistic approach, you don't always have to go fancy and OTT. The rounded corner are nice because they are subtle yet give it a nice smooth feeling.
 
Some changes I'd suggest are making the margin between the navigation and the last line of your header ("a web designer and developer") a bit bigger so it looks visually apart from the header text. The other thing that stood out to me was the button on the contact form. The text is tiny and not centred which looks a little funny. I'd suggest making it look more like a button.
 
Apart from that you're going well mate, you'd be surprised how big a difference just a few tweaks can do. Keep at it

Well, it is a bit plain, which can be good.
And it is a bit boring too.
 
But it seems like you're going in the right direction, with a few tweaks here and there you can lift this site up.
 
I really, really like the colours you chose.
 
The line between Services and Contact is not in the middle of both.
 
I should add some patterns to the main div background. Instead of the just plain boring cream colour.
 
Also make all the contact boxes the same width and the Green Ticks under Services, i would make them smaller.

The white one is horrific.

I find holidays and a break from the computer a great way to get inspriation and ideas. Just enjoy yourself on holiday, don't think about work!

It's very.... blue? Maybe mix in a few more colours?
If its for quad biking or something maybe try out a few earthy colours? Like browns and greens?
 
As for the content area, maybe have a box saying "Welcome to .... specialising in.... " etc? then going on to the actual content?
